For NL -- once again, the favorite has gotta be Bonds, unless he is hurt.

Sheesh, the dude has already hit 9 homers.

For AL -- not sure.

Here's a darkhorse MVP --- how about Griffey, he's finally healthy, so far. Lots of trade talk. And his career has been spiraling.

NL - Bond's cards will rise from another great season!!!

AL - Could be ARod but I'm going with Giambi, either way their cards will benefit from another great year on the field. I'm rooting for Giambi but I'd be pleased with his teammate Soriano winning instead!!!!!!!

AL MVP Hunter
NL MVP Sosa

as they lead both of their teams to The World Series

bonds will be hard to build on what he has already dones they went to the world series last year
Arod can build if he leads his team to the playoff
Sosa if he leads his team to the Playoffs will be a lock

and my man torii "kedar" hunter as he leads his team to the playoffs and WS to win it all and has at least a 30-30 year and hits over .300 and over 120 rbi's

watch out for this guy and their team they had a taste and are hungry for more.

Sometimes I get annoyed by making these kinds of predictions. The MVP award goes to whoever is leading in the divisions. I won't be Sosa if the team sucks. Same for Pujols. Depending on how the teams do, I could pick at least five players for each division. So to cut to the chase, I'll be a little different and pick the players I think have an MVP chance if their team is successful:

NL - Thome
AL - Ordonez

plunge, yep. sometimes I am annoyed as well.

For instance, last year A. Rod has a fantastic season, from a statistical standpoint, but the Rangers were basically eliminated in July.

When you have that type of situation, there is no doubt a player on a last place team should NEVER get the MVP.

That said, didn't Andre Dawson win the MVP in the 1980s while Cubs were in last place?

dawson did when that award and they did finish in the cellar and sosa won the year he and big mac had the HR fight, right.

the MVP mean most valuable to a team, which to me means which player had the biggest impact for his team success, how many game would the cubs had won w/o dawson or sosa in those years. I believe in Arod case last year that he didn't improve the team, with that lineup you could have inserted anyone and they still would have won the same amount of games. IMO

NL: Bonds-unless someone shows that he can be a better hitter, I'm picking Bonds

AL: Giambi-I won't pick AROD because the Rangers probably won't win much

I agree about Dawson but what if a player gets the triple crown on a last place team? This'll challenge the qualification for MVP.

My predictions will be:

AL Jason Giambi or Manny Ramirez
NL Albert Pujols or Barry Bonds

plunge --- hmmm, very good point. I would agree that a player who is challenging for the triple crown, or batting .400, or hitting 75 homers ---- these types of stats certainly merit consideration for MVP.

Not sure how close A. Rod was to challenging for the triple crown. But the Rangers were so bad, and so far out of the race, that A. Rod really didn't have any pressure. Once July hit, no one cared about the Rangers.

I'll go with:

AL Jason Giambi
NL Jeff Bagwell

I think that Arod will have better stats but he won't get votes because his team will be in last place.

I don't see Bonds winning it because the loss of Jeff Kent and Dusty will hurt the team but not Bonds. Bonds will put up good numbers but like Arod but I don't like the Giants chaces of finishing that high. I think that the Diamondbacks and Dodgers will finish ahead of them.

pwaldo..you know what's scary?

Bonds has hit 9 homers in pre-season already!

I've always hated Bonds (b/c I am a Dodgers/Angels fan), but these past 3 years, I've come to admire his prowess.

He's a jackass as a human being; but man, can he hit that baseball.

Course, it doesn't hurt to be taking steroids (or whatever substance they want to call it in disguise).

lol

same for McGwire and Sosa.

I know he hit 9 homers but they were in pre season. Pitchers actually pitched to him because the games meant nothing.

I don't see how anyone would pitch to him with Alfonzo protecting him. Just walk Bonds because nobody else on the team is going to do the damage he can do.

We'll how many walks Bonds gets. Can't just walk Bonds for no reason, b/c that'll lead to runs by the Giants, esp. if Bonds is leading off an inning.

Would like to see Bonds get more official at-bats.

Well it is early in the season and you can't base much off of that but Bonds is struggling.

He only has 1 HR and a few hits.

But on the bright side the Giants are playing very well.

Looks like the loss of Kent may effect Bonds more than many people thought.

Maybe. Or the scouting of other teams have improved.

Actually I just checked Bonds' stats and they aren't as bad as I thought. I only saw what he did the first couple of games. He must have picked up the pace in the past few games.

Still a great player but I don't think he will be hitting 70 HRS anymore.

I've seen Bonds get intentionally walked with the bases loaded, intenetionally walked in the first inning, intentionally walked with a 6 run lead in the 5th inning, walked to lead off the 9th inning in a tied game.....

By the way, Bonds is probably the only guy who can hit .300 with 5 homeruns in the first 13 games, slugg over .700, have an onbase % of .500 and still be "struggling."

Bonds has been so good that the bar is almost set at ridiculously high levels.

He just might be able to get his 661st homer this year; which his godfather Willie Mays is betting against.

for Bonds and Sosa, these last few years have been absolutely astounding.

And who'd thought, with Dusty and Jeff Kent leaving, that the Giants would be on this roll they're having?

Good choices, King. Soriano seems unstoppable but let's see if he and Edmonds can continue. I'd give them MVP for April.

The NL MVP will be Bonds...if the Cubbies make the playoffs, it'll be on the arms of Wood, Prior and Clement, and the brains of Dusty Baker. The AL may seem wide open, but I'd figure it'll be a Yankee...with Jeter out, someone has to carry the load. It won't be Matsui, so it leaves Soriano (.388 with 9 HRS), Giambi, or Bernie Williams. I think Bernie Williams, scratch that, I hope that Bernie Williams gets his first MVP, but I have a feeling it will be Soriano.

Damn guys, you really dug this post out of the dead. So bad that it was in the wrong forum when we added new forums back a while ago. Anyways, here are my picks :

Oswalt ~ He'll pitch his way into an MVP award
ARod ~ Who else is deserving... especially if the Rangers make the playoffs somehow
