I was reading this article about the latest Yankees trade and found this quote.

"The Padres are interested in star Japanese shortstop Kazuo Matsui and Oakland's Miguel Tejada, the reigning AL MVP, who's been told by the Athletics that they can't afford to offer him a multi-year contract after this season. Both are eligible for free agency after the season."

I never thought of the Padres as a team that could spend the money to get Tejada.

I think Tejada may come to the Yankees if Jeter doesn't have a good year.

Not likely to happen. Yankees aren't going to get anybody major like that for another couple of years.

Why not? Tejada is not getting the extension and George Steinbrenner probably will have a two strikes and you're out approach to Jeter if Tejada has a significantly better year than him.

There is no way George gives up Jeter. Not only is he a proven winner but he is so much more marketable than Miguel Tejada. How many girls will be walking around with Miguel Tejada T-shirts? LOL

The Yankees will not sign Tejada, and even if they did they wouldn't get rid of Jeter, they would just sign Tejada to prevent him from helping another team, and maybe try and put him at 3rd, but I highly doubt that, it will happen

The Yankees would never get rid of Jeter. When you think of New York you think of the Yankees and then of Jeter. Jeter is a great hitter and they don't need another big bat. Also it would be a shame to see someone as good as Tejada go to such a worthless team as the Padres.

Vlad won't go. He's too low-profile.

1. Even though Tejada may put up better numbers than Jeter. It's a fact that Jeter sells tickets. Just look around and see how many screaming girls are at the game. They would not be there if Jeter was not.

2. George is not angry at Jeter nor will he get rid of him. He just did that to motivate Jeter. He always wants his players and managers to be playing to there potential by threatening that they will be traded or released.
