I'm not so sure about him winning it this year because there was a TON of players that could have won it but I am going to say it was a good choice.

But I don't think he should have won it last year. I don't see why Jason Kidd was so overlooked.

Can't wait for Lakers versus Spurs series.

I'm not too sure Duncan should have won it. There were many other players I was looking at, and Jason Kidd was one, too. I don't know if I like the choice of Duncan.

The MVP award is pretty subjective, but I think the fact that they ended up with the best record in the league pushed him over the top. Personally I would have liked T-Mac or KG to win it.

T-Mac would have got my vote. The guy is ILL and has nothing else on his team. At least the likes of Gooden and others now step up and make plays every once and a while though.

Tim "I can't make a free throw down the stretch to save my life" Duncan?

You can say the same about KG though in that Laker series. He was horrible from the line when they needed points.

No way should Duncan have won it this year.

If anything, it's Kevin Garnett and what he did for the Timberwolves in helping them get into upper elite them.

Look at Duncan's roster and compare them to KG:

Who'd you rather have:

Tony Parker or Troy Hudson?

Malik Rose or Rasho Nestorovich

Manu Ginobili or Wally?

Bruce Bowen/Stephen Jackson or Anthony Peeler?

It's a no-brainer which roster you'd rather have -- the Spurs!!!!

But, I am glad Duncan won it. The award will be announced Sunday.

And Monday is game 1 of Spurs vs Lakers.

Kobe is now aroused!!!

He average 37.8 points last year vs the Spurs in the play-offs.

Let's get it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

That's who I thought it would have come down to. But I don't get to vote.

leftyshan: I wouldn't be making comments about other players not being able to make free thows when Shaq has proven he can never hit a free throw.

pwaldo...the difference b/t Shaq and Duncan is so vast that free throws are irrelevant.

First, in very close games, Phil doesn't let Shaq shoot the ball. As a matter of fact, it's almost always Kobe handling the ball.

Second...I can't remember the last time, in the past 2 post seasons, that anyone's tried Hack-a-Shaq. He's done respective enough, 60%.

Third, even with Shaq's deficiency in free throw shooting, are you telling me that you'd take Shaq over Duncan?

The only way anyone would ever take Duncan over Shaq is:

1. you're a Spurs fanatic who bleeds silver and black (or whatever their colors are)

2. if Duncan was heading into his prime at 27, and Shaq is 50 years old.

3. you're drunk and/or sniffing a bong.

No one in his/her right mind takes Duncan over Shaq, so the fact that Shaq misses free throws more regularly than Duncan is totally irrelevant.

Calm down there.

I didn't say anything about Shaq vs. Duncan etc.

All I said was I wouldn't be critizing Duncan for not being able to hit a critical free throw when Shaq cost the Lakers a few more titles because he couldn't shoot the free throws. Basically the only thing that can stop Shaq is not being able to shoot free throws.

Again, I respectfully disagree. Shaq hasn't cost the Lakers any titles.

Furthermore, while his horrid free throw shooting, he's a career 55%, did result in the Lakers losing a few ball games, they are so talented that the other players should've done better to compensate for that deficiency.

I think that, unless Shaq reverts to shooting 42% free throws, that he remains such an incredibly wonderful asset that you pick him #1 overall out of any player playing right now.

To spotlight Shaq and his free throw problems is like saying you wouldn't have dated Rebecca Romijn b/c she's got her 2nd right toe longer than her 2nd left toe.

Eh, how can you not say that Shaq not making free throws didn't cost them titles?

They were eliminated before from games in the playoffs because Shaq couldn't hit free throws.

Once Phil Jackson signed with the Lakers the first thing he did was try to get Shaq to practice free throws because he said it was costing them games.

If Shaq could hit free throws and was healthy I don't see how the Lakers could lose 1 game.

That is true, Shaq used to be under 50% free throws, and got it up to a career high 62%.

But, as long as he's making 50% of free throws, I am not worried as a Lakers fans.

HOWEVER, against the likes of Spurs and Kings, I'd definitely like to see Shaq make 60%+ free throws, b/c those teams definitely can score points.

Yeah I know.

Shaq worked real hard on his free throw shooting and it has been paying off for him.

Most guys would have said who cares and wouldn't have put in the work or effort but Shaq did. And it was well worth the effort. Before the way to stop the Lakers was to foul Shaq. But that is no more which has made the Lakers one of the most unstoppable teams ever.

auctually fouling shaq back in the hurt both teams as more people would foul out of the games and shaq never cost them the any titles, that whole team cause a lost of maybe one title, but hell every team loses a close one before the go on a run liek the bulls, who would you say cost the bulls titles playing against detroit before the bulls won it all, michael jordan, because he didn't know he had teammates.

The thing I'm thinking of was called "Hack a Shaq" or something. I'm pretty sure that the Jazz used that to eliminate the Lakers from the playoffs. No it didn't cost them a title but I was just pointing out that his foul shooting was a big concern for the team back then.
