Two polls released Monday show a competitive race in North Carolina on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, which opens in Charlotte on Tuesday.An Elon University/Charlotte Observer poll finds Republican Mitt Romney leading President Obama by four points, 47 percent to 43 percent, while a Public Policy Polling (D) poll has the race tied at 48 percent.Obama defeated Sen. John McCain in the Tar Heel State by just over 14,000 votes in 2008 to become the first Democrat to win there since Jimmy Carter in 1976.Romney currently leads the president by 1.2 percentage points in the RCP...
