I figured this will be better than a new thread every time me or my brother heads out for some graphing.

Today in Charlotte my brother did the Bulls at their hotel and got everyone on the team except Noah who didn't make the trip and James Johnson who for some reason didn't sign any of the 3 times he saw him.

Now for the real story.
As he was walking away from the hotel he saw a very tall person who he thought may have been Loul Deng walking towards him. As he got closer he tried to make out the person's face, but he had a hat on and was holding paper near his mouth. As he got closer he heard the man talking and instantly recognized his voice as that of MICHAEL JORDAN. So here's my brother 1 on 1 with the GOAT on a Charlotte sidewalk and luckily he had a blank basketball left over. He asked Jordan to sign and got denied. 1 on 1 on a sidewalk walking with him, Jordan told him he didn't have time and kept saying it was too cold. It doesn't surprise me because a few people I know have said they've seen MJ at restaurants and such and he has always denied their requests. Amazing to see Jordan walking around downtown, but I can't think of a tougher denial to swallow.

Man, that would be one of the greatest successes of all time if it happened.

Man, that would be one of the greatest successes of all time if it happened.

Yeah, that would have been awesome for him. I've gotten MJ before and it was just an awesome thing. The only bad thing is it really makes any autograph you get after it seem to not really matter. Getting MJ actually caused me to stop collecting for 4 years.

How did you get him and your brother fail, if he rejects everyone as you said. That is an awesome story and a little crappy on MJ's part. He's my all-time fave but he might lose stock there because to me to truly be an all-time great class act you have to be good to your fans.

Did you get MJ at a charity golf thing?

jyosi
01-13-2011, 10:17 AM
Yeah, I got Jordan at Mario Lemieux's golf tournament the last year it was open to the public. What I meant was that everyone I know who has ever run into him randomly has been denied.

gotcha- that's obviously the greatest success you're ever going to have probably, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to get in this hobby.

here's something I always wondered. I am not in this post criticizing your brother's technique I am more playing devil's advocate.

We know that some guys are less likely to sign for guys who give off the vibe of experienced collectors or "dealers." Do you think the fact that your brother had a ball and a sharpie on him gave this appearance? Do you think that if he walked up with just an index card and a pen (spur of the moment appearing) that he would have had better luck? It would look like it was a spur of the moment meeting in that case.

Either way I don't think he was getting MJ's auto, but I am just wondering if you guys agree that you have to minimize your "dealer" appearance when getting autos.

I don't think MJ was going to sign anything that day. I would say a scrap of paper does give you a better shot sometimes, but how are you going to sell a scrap of paper:winking0071:?

I wouldn't sell an M.J. auto I don't think, but if I did I'm sure you can frame it up with a picture or an SI cover or something. I have a few tickets and index cards framed up this way.

Did my first baseball of 2011 at the Twins complex yesterday. Not many players were there but I did get a few things.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka- sweet spot baseball
Nick Blackburn- team base
Kyle Gibson- team base
Brian Duensing- team base

jyosi
02-17-2011, 01:21 PM
Did the Red Sox this morning. Probably doing them every day until it gets too crowded then I'll move onto the Twins and Rays.

Jonathan Papelbon- Jersey number and sweet spot
Lars Anderson- card
Josh Reddick- card

Most of the young guys signed like Navarro, Tejada, Kalish and most of the young pitchers. Only other big names that signed today were Pedroia and Francona. Pedroia was signing just as I was getting there so I missed him and Francona did the opposite side of the aisle way.

jyosi
02-18-2011, 01:32 PM
Did the Twins (no one there besides pitchers and catchers) and then checked out the Red Sox for a little bit.

Joe Mauer- team base
Drew Butera- team base
Matt Capps- team base
Tsuyoshi Nishioka- bat

John Lester- jersey number

jyosi
02-20-2011, 07:16 PM
I keep doing the Red Sox because I don't want to miss the day that a bunch of guys sign, but I don't know if that day will ever come. Once Morneau gets to Twins camp I'll probably give up on the Sox and just do Twins.

Carl Crawford- jersey number
Terry Francona- 2004 WS ball
Jose Iglesias- card
Josh Reddick- card
Lars Anderson- card

Got Ron Gardenhire on my team base after a charity bowling thing tonight.

Here is a pic of the jersey numbers I have gotten signed so far.

Finally the Red Sox day I was waiting for. Now I can happily do the Twins without worrying about missing too much. I still want Pedroia, but I'd rather get Thome, Morneau and Mauer for sure than hope for a Pedroia.

Carl Crawford- jersey number
Daisuke Matsuzaka- jersey number and sweet spot
Adrian Gonzalez- jersey number and 2 side panel (wouldn't do ss even when I asked)
Jed Lowrie- jersey number
Dan Wheeler- jersey number but not in the picture because I don't have a 6 to pair with the 3 I got signed.

That's cool that you got Pedroia at Fenway. He signs, but he's tough to get with the crowds and everything going on.

Did the Twins yesterday.
Justin Morneau- team base
Scott Baker- team base
Carl Pavano- team base
Ben Revere- team base, sweet spot game used ball
Jason Kubel- team base
Matt Tolbert- team base
Kyle Gibson- 2 sweet spot game used balls

I was totally off my game. Should have gotten a lot more, but I was always a step behind. Missed Thome, Mauer, Valencia, Casilla.

Thanks. I get the numbers from stahls.com. They would be great for ttm. I use 8 inch numbers, but they have different sizes.

Jim Thome- team base
Joe Mauer- jersey for a guy who 50/50'd from another board
Pat Neshek- team baase
A couple others I forget on the team base. I was really focused on Thome and Mauer so I didn't get much today.

jyosi
03-17-2011, 05:48 PM
Did some minor league today. Showed up for about 10 minutes when they were finishing up.
Bryce Brentz 9 cards
Kolbrin Vitek 2 8x10 photos
Paul Molitor sweet spot romlb

jyosi
03-21-2011, 07:07 PM
Had good day at the Twins complex today. I had to get to class so I missed out on Molitor but I did get some good signatures.

Joe Nathan- team base
Jim Thome- jersey number
Justin Morneau- jersey number, bat

I wanted to get Thome on a bat, but he didn't switch markers for a person who asked and was running with a blue so I switched to a jersey number and then right before my number he switched markers to some guys really bad flowing silver. It doesn't look terrible to the point you can't see it, but way worse than what I would have wanted, just compare it to how well my Morneau came out.

Today's total waste of time balanced out yesterday's successes.

Red Sox Minor League
Lars Anderson- 1 card
Oscar Tejada- 1 card
Ryan Dent- 9 cards

Really only waited there at all because I wanted to get Jose Iglesias and he avoided everyone so I obviously didn't get him.

03-23-2011, 03:55 PM
Went to the twins minors to get molitor on a jersey number but got distracted by mlb guys in cage so I didn't get molitor and instaed got on my team base,
Danny valencia
Dennard span
Alexi casilla

Morneau was out, but I had to leave for class before he finished.

Also got miguel sano on a custom card and an 8x10

Thanks, I could have done better, but I really only try to get the stars.

I'll probably frame them with a photo. Jerseys cost too much.

This happened to my friend today, but I want to post it because it is so cool. We both know this guy in Cleveland who knows a lot of players and he told my friend he wanted to go to Pittsburgh (2 hour drive from Cleveland) to see Ivan Rodriguez since the Nationals were playing the Pirates. My friend drives this guy to Pittsburgh and they go to the Nat's hotel. They go inside and find and Pudge and the guy we know tells Pudge he has a 20"x30" canvas print he wants signed and they will give him a ride to the stadium. So my friend goes and gets his car from the street and pulls up to the hotel and GIVES PUDGE A RIDE TO PNC PARK. Before getting out of the car Pudge signed the guys Canvas and 7 baseballs. My friend got 4 of the balls. And these are pristine Pudge signatures, every letter. He doesn't normally sign this way in person.

First, I finally got to do some graphing for myself last weekend. Jim Thome was/maybe still is down here so I went out and got my 1995 American League Champs shirt signed. It is really cool to me because this is the authentic shirt the players got when they clinched the division that year. I was in like 4th grade in 1995 and had the shirt then and I bought this new one a few years ago. Starting that year and the next 3 or 4 years were such awesome parts of my childhood growing up in Northeast Ohio.

Joe Mauer 16x20. Kind of upset about the marker that some guy gave him to use. It didn't come out very well.

I need to change the title of this thread to "other people's in person experiences because of things I do for them."

I bought my brother a pair of Bobcats season tickets and he took full advantage of his first perk tonight in the form of a meet and greet with Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo.

Kemba Walker- 18 photos and a ball given to him by our ticket rep that was an incentive for buying tickets.
Bismack Biyombo- 10 photos, each is the same as the one pictured.

My brother does so much for me that anything I give him he will get back to me 10x. I'm also paying for him to fly to Akron for the golf tournament because I know he will get tons signed and I can't go.

A Bismack is definitely moveable. $15 delivered sound fair for the #7 pick?

He didn't go to the hall and stayed at the golf tournament every day Wednesday-Sunday. He did well though. Got a few Mickelson and a bunch of everyone else. He didn't get Tiger, but his friend did. Something crazy always happens to my brother right when Tiger is about to sign for him. Last year as Tiger was reaching for his hat a volunteer threw his arm out of the way. This year people were pushing behind him and as Tiger was reaching out the fence in front of him collapsed toward Tiger so he left.

I'll look it up over the weekend. Sorry, I didn't see you asked about the numbers until now.

I haven't posted anything lately, but my brother has still been getting a lot of Panthers. What he got today is too good not post. He somehow met a guy who cleans the lockerrooms at BOA Stadium and he worked out a trade with this guy for a football used in the Panthers' week 3 win (Cam's first NFL win). He got it signed today. This is such an awesome piece. Truly a one of a kind because of the game it is from.http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y189/jyosi3/0930111427.jpg

Haven't posted anything in a while. There have been the run of the mill Panthers and a few Newtons. Tonight I actually got to do some graphing. Urban Meyer's daughter is a freshman volleyball player at the school I am attending to get my masters and tonight was the athletics fundraiser. Urban Meyer was the keynote speaker, so I went out to try and get him after the event.

Thanks. I am an OSU fan, so it isn't that tough for me, but I know how awkward it would be for an SEC person to look at them.

Dang, Joe...I need one of those. Urban Meyer = The Man. Tressel getting fired could very well end up being a positive.

Nothing in person to report, but I am super stoked about an item I just purchased on ebay. After I saw JerseyInk was trying to sell his Randy Johnson autograph on here, I was inspired to search ebay for one (I have an in person one, but I want his nice sit down graph on an 8x10 or 11x14 from UDA or another copany, not JSA or PSA). Well after coming up empty on Johnson (nothing really listed) I decided to do a search for something I have really wanted to add to the collection. I typed in "Griffey UDA" and the exact item I wanted was ending in less than 1 minute at a price right where I wanted to pay. With no time to think I clicked the listing and typed in $345 as fast as I could and seconds later I won this bad boy for $305. I can't wait to get it in the mail and frame it up with my 2 reds jerseys.

Icing on the cake, seconds after paying I realized I got 10 extra ebay bucks for making a purchase over $250 today!

Got these items signed early in December at the Shark Shootout. The ball is one that Rickie used during the day and gave to me afterwards. I spent the evening making a shadow box display and cutting the mats.

That looks great...Fowler's orange is a step up from Tiger's red/black combo. Have you gone back to the Twins Spring Training again?

Haven't gone back and probably won't anymore. Maybe once or twice for minor leagues.

I finished painting my shadow box today. Here is how it looks on a wall.

Got really lucky this morning when I swung by the Twins complex. No one was out except for a few pitchers, Trevor Plouffe and Joe Mauer. I know a lot of people who get snubbed by Joe think his nice guy routine is all an act for cameras and he doesn't deserve the nicest guy in baseball title. I totally understand that because I have seen the days when he leads people on and then just jogs by. Today was the Mauer I like to have in my mind when I see him on TV or hear other people talk about him. After a quick round of BP and catching a bullpen he came over and signed for the 10 or so people who were there chatting with everyone the whole time. As he was coming over he said to me, "Getting that pen ready?" because I was shaking my paint marker and he smiled and took his time to sign my jersey. He was really personable and responded to everything anyone said to him. It was the Mauer who I wish everyone could see. Especially the Twins fans who don't get to encounter him without a huge crowd.

im jealous- I think I told you when I went up to bradenton to catch twins-pirates Mauer AND morneau didn't make the trip.

The other time I saw mauer he snubbed my girlfriend in a crowd of about 10 people. He signed for everyone else BUT her, and signed duplicates for some people.

I was on the Rays side getting crawford.

Oh well sweet addition. Sorry we couldn't meet up in florida. Maybe next year.
