So, Bobby Hull wants to get a WHA league!? Wazzzuup?!!! Come on I mean I know he's got 1 confirmed league player switch...yeah...his FREAKIN' son!
He wants to eliminate the red line & wants to present a league that will show all the tremendous open ice stars play. He curses the NHL of the change from a wheel-n-deal High-Octane play.
Where will he get his players for so many roster? Which cities want to lose a few million?
I think its all *** backward!
Damn that golden age hockey mind!!

I take it you probably heard this on the Fan590/Primetime last night. I thought it was a pretty good interview. It sounds to me though that its just gonna be a league for old guys to finish there careers. One thing I do like though is that the fans will be paying the entire salary. If a team does bad and fans don't show up thats the players fault. Now we are gonna see guys like Todd Elik and Jim Paek come back from playing in the European leagues to play here. Basically its gonna have alot of NHL rejects. Guys who haven't been able to find there way on an NHL roster or who's skills are diminishing. Benoit Hogue and Alexandre Daigle are 2 guys I think would fit good in that league. I bet you'll even see some guys come out of retirement to play there. Like Rob Zettler,Kris King,Glenn Healy etc.

When you think about it, these cities are worthy:
Hamilton
Kansa City
New England>Maine?-Portland
Halifax
etc///

Also, the NHL is going on strike next year and who knows when it will be over. I expect some actual NHLers to convert during this time.

the point of the WHA is so they can start a pro league with a salary cap and every team will have a chance to get free agents and stuff....if the NHL doesnt do something about all the teams buying players now-a-days liek it is in baseball, im going to root for 2 things:
ill root for the penguins always
and ill root for the WHA

The league could be a good idea, Bobby Hull is no commisioner, but still. It looks like it's shaping up to be a sort of retirement league, which will draw fans to see former NHL, and now WHA greats. As Streetjammin' said, if the NHL and the NHLPA don't meet eye to eye over a new CBA next year, it would be a perfect time for the WHA to start up. UFA's like Paul Kariya (That's probably one reason he signed the contract he did, so he could choose where to play next year) could easily sign contracts with WHA teams.
I think the league is choosing cities all wrong, though. Apparently, there'a going to be teams in cities like Phoenix and Florida. These cities are hardly hockey markets anyway, and it's doubtful they can support any more teams, let alone from a lesser calibre league like the WHA is shapinguo to be. The league should get established in medium sized markets where the NHL is not, Chris Nilan gave some perfect examples. Also, cities where the NHL couldn't stick around, like Quebec City, Hartford, et al.
The emphasis should be on the WORLD in World Hockey Association, and they should adopt international rules. I think that is what they are doing, and it is a good idea. The NHL has already exhausted the hockey market in lots of places, so the WHA has a big job in trying to re-ignite the fans and offering a different product than the NHL. I don't think Bobby Hull is the man for the job, though.
