View Full Version : Break Out Rookie BGray 03-03-2003, 06:24 PM Spring Training is among us! Who do you think is going to be this years breakout baseball rookie? :D BGray IggyWH 03-03-2003, 08:33 PM It's always fun to guess, but it hardly ever turns out to be someone you really expected. People always come out of the woodwork to surprise you. ETOPPSCARDGUY 03-03-2003, 09:21 PM Matsui although I hear he has a no personality. nyyanks 03-03-2003, 10:35 PM K-Rod on the Angels and Contreras on the Yanks no one knows how old they are but there still rookies!! lol The Vikes 03-03-2003, 11:11 PM Rookies are hard to find in Baseball especially when their rookie cards are 3 years prior to hitting the bigs. Being a Twins fan, they have a guy named Mike Cuddyer. He was called up late last year, and I think he's still eligible for ROY. He's a stud with a good bat. His rookie year is 1998. Bowman and Bowman Chrome. Gunnar13 03-04-2003, 01:07 AM If you ask me, I'd say "Godzilla" though I'm no Yankees fan. 03-04-2003, 06:47 AM no clue GOREDSX 03-04-2003, 11:55 AM Joe Crede still qualifies I believe...That kid is going to be something else....REAL NICE GUY TOO But then again I've got PLENTY of Rick Ankiel stuff I could sell 'ya !! CHEAP!! BGray 03-04-2003, 12:01 PM Welcome GOREDSX! If Joe Crede still qualifies as a rookie he is definitely a candidate. He started ripping the cover off that ball at the end of last season. It's hard for me to determine who the rookies are because they were a rookie to me 3 or 4 years ago when their first cards came out. :D BGray gioperation 03-04-2003, 12:57 PM I think to qualify they had to have played under either 15 or 25 games(idunno which) in one regular big league season. nashbuff 03-04-2003, 01:36 PM Bong for the Braves late in the season. BGray 03-04-2003, 01:41 PM Originally posted by nashbuff Bong for the Braves late in the season. I'm not that familiar with this guy. Gonna have to read up on him. Welcome in Nash! :D BGray nazca8 03-04-2003, 03:24 PM Joe Thurston, Dodger's 2B now that Grud shipped out to the Cubs. He's good, but I think a lot of ppl knows about it too, his RC goes for about $15-$25 on ebay now. jbman187 03-04-2003, 03:28 PM Hideki Maatsui.. this guy has many home runs and looks excellent and on a good team plunge 03-04-2003, 04:17 PM My bet is with Overbay, Reyes and Texieria BGray 03-04-2003, 04:19 PM Originally posted by plunge My bet is with Overbay, Reyes and Texieria Ooohh Texieria! I almost forgot about him! :D Welcome in Plunge! BGray plunge 03-04-2003, 04:20 PM Thanks! goirish48 03-04-2003, 07:06 PM I think Contreras and Matsui will have the best shot of being a break out rookie. cardcollector869 03-04-2003, 07:08 PM I think Matsui can be a break out rookie but I hope not as a Yankee Hater bassmaster 03-04-2003, 07:12 PM Crede does not have rookie status for this year and either does Josh Phelps but Phelps is the guy who is going to break out and be a household name by the end of the year. bassmaster 03-04-2003, 07:14 PM Kind of funny how Matsui hits a couple of Spring Training Taters off of a couple of minor league pitchers and everyone is jumping on the Bandwagon. Let's see how he does when the games count. Remember, Tuffy Rhoades hit 50 taters in Japan. jdfan123 03-04-2003, 07:56 PM Travis Hafner in cleveland mtduff4208 03-04-2003, 09:51 PM keep your eye on ricky asadorian...he got drafted first round out of high school by the red sox and was then traded. i saw him play and he had one of the best arms ive ever seen. hes a second year player already but watch out hes gonna be good BGray 03-04-2003, 10:22 PM Originally posted by mtduff4208 keep your eye on ricky asadorian...he got drafted first round out of high school by the red sox and was then traded. i saw him play and he had one of the best arms ive ever seen. hes a second year player already but watch out hes gonna be good I noticed his cards were priced at a premium right out of the gate. I'm looking forward to seeing Rick play. BGray tygercub12 03-05-2003, 02:54 AM Texieria... but hopefully Contreras will learn the ropes quickly, I thought I read that he gave up a grand slam to Adam Dunn in his first ST game. plunge 03-05-2003, 08:32 AM I'm cautious to choose Matsui because of all the New York hype. It's NY & Japanese Media vs. Godzilla. oxen 03-05-2003, 02:12 PM If Dusty lets him play, he could be the favorite for NL rookie of the year. andy maclax1212 03-05-2003, 08:32 PM i think Jose Matsui will bee this years break out rookie pitcher, and i think Matsui will be this years break out hitter thekingpin 03-06-2003, 12:21 PM keep an eye out for a break out year from Ty Wiggington on the Mets... but Texiera should take the spotlight for rookies this year gioperation 06-25-2003, 08:06 PM I am not sure but this might have been the first thread started @ SCF and look at some of the prediction, I think plunge and kingpin came the closest, now I wonder which rookie will have a stellar 2nd half... gio hairston1315 06-25-2003, 10:22 PM Reyes and Matsui in my mind have the best chances GwynnFan 06-25-2003, 10:34 PM Xavier Nady for NL rookie of the year. gioperation 06-25-2003, 10:50 PM Originally posted by GwynnFan Xavier Nady for NL rookie of the year. he is looking pretty good for the NL ROY, who else looks good? Arastis 06-26-2003, 12:36 AM Dontrelle Willis if he keeps it up Victory Sports 06-27-2003, 08:09 AM dontrelle pitched great last night, so did prior, but the cubs blew it for prior, 16 strikeouts! |
