Just wanted to see comments on this.

i have never had a desire to wave, hang, display, etc. a rebel flag. However, I have long thought that for a lot of people it is more about southern pride than racism. I do however, understand that not all see it that way and understand why they see it the way they do.

Our high school rival was Robert E. Lee high school. The rebel flag did not appear anywhere in the school. But every year on game day, a truck full of mostly black football players would ride through our parking lot waving a rebel flag. Always found humor in that.

It's only a big deal or problem if people make it a problem. Now if people tried to hang KKK hoods that would be different...that flag was not suppose to stand for racism; ignorant people gave it that stereotype...

Wow I was shocked that it was a black guy putting the flag up. When I was a young child I grew up watching dukes of hazzard. Whenever I saw the confederate flag I would call it the dukes of hazzard flag. However when I got older I realized what it was all about. I don't think that the rebel flag is equal to the swatisca, however I wouldn't want it thrown up in my face either. Believe it or not I collected hot wheels cars on and off throughout my life and the ironic part is that one of the few hotwheels cars that I still have is the general lee with the confederate flag. Go figure??

Lol, I know I shouldn't ask because I'll get some stupid answer but I can't resist. How exactly is Herman Cain racist? You'd have a better argument saying Obama was, but Cain?:lie:

I'm just saying if ya'll can call this 19 year old kid for hanging up a flag that is very popular in sc racist why can't I call a bitter old man who already had a history of predjudice when dealing with muslims racist?

First off he was joking and you took the bait. Secondly, as previously stated, Muslims are not a race. And Lastly, if saying you wern't comfortable having a muslim in your cabinet is "racist", what would "typical white person" classify as?

I might be wrong, but I think he was being facetious.

Obviously not, but for some reason the term "racist" is always used by the left to categorize anti-Muslim or anti-gay people.

I am not criticizing veggie for it, when you hear it enough you begin regurgitating it yourself. Spend a little time reading liberal websites and you will see the term used very often to describe lots of people who are opposed to something that is not related to race.

I think the same thing! I loved dukes of hazzard and the general lee and loved the confederate flag because of that when I was little. I even remember have a shirt with the confederate flag on it when I was in elementary school and it was simply because of the show.

I'm sort of split on this as I think it really depends what the person's motive is in displaying the confederate flag. there is an aspect of southern pride as well as the connection to slavery. I'm really on the fence about it. It's not like a swastica or the SS emblem or KKK gear, but isn't it perfectly okay to display those if one wants? like I said, i'm uncertain about my stance on flying the flag, but I think a person has the right to do so if they want.
