View Full Version : Good places to buy boxes/cases?
thekingpin 03-05-2003, 06:22 PM I don't know if this is an appropriate question... but I'm looking for good places to purchase boxes and cases of cards, current/new.
Sure there's ebay, yahoo auctions, beckett marketplace, tradingcardsource, and many others... but I want to know about the best, least expensive. Who's got the best deals?
Better yet, do you know of any wholesalers? I'd love to get set up in a wholesale position, but that hasn't presented itself yet.
thanks

GOREDSX 03-06-2003, 08:32 AM I've used Naxcom.com a few times....
I've got some others on my machine at home (currently @ work) I'll post 'em tonight,
thekingpin 03-06-2003, 11:33 AM Naxcom looks interesting, but it's a pretty poorly designed website. I'll check that out more... thanks Goredsx. Any other suggestions?
thekingpin 03-10-2003, 11:28 PM bump...
Can anyone else contribute to this thread?
Thanks

john1170 03-11-2003, 11:32 AM I have heard that charmcitycards.com is a decent place. I have never bought from them but from reading threads on other message boards their name has come up a lot. Hope this helps.

thekingpin 03-12-2003, 01:22 PM Welcome Qball76... could you post some more info about that collecting club? What sort of pricing do you all get? I buy quite a bit, and am more than happy to preorder for the right prices.

Sure, what it is is a club with members in about 43 states that all order through the same person and we get boxes and cases a little cheaper...Now I don't know how cheap everyone else gets there boxes but this is the cheapest I have ever been able to find when it comes to pre release buying... Its definitely cheaper than card stores, ebay, or any other online ordering place I've seen. Take for instance when the 2003 Topps Heritage boxes came up for presell on ebay I purchased one box for $65 plus $5 for S&H and if I would of ordered additional boxes it would of only been an additional 50 cents per box to ship when everyone else was paying more...Usually you do have to purchase about a month in advance, Iv'e never tried to order cards that have already been out for a while and I don't think they keep any in stock, but they sell everything and so far I haven't seen anyone that is willing to match there price!!! It's a very nice person to deal with and so far I have never had any problems...But this is strictly for collectors only....If anyone is interested please email me and I will give you the web address to check out the price lists if you would like to order I will also give you the email address to do that...The reason I am not going to post it here is because I don't want just a mob of people bombarding this individual with emails, like I said the person is very courteous but we have had problems in the past with unprofessional people constantly harassing, and she stopped selling to anyone outside the club...It doesn't cost anything to join all you have to do is ask...Thanks
BGray 03-15-2003, 12:59 AM Sounds cool QBall! Thanks for mentioning it! :)

thekingpin 03-15-2003, 01:16 AM QBall... thanks for the info in PM... but the prices look right along standard retail. I'm looking for wholesale. Thanks much for the post though... I'll keep an eye on it to see if there are any deals.
Qball76 03-15-2003, 10:00 AM No problem, I figured they weren't genuine wholesal prices but they are the cheapest retail ones I have found...What do you have to do in order to get a wholesale position is there a minimum amount that you have to order? Do you need a tax id number, maybe we could get a collecting club going here at this site!!!
BGray 03-15-2003, 12:01 PM I checked into this a while back. You need to be a dealer and you had to prove you had a brick and mortar shop (I said it was a while back so I don't know if this is still the case).
Also, I believe dealers are only alloted a certain amount they can buy so it would be tough as they would want hot cards for themselves.
I think it would be cool though.
Are there any dealers that can verify what I have said here?

gioperation 03-15-2003, 01:25 PM I know I have talked to the guy who runs the hobby shop I got to and he is on direct with every big card company and he has his CC on file and they just allocate and send, but he uses a few different wholesalers when he sell out of what he got. I don't know if that is the only way I just know that is how he does it.
podstock 03-15-2003, 01:30 PM I love auctions -- and not just the online ones.
I mean the auctions held on weekends in the Los Angeles/ Orange County area.
I check the Sunday LA Times weekly, see if there's ANY type of auction that has sports memorabilia.
Now, here's the key.
You look for auctions that deal with office supplies, automobiles, etc. and a small blip ad that includes card collectibles --- this is where you get the best deal, b/c most go there pick up chairs/desks or autos.
If you go to an auction that is mostly sports memorabilia, then you have to go up against other dealers or card collectors, and you don't get as good a bargain.
thekingpin 03-16-2003, 02:45 AM I'm still hoping to find a good wholesale hookup... This hobby is getting very expensive, and any way to save some cash, or get more for my money would be great. I know I'm not alone in that sentiment... we all together here certainly represent a significant buying power. Maybe we could look into what it takes to do a .com wholesale agreement. I could easily handle running an online sports biz... provided I can sell on ebay too.
