The president took American exceptionalism to a whole new level Wednesday by suggesting that not only is the United States the greatest nation on earth, but every other country wants to be us.

"...[W]eve still got the best workers in the world. Weve got the best entrepreneurs in the world. Weve got the best scientists and researchers in the world, the best colleges, and the best universities in the world," he said at a campaign rally in Colorado. "Were still a young nation, and weve got the greatest diversity of talent and ingenuity, and people want to come here from every corner of the globe.

"So no matter what the naysayers tell us, no matter how dark the other side tries to make things look, the fact is there is not another country on earth that would not gladly trade places with the United States of America.

I'm not going to say anything about his patriotism. I expect that from a President/Prime Minister/King/whatever.

I will say there's no chance in the devil's backyard Canada would change places with the US, though. I imagine there are a few others as well. The statement was stupid, but the sentiment is necessary.

Would any country even admit it would want to be the United States?

I'll say I would like to steal your "USA" chant, but that's it.

I can think of a dozen countries that would NOT want to be the US. I understand why he is saying it but it is the biggest lie he has told to date.

No.....I think his biggest lie was the whole "Change" thing he so proudly proclaimed, and in the end we saw little to none of that "change".

Although I agree this is a VERY big lie and such a stupid thing to say.

LOL, I KNOW for sure that various countries would not in fact want to be the U.S.

Most of Europe
Canada
Japan
China

Just to name a few.....

Furthermore, I know that as an American I would sure love to change political climates.....especially Europe's blend of socialism and capitalism, it is much better (IMO) than our "Rich get super rich, poor get poorer" type of economy that we have.

yeah, europes economy and standard of living is so good? really?

and he did provide change, just not what we thought

Europe's problem was the Euro. Didn't someone in the US (I want to say Bush or Cheney, but I don't want anyone to think I'm "blaming them OHNOES!" for anything, just the timeline seems right in my head) want to creat a North American Dollar comparable to the Euro?

The U.S is the best place to live in the world......if you're super rich.

Europe has great infrastructure, great health care, a better educational system, lower crime, and they are happier than your average American.....and I'm the type of person that values happiness, health, education, and low crime.

If we have to pick specific countries, I would lean towards UK.

And of course if I'm being biased, Europe is much more liberal than the U.S and they are much less religious.

wickabee, i never heard that one, but it wouldn't surprise me.

alex, health care in europe is considered better for the general population, but they pay higher taxes than us, and the last time checked we did not have our hospitals literally falling apart. and when the euro crashes, good luck with the health care system and universal healthcare.
what education system is better are you talking about the fact that child poverty directly affects education and the us has a much larger child poverty rate. then i guess we should confront why the child poverty rate is so high.

checking the stats on violent crime per 100k people, the top 9 countries in europe all are worse than the usa.

and it seems the poor who are able to work have it better here, free money, food, and shelter.

the only issue i have as middle class is the taxes i pay and all the junk people want me to accept.

wickabee, i trained with two canadians and we worked in the same industry. one guys wife was a nurse, like my wife is, we talked money, and healthcare, didn't sound better to me. but that is just me, perhaps if he and i were lower income or rich we would have seen things differently. but they were my buddies in training and we had some good times, perhaps the only to canadians i ever hung out with. really, really great guys.

Canada has three syllables ca-na-da, or you could say in three syllables oh-can-ada. You don't really need our us chant

Wow I was reading through this thread and it is sounding looking like a YouTube comment section on politics and opinion and that someone always has to win. but we're better than that on a forum. Right

Do the USA chant.
Now do it with Ca-na-da.

See, it's just not the same.

U-S-A is a sick chant. Definitely one thing that other countries should be jealous of.

I'm not going to say our healthcare is perfect, far from it. There are some aspects of privatization that would probably be better than what we have. The upside to Canada over the US is that someone who can't afford private medical insurance and has a job with no benefits who gets sick isn't necessarily going to be bankrupted by it.
No healthcare will ever be perfect, but I do like what we've got up here.

I actually laughed out loud at this....you'll see it get banned in the next 25 years as people deem it too "racist".

We're better than you at beer and rye, too. We also grow better pot than Mexico. Why your potheads smoke Mexican weed is beyond me, it's not like importing has ever been a problem in the drug trade.

You've got us beat in most of the entertainment industry. Not the actual actors and musicians, they're all from elsewhere, but your industry makes ours look like crap. No one in Canada cares if something won a Juno or Gemini. You probably don't even know what those are.

Agreed, but I personally believe it should only be used for sporting events.

So what does the U.S still do good?

SPORTS!

NO doubt about it, this is the ONLY thing I'm still proud of, we have great athletes and unlike Europe that is obsessed with kicking a stupid ball for almost 2 hours, we actually have a vast diversity of great fun sports which anyone can enjoy.

What else do we do good?

I guess we're still the entertainment capital of the world although it has diminished, but you can't deny the great TV shows like Breaking Bad, Dexter, Game of Thrones and past greats like the Sopranos.

90% of movies and music are crap but we still have that solid 10%.

And that's about it.

LOL, so basically the only thing we still do good are things that distract us from real life where things are currently going from bad to worse.

Actually, now that I think about it, it looks like a very real conspiracy...

The United States has better sports including trading cards, music and movies but most of out politicians and gov't as a whole are garbage.
