View Full Version : Player Collector's Post Your Best Collection Here
Bonderman FANatic 07-13-2006, 12:59 PM I'm really interested in seeing other people's player collections. I know how hard us player collector's work at trying to put together the tightest collection possible. Please post your favorite or best player collection including the following:
Players Name:
How many total cards do you have/How many cards produced in total:
Number of Game-Used/Autographs/1of1's/etc:
I'll kick it off with my Jeremy Bonderman Collection (see sig)
pgrossma 07-13-2006, 01:14 PM My Alan Trammell card web site is
http://www.trammellcards.com
Another good player collector site is http://www.gracecollector.com
http://canseconet.com (http://www.canseconet.com) features one of the most impressive hand-maintained player checklists I've ever seen, encompassing both card and non-card memorabilia.
Before discovering your collection, this (http://home.cogeco.ca/~smt3/index.html) was the best assembly of 1/1s of a single player I'd seen, followed by the similar site that it's linked to.
Those are the ones I've seen around. I'm sure there are others--I forget what juangonzalez.org is like.

SPORTSCARDKID 07-13-2006, 01:23 PM my sig. i know its not much but i started this year kinda as a side project. i believe i am getting a sweet spot auto next week
sivjosh 07-13-2006, 01:26 PM I'm currently cataloguing my Cunningham cards. I'll let you know when I finish that project.
pgrossma 07-13-2006, 01:32 PM Oh, I forgot to post my stats. Of course, asking me for Trammell card counts is always dangerous because I can never do it without observing that your card count is a function of what's on your checklist, and my checklist is not only hand-maintained but contains some idiosyncracies that are detailed on my web site.
For a short answer, though, I will refer to my "official list" (again, see web site), for the statistics below:
Total Cards: 875/1240 (includes 86/127 error/variations)
Total 1/1: 2/82
Autographs: 62/203 (this is an estimate thrown together with my checklist software based on card names, and may be slightly off).
Game-Used: 37/78 (another estimate, and includes 5/22 that are game-used/auto combos counted twice).

Peter that's a very impressive Trammell collection. Being from Michigan myself, I've always been a big fan of Alan. That mid to late 80's Tiger team was amazing.
pgrossma 07-13-2006, 01:54 PM Thanks. I realized that my game-used stats left out some card name categories, revised stats are:
Game-Used: 59/151 (7/46 overlap with auto count).

Hey G let me give you a few tips on eBay buying. When you come across something you're not sure about first check Beckett to see if it even exists. If it exists in Beckett then post the link here at SCF and get some others opinions. eBay is safe most of the time, but as you know there's always one bad apple that'll try and spoil the bunch.
aekdb535 07-13-2006, 02:23 PM My Frank Thomas collection consists of:
1241 out of 6303
70 different serially #'d cards
40 different GU
3 autos
various inserts
no 1/1s :( guess that is what I get for being cheap LOL :)
Also have a much smaller Andres Galarraga collection
cardguards.com 07-13-2006, 02:28 PM Here are the highlights of my Seau collection.
791 rookies
47 autos
87 GU
That's all I have that I know. I also know that I have over 20,000 commons and inserts.
darthtampon 07-13-2006, 05:52 PM Nolan Ryan (I just had to go for the guy who is ver near the top of card values) ;(
the list
http://john.vmspower.com/baseball/nrlist.htm
I would guess about
20 gu
1 certified auto
1 rookie
1 opc rookie PSA 7 (cornerstone of my collection) on the way.
I also have 3 psa 10 something or anothers and 1 bgs 9.5.
I would guess that i have about 900 out of the 7200+ in existance. Not sure how many 1/1's i will ever get since they always go for over $300 including press plates.

Indeed darth, your guy is definantly much harder to collect than my guy.
Bonds_25 07-13-2006, 09:51 PM Jason Schmidt:
Total - 276/928 (Giants cards only)
GU - 21
Auto/GU - 1
1/1 - 0
Not very impressive but I don't buy much. Most of that was acquired through trading.

That's an awesome collection being that it was all built through trading. WTG
Bonds_25 07-13-2006, 10:06 PM Thanks, hopefully when I get more funds I'll be able to make up for a lot of the holes (autos especially).
RyanTrader 07-17-2006, 05:34 PM Like darthtampon I also collect Ryan. I have a few over 600 of which well over 500 were acquired through trading several years ago.
In the last month or so I have taken to buying most of what I get because it has become increasingly difficult to trade for his cards. It could be because the cards I look for have mostly been stashed away in boxes and forgotten about because they are worth less than $5.00.
I feel the influx of GU, Autos and specialty cards have really hurt the trading market because collectors now disregard common trading as it was done 5-10 years ago. Looking at the forums 90% or more of all trades center around GU's and Autos. I have one GU in my collection and could care less if I ever get another.
plymouth rock 07-17-2006, 06:00 PM since its sort of new its not much yet:
Hoyt Wilhelm:
22 cards(1 incoming)/440 cards
2 GU(1 incoming)/0 Autos/0 1-of-1s
also 6 real cards total(1957,63,69,70,71,72).
all is in my bucket.

With today's mailday, I am now at 345/960, or 36%. Everything is now scanned except the name plate that was above his locker that I bought at yesterday's game. He autographed it, money went to the D-backs charity.
nevermore 07-17-2006, 08:13 PM Great thread with a lot of nice collections listed so far. Here is what I have:
Paul O'Neill, I have 400/1185 of the cards listed in Beckett. I just started collecting him last year and am still missing many of his newer releases from 2001-now. Altogether, I have 3 Autos and 3 GU.
In my Mariano Rivera collection I have 390 different cards out of about 1600. However, I haven't been collecting heavily for the last two years when the number of cards he had shot up from 900 to 1600. Upto the 2004, I have 35-40% of his releases. I have many inserts and numbered, 20 GU and 3 autos.
I just started my Tino Martinez collection so I have just 150/1029 of his Yankee cards. However, I have no autos or GU since there are only a handful of those out there.
CYmarlins 07-17-2006, 08:52 PM I agree also, been focusing mainly on my Miguel Cabrera collection, still waiting on some Autos to come through in the mail, but once I can get more scans up I will update my status on it.
Hallsgator 07-17-2006, 09:09 PM This isn't my biggest player collection, but it is my favorite!
My J.P. Arencibia collection:
http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h312/Hallsgator/Arencibia/
I also have about 12 Dirk Nowitzki G/U along with about 60 base/inserts. Also have a nice sized Ben Grieve collection.
Bonderman FANatic 07-17-2006, 09:55 PM Man I'm really impressed with some of these collections, this has become a very interesting thread to read
jasoneggert 07-18-2006, 01:40 PM I collect Jackie Robinson.
I started out in 1986 when I was in 7th grade, I traded a kid on the school bus a $6 football card for his 1953 Topps Jackie Robinson. I have been hooked ever since.
I have 150 different cards
44 different GU
Highlites include:
1948 Leaf
1949 Bowman
1952 Topps PSA 5
1953 Topps PSA 3 (my first Robinson card)
1953 Topps PSA 6
1954 Topps PSA 7
1955 Topps (came from Topps from a redemption card)
1956 Topps PSA 7
1955 Topps Button PSA 5
1973 Topps Test PSA 7

Always looking to add GU cards that I do not have or any older oddball items (Topps Hocus Focus, 55 Doubleheader etc,)
