View Full Version : Question about a Value of a card (Favre)
mookigremlin 04-30-2003, 01:21 AM Heyas everyone. I hope yall are doing great. I myself am a bit confused about a certain item that I have. I am trying to come up with some sort of value and it is very difficult due to the nature of the item. As in the subject line you know it is something to do with good ol Favre. hehe. Welp the item in question is the following:
1995 Brett Favre Collector's Edge Printing Press Negative
Here is a link to be able to check out the scan:

Now some information to consider. The item itself is thinner then a regular card and is in great shape. I would go with the nm-mt status on it. Now since it is a negative I would say that there is a good chance that this is the only one for the card. Also with it being a negative it is not numbered. ie (1/1 or 1 of 1). The person I had recieved this from I have dealt with a few other times and I have been very pleased with all the items I have recieved from them. I had also recieved a 2000 Thomas Jones Collector's Edge Supreme Perfect 10 Blue Line Proof that was in the same condition as the Favre. I had traded that one away with a value of $50 on it. Now one thing I was thinking of with the Farve one is due to it being older and it of course being of Favre that I would like to recieve more then $50 for it but I don't know what to actually ask for. Any suggestions, comments, questions or whatever would be great. I am in no hurry to get rid of it but the person I am dealing with is a huge Favre collector so I am trying to figure something out for him. Thanks in advance for ANY information on this matter. Until then happy trading. :)

pwaldo 04-30-2003, 11:38 AM My advice would be to put that up on ebay.
If you got $50 for Thomas Jones you'll be able to get some serious cash for Brett.
Plus if you are lucky you might get 2 Favre collectors going back and forth bidding on the card which would make for a very interesting final total. Or nobody could want it and it ends without a bid.
I think the same bet though would be to try ebay with a reserve and maybe a look at the value of the card and at the same time maybe somebody will offer you something really good for the card.
podstock 04-30-2003, 11:30 PM wait until football season begins, then start selling your Favres.
Folks in general collect the sport of that is currently playing.
Of course, if you're buying, you look for cards of sports that are inactive (like football cards once the football season ends), as there are less bidders.
mookigremlin 04-30-2003, 11:39 PM Welp I will be trading it away instead of trying to sell it. The person I have been talking to about it suggested trading it at $100. That is more then what I thought he would say. Now depending on what I am looking to get from this person I may actually go as low as $80 on it since I will be looking at game used and auto's. I will let yall know how it turns out when it is done. Thanks for all the help on this matter. :)

mookigremlin 05-01-2003, 12:00 AM Welp consider it traded. hehe. Here is what I am getting for it:
Pennington, Chad--00 Fleer Tradition genuine coverage nastalgic jersey
Bruce, Isaac--02 Leaf Certified mirror red jersey 47/100
Bruce, Isaac--02 Fleer Showcase footballs best swatch
I was not sure if he would go with the trade of the cards above cause he also collects Pennington. But I sent the list of those three to him and it was good for him. I am sure I will get more use out of those 3 then the Favre. hehe. :)

podstock 05-02-2003, 02:55 AM that's an interesting trade. Pennington had a great year last year as a starter.
The Jets re-tooled this off-season...and Pennington's value is only going to go up. He's got a tremendous touch on his passes.
Not sure about Isaac
nice trade!!
maddmaxx714 05-02-2003, 03:13 AM dude you will be ripping your self off if you get rid of it for that cheap. i have seen some of these items go for well over 300 and considering the year the product and the player. heck i'll trade you a montana jersey for it.

That's why I told him to try ebay. If the card was a 1/1 those can go for crazy amounts.
But I don't know that much about those cards and he seemed to be happy about what he got in return so if he thought it was a good trade then it was a good trade.

Thank you pwaldo. As you said, if I am happy with the trade then it should be a good trade. I know there is alot of potential to get more for it and I hate to say this but everyone knows that Collector's Edge stuff tends to get over looked alot. Even something of this nature. I feal comfortable with the Pennington card and even with the Isaac Bruce. I know that Bruce is not hot but people do know him. And after I had gotten the 2 patch cards I have of him I had looked at him a little more. I am not going to start collecting him but I may pick up more of his cards.
Now with the Montana jersey. I personally would not have any interest in that. I am not saying that he was not a great player or that his cards don't do well. All I am saying is that I personally don't have any interest in him.
Now back eith the trade a sec. Another thing you have to look at is that I do like to help other people with there collections. I have dealt with this person a couple of times and I know he is a huge Favre collector. I was happy to be able to help him out in his search for a rare card. Could I have gotten more out of him? Prolly but I am not in it for that. He got what he wanted and I got what I wanted. Both of us are happy. And to be honest I got the Favre from E-Bay to begin with. And to my surprise and most likely to everyone elses, I only paid $9.99 for it. I know some of this info was not available before so I ask, does the trade look any better? hehe
Like I had said he was happy and I am happy with the trade. :)

In retro yes you can look at it like that. hehe. I could acutally say that the Pennington was the $9.99 (trade) and the 2 Bruce are free. hehe. Just glad that he is happy and I am happy with the trade. :)

mookigremlin 05-06-2003, 10:33 PM hehe. Thanks maddmaxx. I had recieved the cards a little while back and I am very impressed with how they look. The one that stood out the most to me was the:
Bruce, Isaac--02 Fleer Showcase footballs best swatch
The main reason I like it is cause it a piece of gold instead on the normal white or blue. After I had looked at all 3 of the cards I had descided that I was happy with the trade.
Thanks again for all the info and help. And until next question take care and always have a safe one. :)
