this is my issue with the no-id thing. I suspect it is fairly common for people to have died in the last year and the voter registration not be up to date. I don't see that as fraud. But not having to show any id opens it up for fraud.
How can people be against someone having to show some kind of proof of who they are before they vote?

Most states charge a fee for a drivers liscence or state id. If you require voters to provide any doccumentation that they have to pay for in order to vote that is a poll tax which violates the 24th amendment.

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax. Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

i guess I don't see paying for an id to be a tax. I see a poll tax as paying for the right to vote.

I would be on board with free or discounted id's to anyone that needs them. I can't stand the amount of fraud (on either side) that is possible by the lack of id requirements.

In Indiana you can get an ID on election day free of charge and the BMV is open extended hours to make sure they are open from open to close of the polls
