Oh well good pickup, just makes the first game back in Detroit that much more interesting. http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=47789&hubName=nhl radioheadfloyd 07-19-2003, 12:57 PM LOS ANGELES -- Sergei Fedorov signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on Saturday, leaving the Detroit Red Wings after 13 seasons and three NHL titles. Advertisement The deal has two years guaranteed, and the final three are at Fedorov's option, Mighty Ducks spokesman Alex Gilchrist said. The free-agent center had 36 goals and 47 assists for a team-leading 83 points last season with Detroit. Fedorov, 33, won the Hart Trophy as the NHL's MVP in 1994 and twice has been honored as the league's best defensive forward. On July 2, his agent, Pat Brisson, said Fedorov wouldn't return to Detroit next season. Asked Saturday about Fedorov, Red Wings spokesman John Hahn said: "That's Anaheim's comment to make, not ours." Fedorov has 400 goals and 554 assists in his NHL career -- all with Detroit. He helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in 1997, 1998 and 2002. A doormat most of their 10 years of existence, the Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Finals last season. That run began with a first-round sweep of the defending champion Red Wings -- just the second playoff series victory in Anaheim franchise history. The addition of Fedorov will make up for the loss of star forward Paul Kariya, who left to sign as a free agent with Colorado after he wasn't offered a qualifying contract. Anaheim also has signed former Tampa Bay star forward Vaclav Prospal, who had 22 goals and 57 assists last season. CaliforniaSoxfan 07-19-2003, 01:56 PM It won't be enough for the Ducks sadly. They need to get another star in Free agency to return to the stanley cup finals. studin 07-19-2003, 02:25 PM Ducks In-Federov and Prospal Out- Kariya, Thomas and Oates Seems like an alright trade off to me CaliforniaSoxfan 07-19-2003, 02:27 PM Federov is getting old though and kariya was pretty young still. Oates and Thomas don't hurt because I felt they were taking the roster spot from somebody who could produce more. Who is Prospal? dtownlions33 07-19-2003, 06:17 PM boo i'm gonna hate this hockey season wings lose federov and avs pick uo selanne and kariya and now federov is gettin quacked and all he is doin this for is the money! he doesn't care much bout anythin else den money great_one_55 07-20-2003, 03:18 AM i think the canucks should try to trade feDORK fedorov to Anaheim to play with his brother, fedor is way too lazy to be an nhl player black hawk 07-22-2003, 10:21 PM radioheadfloyed: forseburg shoots scores!! haha ur movie underneith ur movie is cool where did u get that? phantomkid21 07-24-2003, 01:04 AM the ducks will be better than last year since they also added prospal CaliforniaSoxfan 07-24-2003, 09:54 AM I hope you're right. I'd like to see a CA hockey team win the cup. phantomkid21 07-24-2003, 11:37 AM the ducks have a chance, the same chance the stars, avs, wings, canucks, and blues have so it will be hard phantomkid21 07-24-2003, 11:37 AM not to mention the defending cup champ devils are still in the league (even tho i hate em) the flyers are going to make a run for one to since they wont have any bad goals let up in the postseason great_one_55 07-29-2003, 12:18 PM the only teams that i think that have a chance to win the cup are: Ducks, Avs, Canucks, Devils, and Sens. I dont think the wings are going anywhere unless they get another good player, and the stars need bill guerin to produce. Streetjammin911 07-29-2003, 12:30 PM The Wings still need to move CuJo for someone (Lindros?) And reports suggest Ray Whitney has already signed. |
