I know this has probably been brouight up many times but Javy Lopez is having one hell of a year... I could say he is the best catcher in the league right now... I see it being a close MVP race between him and Puljos... what catcher had 30 hrs at this time of the season? And better yet he has a day off every 5 days because Maddox doesnt let him catch for him... I think thats amazing if he would catch for Maddux he could easily have 1-5 more hr's then has now... but who knows it will be very interting to see if the braves resign him and how this whole MLB season is going to end.... Lets make a list of the best players by pos

C: Javy
1b: Giambi
2b: Marcus Giles
SS: Arod
3B: Mike Lowell
Of: Chipper Jones (very consistent)
Of: Puljos
Of: Gary Sheffiled

SP: Russ ORtiz (having one hell of a year)
RP: John Smoltz

I know there are a lot of braves on this list but they do have a lot of great players

Soriano over Giles at second anyday.
Bonds over Chipper anyday.
Roy Halladay, Jason Schmidt, or Loaiza over Ortiz.

Varitek deserves some consideration even though Javy is having a monster year.

I would choose these players ahead of Lopez:

Barry Bonds
Pujols

Lopez is having a tremendous year; but I doubt he will get MVP

Why wouldn't Bonds threaten Pujols for MVP? Bonds has lead his team to a huge lead in the NL West while Pujols' team is in 2nd place in one of the weakest divisions in baseball.

Bonds has more HR's, more walks, more stolen bases. He has a better OBP OPS and SLG PCT. Not to mention he has done all of that in 15 fewer games than Pujols.

Lopez is having a tremendous year, but there are others out there that are more talented and worthy of business....Personally, I would take Posada over Lopez currently, but that's over a long term body of work.....even Pudge, although he hasn't brought the house down this year.

If we're talking about strictly based on performances this year, I'd go with:

C: Javy
1b: Helton
2b: Not sure, but won't be Giles
SS: Arod
3B: Mike Lowell
Of: Bonds
Of: Puljos
Of: Gary Sheffiled

SP: Prior or Schmidt
RP: Gagne
