William F. Greenwood (1857 May 2, 1902) was an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) Major League Baseball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball) player who played the majority of his career as a second baseman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_baseman) for a total of six seasons from 1882 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1882_in_baseball) to 1890 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1890_in_baseball).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Greenwood#cite_note-reference-0) He was a left-handed infielder, not entirely uncommon in the 19th century, he is the all-time leader in games played at second base by a left-hander with 538.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Greenwood#cite_note-recondite-1) He also played 30 games at shortstop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shortstop)
For the 1883 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1883_in_baseball) season, he signed and was playing for the Merrits of Camden, New Jersey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camden,_New_Jersey), when Charlie Byrne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Byrne_(baseball)) of a fellow league team, the Brooklyn Grays (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Dodgers) bought his contract, along with other Merrits Sam Kimber (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Kimber), Charlie Householder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Householder), Frank Fennelly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Fennelly), and Jack Corcoran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Corcoran). He finished out the year and transitioned with the team over to the American Association (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Association_(19th_century)), where they would be known as the Atlantics
