View Full Version : Bob Ryan on Jason Kidd's Wife
stkmtimo 05-06-2003, 06:42 PM Bob Ryan, the venerable sportswriter for The Boston Globe recently said all Joumana Kidd (Jason's wife of the NJ Nets) wants is face time on TV. He said she brings her son T.J. so she can get on T.V. Ryan said: "I'd just like to smack her". Interesting comment, but don't think he should have made it, it was uncalled for. Anyone else have opinions? It was on SportsCenter just now.

leftyshan 05-06-2003, 06:44 PM I'd give her face time. She's fine as hell!!!
radioheadfloyd 05-06-2003, 06:49 PM He didn't actually mean he wanted to strike her, it's jsut an expression. He shouldn't have said it , but it's not like he is a woman beater.
RickNashcollector 05-06-2003, 07:36 PM that sounds like a stupid thing to have an article on anyways, no one cares about his wife gets t.v time or not, find a real report then write about it, this guy must not be a very good journalist
podstock 05-06-2003, 08:02 PM She is definitely one high maintenance female.
I saw her profiled on NBA stuff on NBC a year or so ago, when she was doing interviews of some athletes for a local TV show.
High maintenance gals are fine to play with.....but once they lose the look, you just chuck them out with garbage.
Sort of like the way Donald Trump did Ivana and Marla Maples. Fun to play with....when they outlast their usefulness, it's on to another high mainenance ******.
stkmtimo 05-06-2003, 09:39 PM Sorta agree with that, but not that extent, Phil. I don't know if you chuck them out with the garbage, but they "go out of style". I can understand Ryan's comment.

radioheadfloyd 05-06-2003, 09:40 PM Maybe, Bob Ryan meant to say that he wanted to smack that A$$?
stkmtimo 05-06-2003, 10:01 PM Bob Ryan is just jealous the Nets will crush the Celtics and go to the Championships. He loves Boston teams. Guess he won't be on Around the Horn for a month, he's banned from T.V.

podstock 05-06-2003, 10:38 PM I cannot believe that he got fined/suspended for a comment like that!
You got a guy like Lugo (borderline MLB player with the Astros) who slapped his wife, and pushed her face down on to the hood of his car, as alleged by his wife. And Lugo's still playing (I think Astros designated him back to the minors).
Hell, they should've suspended Lugo for the whole baseball season

it depends on what a good journalist consists, the last time I check, they are good if they can sell newspapers and that he did and if he wasn't known, he is now. Look at your boy jim rome
IggyWH 05-07-2003, 02:43 AM Everything (except maybe the smacking her part) was loved by the people of Boston... it was talking smack about a team who they're currently playing in the playoffs. Poor NJ people are too anal and had a hissy fit about it so then the Boston Globe backed down and fined/suppened Bob Ryan. He's one of the great sports reporters of todays time!
podstock 05-07-2003, 12:54 PM Finest sports reporter I have ever read was Jim Murray. Growing up in S. CA, I read his column in L.A. Times every day.
He was a pleasure to read; and boy, did he have a knack for words.
His columns were an absolute treasure!!

BS! People in NJ are great, it's just the Nets and Kidd's problem. The Boston Globe is 2nd best, NY Daily News Sports is better.

Personally, I thought that Newark was a really scary place...
stkmtimo 05-07-2003, 05:09 PM I'll give you that. I've been to Newark...not a nice place. Where I live, is great.

cardinalfan15 05-07-2003, 06:09 PM I don't know if you recall, but Jason Kidd got in trouble the last year he was with the Suns for beating his wife. He slapped her around a little bit. I think this may be why the comment was met with such criticism. They could have felt he was sympathizing with Kidd, saying he would smack her as well.
stkmtimo 05-08-2003, 09:06 AM Yeah, but those guys should get in a lot more trouble if they attack their wife, regardless if the wife drops the charges.
