Watching the NFL draft I'm a bit curious about how quickly the RBs will realize serious playing time and valid card values.
It wasn't a huge RB year but there were 2 drafted in the first round:
Willis MaGahee - Bills
Larry Johnson - KC
The problem I see with this is playing time.
I for one don't think it is going to be a Draft that we are going to realize the NFL potential of these guys for a while. Short of a major injury I really don't see MaGahee taking much time from Travis Henry or Johnson taking ANY playing time from Priest Holmes.
My guess is that this is going to be a year of the QB in relation to cards. WR cards are always fun to have but a the riskiest purchase for rookie cards as many of them never realize a consistantly high price.
What do you all think?

I agree that Magahee won't see any playing time until he's back to full speed from his surgery, and Johnson probably won't see much as well...Unfortunately as far as card prices go the best crop of players that were drafted IMO were defensive lineman and offensive lineman, but because of the blue collar positions that they play they won't see any major increases in value for a long time if at all...I do think the QB positions are solid but with the exception of Palmer I think they to will also take a while to develop....

I agree with you Q.
However, I would not be surprised at ALL to see Leftwich starting in Jacksonville by the end of the year. As solid as Brunell is he has been a bit of a disturbance the past couple of years amongst various players on the team with his overbearing Holy Roller personality.

Larry Johnson will be a backup at best at KC because of Priest Holmes dominating role. McGahee will get more playing time, because there is no serious role for RB in Buffalo. I hope both get at least a few games to show off how they can play.

well,
ESPN talked with the Bills GM, who's said that McGhahee most likely "redshirts" this year.
Which makes tremendous sense, b/c no matter how good a surgeon may be, you need at least 1 year of re-hab, free from physical contact, once you've torn your ACL, not to mention he also tore 2 other ligaments.
Although, however, most athletes get special medical care and come back fast. Rice hurt his ACL in 1st game of season, and came back in game 14 or 15, I think. That's a tremendous recovery.
Also, not sure how much Charles Rogers books for, but this is one talented kid --- speed, quickness, power, great hands. Even better athletic ability than Jerry Rice!!
Of course, one can also say the same thing about Moss, whose first 5-6 years in the leagues, has stats that are BETTER than Jerry Rice (primarily b/c Rice wasn't used much in his rookie year).
Now the question is: Randy "I play when I wanna play" Moss won't have the motivation, dedication, and passion that one needs to play for 12-13 more years in order to break Rice's records. Will Charles Rogers become the Next Jerry Rice, or the Next Randy Moss.
If I had Carson Palmer's cards, I'd start selling it quick.
I am from UCLA, and watch the UCLA vs USC rivalry football games with a passion!! And Palmer wasn't at all impressive, except for his senior season. We'll see just how good this guy is with the Bengals.
On a side note, I cannot believe my Niners got Dorsey!!! woooohooooooo!! That's one way to groom the next Joe Montana. Garcia only has a few more years left, perfect enough for Dorsey to learn the Niners West Coast offense, and then slide on in.

Dorsey is a lot better than the analysts make him out to be. He'll do great for the 49ers.

I know I'm going to buy up some rookie cards of Rogers... the kid is just UNREAL and anyone who didnt see him at MSU will be in for a huge shock.
