Just curious what you all think of the Mets this year... a lighter, faster Mo (I ate too much in 2002) Vaughn... Mr Professional & overpriced pitcher Tom Glavine... Ouch I hurt myself again Alomar... some of these guys really have good potential, but come on! I'm a big fan of the Mets, I go to at least a dozen games each year. However, so far in spring training, these guys are sucking wind! Piazza's got a load of rust on him from all those 10-10-220 commercials... and the above guys are struggling. Anyone think they can turn it around by opening day? I hope they can... already bought some tix...

The Mets amazed me at how much they sucked last year. All those players and nothing. I'd say they should fare better this year. Probably middle to close to the top of the NL pack.

Welcome into the family KingPin! :D
Now that your in, you can never get out! :guns:

Thanks BGray... just remember who the Kingpin in the family is... and all will be just fine... ;)

Last year's stupidity was both due to Valentine's inadequate coaching and the team's lack of motivation. Heckling Burnitz in RF was the regular pasttime during the games for most people down the 3rd base line. It was just pathetic. I agree, it'd be hard to do worse than last year... but then again, Baltimore just swept them and one of the games they had 15 runs scored on them! 15 runs!!!

im all for the mets too, but i dont think they will turn it aaround and be "AMAZING" this year... if thay get good hitting outfielders then maybe, but without hitting and pitching what is baseball, so i dont think they will do great this year but w/e.. i really hope they do

I am a HUGE METS fan and I really really hope and think they will be good this year. Although I will miss Bobby V., Art Howe will turn this club around. The only thing that concerns me is the MET's thrid and short situation. Wigginton did well last year in the few games he got but I don't know if he can produce like that all year.

C - Piazza
1st - Vaughn
2nd - Alomar
Short - Rookie (Reyes)
3rd - Ty Wiggington
OF - Jeromy Burnitz (maybe even SHINJO!)
OF - Roger Cedeno
OF - Cliff Floyd

Ace - Glavine
2nd - Leiter
3rd - Astacio (bad 2nd half, arm didn't hold)

I'm also glad they signed Cone, I wish they would've last year and out of the blue they signed him this year. Franco will be back. They signed Stanton. Another good looking year, hopefully not another dissapointment

They got Floyd, if Burnitz can produce like he did with the Brew Crew and Cedeno gets back his legs then they have a good outfield again.

So great to read this thread. I too am a BIG Mets fan and as most Mets fans, I am optimistic. What are the odds that Vaughn, Piazza, Alomar and Burnitz will have as bad of a season as they did last year?

The reign of Valentine is over, thank God. I couldn't stand the guy from the beginning. He gave the Mets a bad name in the media. Want me to prove this? How many articles have appeared in the NY Times or other NY papers that are negative towards the Mets vs. what's happening with the team from the Bronx? First Jeter, now Wells. These issues have been magnified and are just distractions (like all the cameras going off around Matsui like buzzing flies).

It wasn't long ago when the NY media focused on what the Mets were not doing, how they were screwing up off the field.

I think this is the beginning of the turnaround, ladies and gentlemen of the jury. It starts with Spring Training. No one's bickering over contracts, no one's saying anything controversial or anything that will step on anybody's toes in the clubhouse. This is how the foundation for a focused ballclub. And you can thank Art Howe for setting this tone.

I also think it's turnaround time when Don Baylor is bench coach. I was wowed when Art Howe came in but having Don Baylor with him gets me excited.

It'll be interesting to see how this season will unfold (barring injuries).

nyyanks... you don't belong here... clearly you're the only Yankee fan around... so take a hike ;-)

I'm happy with the management changes... but still a bit wary of what the team can do. Piazza still has way too much rust in spring training, and that's a big concern so far. I'd much rather see Shinjo in the outfield than Burnitz! I liked Shinjo as a player... and he's a hell of a fielder. As for 3B, Wiggy will do just fine. He's got a lot of heart, and he'll do the best job he can. With some good coaching, he should do really well.

I liked Shinjo a lot too. I was sad that they traded him away. Shinjo and Benny Agbyani were my two favs. I miss Benny A. (The hawaiian guy don't know how to spell his last name). He was one of my favs. from the 2000 W.S. team.

My fav was John Olerud and then I liked Alfonzo. I'm afraid to like a particular Met because it seems like they'll be traded soon afterwards.

I like the competition in spring training for the 5th spot in the pitching rotation and third base.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for Jose Reyes this coming weekend. He's slotted to play his first spring training games then.

Oh 5th spot should go to Cone no matter what. He pitched a PERFECT INNING!!! C'mon you got to love the guy! How can you not. Wiggy will be @ 3rd unless he's injured for sure I think.

Yanks make me sick. I used to be a fan but got pissed when they destroyed their farm system (Leedee etc..)

I too used to be a Yankees fan ... as a kid, before I knew about Steinbrenner. And he remains the first reason why I don't like them. Besides, I grew up and continue to live in Mets territory anyway.

Jeter, M. Rivera, Soriano, J. Rivera, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada I believe all came from their farm system. Not bad if you ask me!!!

Really? I didn't know that...hmm....my fault. I wasn't big into baseball back then I started watching 95-ish and didn't get into into it until like 97-98. Rivera looks like a good prospect but i don't know how much time he'll get.

the mets will never win with unmotivated and overpaid players like Mo Vaughn , Jeromy Burnitz and Armando Beneitez

swedishfish
03-08-2003, 06:26 PM
All i have to say is that the following players came out of the yankees farm system:
Derek Jeter Alfonso Soriano Nick Johnson Jorge Posada Bernie Williams Juan Rivera Andy Pettitte Mariano Rivera and im sure theres somebody else the only free agents they "outbid" the competitors on were: Hideki Matsui, Mike Mussina, Jose Contreras, Steve Karsay, and Jason Giambi. Thats it if i had a choice between the top group or the bottom group i take the top anyday

I don't know about unmotivated, Swedishfish, for Vaughn and Burnitz. If someone spends the off-season preparing for this upcoming season like Vaughn, I don't call that unmotivated. Nor Burnitz for his time and energy in improving his swing.

Vaughn took a lot of time to drop the pounds this past offseason.

The MEts will have a great year this year. Not only did they improve player wise. but last years players will step up. I am intrested to see how Reyes does this year.

I think we can expect Reyes to be in The Show by the All-Star break. Keep an eye on him in Triple A.
