ILLESTMOFO 03-03-2003, 11:34 PM I collect all ETOPPS and I love all sports!!!
radioheadfloyd 03-03-2003, 11:53 PM I started out with Baseball in the 80s and added the other sports as their cards became more popular. I would say that my favorite cards to collect are Basketball and Hockey, right now. But, I think baseball is overall the best to collect due to the fact that it is the most popular and has had many more years of collecting. IMO.
IggyWH 03-04-2003, 01:26 AM I collect all sports (that meaning baseball, football, basketball, and hockey... nothing else is a legitamate sport), but mostly stick to baseball and now I'm strictly eTopps.

Dodger Fan 03-05-2003, 11:46 AM I collect Baseball, Football, NASCAR, Basketball, and Hockey, in that order. I have collected baseball and football since 1975, starting when I was 10. I don't collect much basketball or hockey, mostly just collecting players from the teams I follow.

Beckett really pisses me off with their grading... I did get a Pristine Shawn Green rookie though, it's only worth $100 though, but it's nice to say I own a Pristine.
thegunzz 03-05-2003, 05:44 PM Correct me if I am wrong-Pristine BGS 10 as far as price guide is actually what someone would pay for it. It is way above Gem which all the price guides have. They have not listed Pristine for it is so rare and desirable. Still looking for one myself.
thekingpin 03-05-2003, 06:06 PM baseball for me, some basketball in the past... but now strictly baseball cards and memorabilia. I am big on BGS & PSA cards too
thekingpin 03-05-2003, 06:08 PM thegunzz... I'm a collector of BGS cards... not sure I follow your question though?
thegunzz 03-05-2003, 06:24 PM Not an expert in BGS grading but it is all I use and will not switch grading companies. I have not/never seen a Pristine, but have had a Gem (BGS 9.5 that is).
I have read though under the "Graded card Price Guide" around page 80 or so in Beckett mag and on-line the highest the grade goes as far as the listings are is Gem BGS 9.5. A Pristine BGS 10 under the narrative "are rarely seen" and to price one you would have to use some multiple (depending on the player, year, and type of card) above Gem but will not be in the listings.
You can also notice that PSA doesn't even have Pristine and SGC rating for Pristine is 100 (rarely seen also).
So basically if you have a BGS 10 - Pristine you can get whatever you want or what the buyer will pay for it is so rare.
I hope that is clearer (is this a word?) As I said not an expert, but you have a rarety in a Pristine and don't let it go to willingly.
thekingpin 03-05-2003, 06:31 PM I think you've got a decent understanding of it thegunzz. Pristine Gem 10's are extremely rare! BGS almost never gives them out unless the card is beyond perfect, which is almost impossible to acheive. I've seen PSA 10's around... and those go for many times the actual value. It's really market value on these, there's no set multiple. I don't really look at SGC... although they are the #3 in the industry for grading.
When I have cards graded, I also use BGS... PSA is too complicated, and expensive. BGS also has the thicker slabs, grading breakdown, and can be reasonably priced in bulk.
I've got a few 9.5's from BGS... but no 10's.

podstock 03-15-2003, 03:01 AM I collect baseball/basketball/football, but primarily have a large lot of baseball cards, primarily b/c football and basketball didn't "boom" until late 80s and then the 90s.
I also dabble in "Others" --- Garbage Pail Kids -- I have the entire collection, series 1 to 15, with series 2-15 in MINT condition. All 1500+ cards are place in soft sleeves, then in top load top covers.
all extras I sell on Ebay.
BGray 03-15-2003, 03:27 AM Garbage Pail Kids. :)
Man those were the days. As a kid you could give me some of those and a couple of muscle men figures and I'd be set for hours.
Good Times.

Just kidding with you but if you have any questions on the site. PM me. To do that you can click on 11chaos and a drop down menu will appear. Chose Private message(PM).
I collect football and football only.
johnfulks2 06-19-2006, 10:36 AM I started like most in the 80's with BB and stuck with it many years. I have sold my collection twice and always go back to collecting. Now I stick with pre 80's BB and FB, and I wouldn't say I collect the new stuff but I buy packs and boxes just to open. Unless it is Tim Couch. I love the Browns and he was a big part in the restart of them. As well as any new Browns card that I think looks nice. John
