Alright everyone,

We have a new chat room that should serve very nicely. I've only tested it myself so please let me know if you have any issues getting in. I just put it in so I expect to have to make some tweaks.

Please allow about 20 seconds for the Application to load.

Thanks,

BGray

I know I'm aging myself here: BGray, how do you use the chat room? I've been avoiding them in general up until now.

huh? I didn't even know there was a chat room. How do we access it?

boy, talk about being left in the dark, lol

You use a chat room to chat in real time. Just click on the chat room link below this forum and you'll get in. I've only tried it with my user name so I'm not sure if you all log in automatically. This is what I'm trying to get some info on.

:)

It seems to have "disappeared". Can't find it for some reason. Where is it?

Tim,

CHAT ROOM is located in bright orange heading, right above the thread "THE CARDS"

here's the link:

http://www.sportscardforum.com/chat/

I was able to get in; didn't even have to log into the chatroom. Once you log into Sportscard forum, you're automatically logged into the chat room

Am chatting with the Big Moderator himself -- BGray

IRC applets give me all kinds of hell. I know it's worldirc server, but what's the name of the channel so I can just use mIRC to connect to it?

BGray

It's #sportscardforum

If you have a user name with irc already you might have problems.

Radio,
What does it say in the chat area? Do you get messages? If you get in you should be able to post.

For some reason, I always get error messages unless I can set my identity myself and with the applet software, you don't have that option.

Have you used irc before iggy? you might need to use that user name or log in with another pass.

Nope, the applet loads up in your browser.

Of course if you're familiar with an IRC client like mIRC, you can use that also.

Gio,

You might need to upgrade your version of java. Also it can take up to a minute to load correctly.

Perhaps we could set up a night, like Sundays at 9pm EST, where we could all met to chat stuff.

Been in the room a couple of times, but only seen BGray so far

The word "no" isn't in my vocab. Hell, you see how many times you say no when you go to a bar and a Molson rep is there and tells you that Molson Canadian is free.

First of all let me say that I am computer illiterate so maybe this is a stupid question, but every time I go to the chat room I am there all by myself and the screen says at the bottom left something about a private channel, it's almost like once I am there no one else is allowed in, does it say this to everyone else also or am I screwing something up here!!!Thanks in advance...

BGray

No it works Q. Normally a forum would need quite a few members than we have now to have a steady stream of people in the chat room. I added it for the future of the forum and so we can have trading chat nights. Also members can direct other members to the chat room to discuss a trade.

If you were to type something when everything loads up in the chat room it would show up on the screen.

Qball -- that's why Bgray has a poll on which night is best for the majority of us, so we can all join in and chat for a few minutes at least...on any topic

It tells me I need to register first.

BGray

Lew,

I have the chat set up to pull your name from the forum into the chat area. Yours might not work because of the periods in your username. I don't think it likes periods or spaces.

here is a link that you can get some messages to type in the chat area to register.

http://www.worldirc.org/serv-nick.php

You will probably need to type the code below in the chat area with your info and hit enter to register:

/msg NS@service2.worldirc.org REGISTER <account> <password>

type the username and password in the respective areas and you don't need to use the <> tags.

I hope most users get all this fixed up really soon so they can get into the chat room.

I don't understand all these problems.

I have this web site --- sportscardforum.com ----- bookmarked.

I haven't yet had to sign in since the very first time I signed up for the forum.

And all I have to do is click on "chat room" to get in to the chat room.

I don't understand why others are having problems?

Can't they just log into sportscardforum with their user name and ID, then bookmark the site? That way, they no longer need to sign in every time they open the site.

Just wondering.

BGray
04-06-2003, 06:54 PM
Well if your not signed in Pod you will come up as unregistered in the chat room.

I think the problems people are having is that either the java application they have on their computer isn't current or their user name has a period in it. In these cases the user will need to upgrade their java client with the link Iggy provided earlier in this thread or register a name using the info I provided a couple of threads earlier.

BGray

oh, I see.

Well, I use AOL, and I suppose the $24.95 that I am paying is put to some use, since I am fortunate not to have to figure out how to get download more Java Programs to get access to the chat room.

Hope more people vote on which night we're all likely to meet for a few minutes chat.

Perhaps, BGray, you can post this message on every thread to get the word out?. I am not sure if everyone visits every particular thread?

let's get some chat going on in the chat room.

podstock

GIoperation...lol; that's why BGray did his poll on which night is best for the majority of folks here.

Otherwise, it's a mishmash of folks coming and leaving the chatroom at all hours of the day.

Pretty soon, if there's not enough of an audience, so to speak, folks no longer click on the chat room.

Sheesh, we have only got 13 people who've voted so far.

If BGray/Iggy/Radiohead or other moderators are reading this, perhaps the poll question should be placed in every single category, so everyone sees the poll question.

Welp I have tried to join ya'll in the chat room but it is a no go. I am not sure why either. hehe. I am currently using wmconnect for my internet access and am running on windows 98. Ummmm I tried to goto the following website:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

But the page keeps closing itself.

Here is what it says on the chat page:

I tried to copy the chat page over exactly as I saw it. Not sure if everyone sees the same thing or not. I had typed in the /MOTD but nothing happened. I tried clicking on the #& since it looked like a link but nothing happened. I had also tried to click on the Channels button at the top and nothing happened. hehe. But hopefully sooner or later I will be in there chating with everyone. Until then take care. :)

I get in sometimes without having to do anything and sometimes I don't. I did notice that when I get in. I type in the empty bar at the bottom and then I have to press enter to get my message to come up. My screen name never shows up on my board and everyone else's does. I don't know if that is normal or not. I'm just trying to help others with this info!

jpsmiley
04-22-2003, 08:24 PM
I also figured out for those who want to know. When you get in and it finds your name. Your status light will be green. Then look up in the left hand corner and it will say Enter nick. Your name will follow that. Hit enter and then your name appears on the right hand side. This means you are ready to chat. Your status light at the bottom will be black and the sportscardforum light will be green. Hope that helps someone out! It was very confusing to me at first because I had never been in a chat room before!

Heyas BGray. Don't stress about it. Everything here is going great. With every website and such there will always be some sort of bug whether if it is on one end or the other. I am sure the ones (including myself) that are not able to get into the chat room yet will sooner or later. All I can say is keep up the great job that you are doing and things will work itself out. :)
