Be it cash, debit, credit, or with an IOU, it's money we can't afford to waste sitting in a recession...

I am just baffled that we actually sent cash. Like literally big bundles of cash. I guess I was a bit misled in my assumption that when we give economic aide we don't literally load up a big boat full of cash and send it over.

What's more, who is the idiot that had the bright idea to send $10 billion in cash to a war torn, poverty stricken, corrupt, lawless country in the first place?

And how do you lose $6.6 billion in cash? Do you realize how big of a stack of $100 bills that is? It could probably fill a military cargo plane. You can't just misplace that!

EDIT: Oh! And did they send $100 bills? I ask because I live in America and it is nearly impossible to get anybody to take a $100 bill anymore. Where the heck do you break a $100 in Iraq??!!!

EDIT again: HOLY COW!! I just did the math on it. No way that money was "misplaced". $6.6 billion dollars weights 145,374 pounds or 72.68 tons. And that is assuming they sent $100 bills.

Did any of you actually read the article?? If you did, you really need to work on your comprehension skills. If you didn't, try reading it.

In short, 10 billion was sent in total, 6.6 billion was somehow unaccounted for until recently. ALL of it belonged to Iraq in the first place.

Can you add/delete whichever words are needed for this to make sense? I have no idea what you are saying, so I cannot answer it.

"much as $6.6 billion of the $10 billion the United States shipped to Iraq had disappeared"

That was America's money...that's EXACTLY what i got out of the article...so what did i get wrong and not read correctly?

Maybe you missed this comment?

"The cash had in part been drawn from Iraq's own international assets, accrued during the pre-war, UN-run Oil for Food program."

Granted the US may have contributed some of the money, but nowhere in the blog does it state the US gave Iraq the money. You are inferring the word "shipped" to mean "gave" and that isn't the case. I am guessing that the US took the lead from the UN in administering this money and that is why it was "shipped" from the US".

He is saying that the money (or at least some of it) was already Iraq's and for some reason we had it and just gave it back. He is taking issue with the assumption that it was U.S. dollars.

either way, you can't just "misplace" $6.6 billion dollars...

I think your point about the physical size of that much money is valid. I'm just guessing, but I would bet that there was a very large amount of "usable" funds (smaller than even 100 dollar bills) and the bulk was probably in some kind of cashable bonds.
