I'm pretty sheltered at work but I was listening to CNBC and heard Carmelo Anothony decided to forgo college and enter the draft.

Anyone else hear this?

Who would you take if you had the first pick? James or Anthony?

I heard the same thing.

lol. Here's what Anthony said, in a nutshell:

"...I've won the championship; I've won the rookie of the year awards. Not trying to be selfish or anything like that...but what else is there for me to accomplish...?"

I'd take Lebron James, for the fan attraction he will bring, esp. with season ticket holders.

Both are unproven....and both could become busts.

Remember Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner?

Or Grant Hill?

It kills me whenever I hear people compare Lebron to Jordan. Hell, compare him to Kobe, first. lololol.

I agree with Podstock 100%

Yeah right, at least start with Kobe. :)

I'd take Lebron. He's already close to having an NBA body and I think his up side is that of a "special" player, not that Anthony couldn't be as well.

I think Carmelo will be a good NBA'er but I don't see him as anything special. Jaron Brown for Pitt handled Carmelo in both matchups and Brown is giving up 5 inches. He is making a smart move in leaving though and should be top 3 behind LeBron and that tall *** European dude.

Darko!! I just hope the Nuggets can get one of these guys and stop being the laughing stock of the NBA. Well, that probably will never happen. GO Rockets!

One advantage for Nuggets for next year -- no more juwan howard and that farking ridiculous $20M a year contract (or whatever the exact amount was).

Rumors are that he could be headed to L.A. for the mid level exception of $4.5M. He's a power forward, can handle Duncans/Rasheeds/Garnett, and has a reliable outside shot.

Lakers could use this guy right now!!

The Nugs are going to have a lot of cap room and are supposedly going after all the top free agents, I dont see them landing the top guys, but maybe get an Arenas.

Juwan wouldn't be a good fit in LA IMO because he's going to want to put up 15-20 shots a game and he just isn't going to get that in LA... the same reason why players like Rice, Jones, Cambell and Van Exel are no longer on the team.

I disagree, respectfully!! For a number of reasons:

First, Howard is into the waning years of his career. He has nothing on the upside any further. And he knows that. He's financially secure (100M+ multi year contract that finally concluded this year).

Now, the only thing left is a chance to be in play-offs and NBA Finals.

Howard knows he cannot get a contract anywhere near his $20M / year deal.

He has no choice but to shut up, play, and take his shots when he can get them. He can easily get 10 shots a game in our system.

Second, Eddie Jones was traded to clear cap room for the signing of Shaq, and Kobe's contract.

I do agree about Glenn Rice and Van Exel --- both needed lots of shots, and they weren't gonna get them in L.A.

I have heard some rumors about Karl Malone going to LA, you think that this could happen?

He won't though, that's the thing. He'll only cause more trouble... same with Malone... you think Malone (although every reason points to he should be happy with just 10 shots a game) would only be happy with 10 shots per game? HELL NO! It's all about self pride when you talk about these guys and they will never see themselves as a 10 shot per game player.

Malone will be trying to break the NBA's all time scoring record so I don't think he will be happy with 10 shots a game. So I'm with Iggy on this one.

Iggy, Malone may raise beef if he doesn't get his shots, but Juwan won't. Here's why:

1. He's accomplished what everyone wants --- making $100M+, and then some!!

Now, he's got nothing for leverage on his side. He's not going into the Hall of Fame, he's not much of a celebrity (other than that he plays NBA). And he's heading into retirement.

What's he going to do --- demand that he be paid $20M, as before?

He will fit fine into the Lakers system, b/c they provide him with something money cannot buy ---- the experience to go deep into the play-offs, to play in the Finals, and to win the championship.

This is why he will shut up and play.

I totally agree with you that pride is often the downfall of many athletes....but Juwan has no leverage at this point in time.

He's not young
He's not going to be the franchise player of a team.
He's not an elite player.
He's past his prime.

Why would he come to the Lakers, sign that midlevel cap exception for $4.5M and then start *****ing?

You see, it doesn't MAKE sense.

Juwan has gotten what we all dream of --- $100M+.

And he's nearing retirement.

Hey big guy... I have no arguement that it would make any sense for him to *****, I'm just saying he will. Juwan hasn't been one to keep quiet in his career so he's not going to start now just becase if he keeps his mouth shut he can win a championship.
