View Full Version : what school do you think has the best all around sports program
99presspass 07-31-2003, 01:48 AM UGA is definatly in the top 5 but maybe not #1. maybe ucla or stanford, although ucla is pretty bad in the 2 major sports(football, basketball) where uga is good in those and the smaller sports so i guess uga has a valid argument to be #1. UGA tied the national record for most national championships in one season with 7 in 1997. i think weve won like 19 national championships the past 5 years and have still been able to mainttain a good basketball and football program unlike ucla or stanford. so i would say uga has the best all around program. another place where uga gets very little respect and other "name" programs get respect just because of their name.
IggyWH 07-31-2003, 01:53 AM It's easily Texas... think about it... I don't even have to explain it if you think about it.
tnthinning 07-31-2003, 03:00 AM Iggy hit it on the head UT
"Hook em Horns"
stkmtimo 07-31-2003, 12:39 PM Definitely Texas. Great basketball, baseball, football.
Tim
egghead44 07-31-2003, 12:56 PM texas has i think better progams in the bigger sports like football and bball..... uga has it more in the others although they still have the football team that brings them back up
john1170 07-31-2003, 01:00 PM Rutgers! They are consistantly bad in all 3 sports. :)

IggyWH 08-01-2003, 12:06 AM Well Football, Basketball, and Baseball are the major sports so they hold more weight than those other sports.
NO WAY is Georgia better than Texas in hoops. Texas is constantly a Top10 team year out. I would also say that Texas football program is a good bit better than Georgia's.
My buddy who runs track for Pitt told me Texas has a great track team. Texas finished second in Men's Swimming/Divings this year.
...and who gives a damn about these other so called sports.
tnthinning 08-01-2003, 03:18 PM haven't seen this years stats but if you look at last years sears directors cup - which determines this on a point system UT was second last year - stanford usually wins it based on the so called "other sports" georgia was in the top 10 as well
if you take sports fans care about and not sports that nobody watches unless you are family - then UT would beat out georgia almost every year
IggyWH 08-01-2003, 03:53 PM Hell, I never even knew there was such a damn thing... how uhhhh odd?
Anyways, Georgia was 15th.
hairston1315 08-02-2003, 10:56 AM Texas also I think has a better coaching staff for bball, baseball, and football.

...and who gives a damn about these other so called sports. did u watch this years uga- texas game in msg? we were beatin ya'll by 10 in the second half even though we were missing 2 of our biggest players! we would have beat ya'll by about 25 if we had those 2 guys. and in football, we would have put bout 50 on ya'll this year. i hope ya'll are good enough to play us in a good bowl this year so i can be proven right. like i said uga tied the record with 7!!! national championships in one year and i believe they have more national titles than any other school in the nation the past 5 years. uga almost always finishes in the top 5 in the sears cup and texas isn't so texas is no were near uga when it comes to all sports. but like you said no body( including me) gives a care about those other sports. but to me its like academics. i couldn't care less how good uga's academics are, but since there so good, i care. sorry to sound like a jerk, but thats just how i feel.

ruffryder1525 08-06-2003, 03:10 AM yea i agree. Texas Longhorns are da bomb

Jarrett75 08-13-2003, 02:02 AM Maryland :) National Champions, Orange and Peach bowl within the last two years, Texas played in the holiday bowl...what kind of bowl is that? Did Texas win the national title? Nope. Maryland is easily the best overall. Thanks :)

Thanks :) the Holiday bowl is a very good bowl. and i mean ALL, not 3, sports. some schools like Stanford have as many as 47 sports which is why they win the sears cup every year.
tnthinning 08-14-2003, 12:31 PM I think too many people here speak with emotion (being a student or fan) than with common sense or looking at the facts.
The thing is you can't really tell in a lot of sports because the teams don't play - i think UT v UGA would have been a heck of a game last year or this year for that matter in football and would love to see it - not because i am a UT fan but a football fan - I think both schools have solid teams
Funny you mention Maryland winning an national title - so did texas in baseball plus they play in 1 of the top conferences in football. Does ACC have a title game or do they just play the regular season?
Maryland is a quality school and a great athletic program but I don't hear about them on a national scale in anything other than Football or Basketball (granted i don't know a lot about their other teams)
Jarrett75 08-14-2003, 04:43 PM we just expanded for a title game, it was somewhat big news :) And yes Texas did win a national championship, but I would say easily a basketball title is 110% more valuable then a baseball. By the way Maryland has excellent, lacrosse (mens and womens), soccer (mens and womens), we have hit a lowpoint recently losing our womens basketball coach, but are up and coming once again. It's a question that really no one can answer, I would much rather have a school win the basketball title then a baseball title. Does CBS pay 1 billion dollars to broadcast the College World Series? nope but they do pay that for the NCAA baseketball tourney. It's all about perception. :)

Exactly it is all about perception - you percieve that a basketball title is more important - to some it may not be - if my school could win either title baseball or basketball i would take baseball any day because i am more of a baseball fan - i may be in the minority here but that is how i feel.
all i am saying here is most of the posts on this are biased to who you like/where you went to school so nobody is going to be right or wrong.
IggyWH 08-15-2003, 09:52 AM ACC expanded for nothing... you're not going to get the title game with 11 teams. They won't have their title game till after the new TV package which defeats the purpose of everything.
Jarrett75 08-15-2003, 03:26 PM yeah I admit once they talked about doing it they shouldn't have stopped till they got 12, now they have egg on their face but it was Duke, UNC and UVAs fault, they are to blame. We will get our 12th team sometime soon, but we look foolish now, they shouldn't have brought it up if everyone wasn't for it.
