I was watch some highlights of the mariners/yankees game and ichiro made a good catch and they said he was the best OF in the AL.

I would have to say torrii hunter

If we're talking defense I'd have to go with Jim Edmonds.

Gioperation..I'd go with Hunter as well. Those home run saving catches he makes alone are TREMENDOUS!!

Not to mention his other spectacular plays. And who's going to forget him taking away a homer from Bonds in the All-Star game? That play alone sealed the deal as him being amongst the best center fielders for years to come.

And he's not too bad offensively either.

Edmonds was awesome!! He used to make incredible, mindboggling dives when he played with Angels.

You know I used to love watching the way Gary Pettis would chase balls down in CF for the Angels. The man couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag, but he could flat out fly. Great base stealer also.

Yep...Angels have had some tremendous center fielders. Remember Devon White?

Pettis, White, Edmonds, Erstad.

Not guys who are headed for the Hall of Fame, but man, have they made tremendous plays these past 2 decades!!!

edmonds is goo too I would have him in my top 5.

but hunter IMO is unreal out there he makes plays when he shouldn't even be able to get to the ball. and then he has a cannon, I was at a game in Chicago a couple years ago and he threw the ball from the warning track to home plate with no bounces and they got the runner, I think it was carlos lee.

Sorry gio....just had a flashback. LOL. I agree with Hunter in the AL. Ichiro is a great RF. He also has a cannon for an arm and can chase down anything hit that way. Hunter is just more spectacular in the way he plays CF.

yeah I know I remember willie magee going after balls in CF, he was awesome and quick as a deer.

I would say the best in the field is Andruw Jones

However, I feel the best all around player that plays the outfield position is Vladimir Guerrero.

I believe jones is a great one, but I pick hunter because he is younger and they are very close in skills and the fact the he really gives up his body by going up against that wall like it is a pillow, I was watch this week in baseball last year when he hosted it and said how he goes up against the wall before the game to see where the soft spots are so he knows where to jump against it.

you also can't forgot about cameron, he is a stud too.

Actually, Jones is younger. He just made it to the bigs at an earlier age. He just turned 26 and Torii will be 28 this year.

damn you are right I stand corrected but still torrii is my guy.

There are a lot of great OFers but no one has the speed and the arm of Ichiro. He may not look as spectacular but the results speak for themselves. When Cameron's healthy, there aren't a lot of balls that hit the ground in the outfield against the Mariners.

If you're talking on pure defensive skills... Jim Edmonds has passed his torch on to Torii Hunter.

I think Andruw Jones makes it look easy. He doesn't even look challenged in CF. You can't go wrong with him.
