View Full Version : Baseball Making Major Changes???
pwaldo 05-09-2003, 03:16 PM http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stark_jayson/1551057.html
You can read the whole thing above but I am also going to summarize it.
Baseball is looking into:
1. North America vs. The World in All Star game
2. Add 1 Wild Card per league
3. Make Wild Card Round 1 Game
4. Best Record gets home field throughout playoffs
5. Shorten season to 154
I really don't like some of these moves if they do them. :(
IggyWH 05-09-2003, 04:09 PM All of them seem to be a bassssssssackwords ploy at fixing attendance figures when the real way is with a salary cap and revenue sharing!

I agree. All of them just look like a quick fix to solve the problem of not having any fan interest.
But it is going to backfire as it is going to alienate baseball purists who are going to be turned off by it.
BGray 05-09-2003, 06:31 PM Hmmmmmmmmm. .....:(
I don't like em.

Qball76 05-09-2003, 06:39 PM Just out of curiosity, and this might be off the topic but I haven't been to a pro baseball game since I was like 14, what do the tickets run nowadays for a game, are they pretty high???
gioperation 05-09-2003, 07:13 PM $15 for the bleachers, I haven't paid for a ticket in 5 years, I only go when the tix are free, so I get in about 20-30 games a year

Woah, when do they have free tickets cause I wouldn't mind getting to see a few more games for free.
podstock 05-09-2003, 10:33 PM The best move MLB can do is get more teams into the play-offs, even if it means shortening the regular season.
let's face it, if your team is out of the hunt for the division title and/or the wildcard spot, you're not as interested as you would be if they had a shot for several wild card spots.
Look at the Angels. A few years ago, they wouldn't have even gotten into the play-offs with the record they had last year. But because baseball added one wildcard spot, it gave the Angels a chance.
We should let in 2 more teams in each NL and AL. That gives hopes to lots more teams and their fans. More importantly, that raises attendance and makes more money.
plunge 05-09-2003, 11:09 PM I don't mind these possible changes except shortening the season.
podstock 05-09-2003, 11:22 PM I don't see any problem with shortening the season by 8 games.
the more games in a season, the more stats players can run up.
that's part of the reason why there are a bunch of 500 homer guys.
It doesn't hurt to have diluted pitching.

thank God for interleague or it would be less...
Because I am very good friends with Latroy hawkins from the Twins, he always leaves me seats how ever many I need, when I uses to work at the casino it was sweet because I would take a couple of my bosses, and their kids they loved it and I could get any days off I needed, how about walking up to your boss and saying hey I need to get off the early today the game starts @ 6:05pm so I can't work til 7pm so I would leave around 4:30 and get paid til 7pm. I loved when they played the cubs because or the early game like the 1:05pm I would just get the day off. And the twins liked it too, because I would always get the casino to send a Limo to Comiskey to pick up about 7-8 of them and bring them back to the casino. You would think that it was no big deal to them, because they make millions and could buy a limo if they wanted it, but they loved it, like they had never rode in one before, at the end of the game when I would go in the clubhouse they would ask hey do you have room for me in the limo, I want to go. Once I had to take a couple of them in my car which was cool. Now here is the coolest part, they would tip me, usually like $50-100 person, so I made money as well, it was a win-win.
stkmtimo 05-10-2003, 12:13 AM North America would dominate the World in an All-Star game; hands down.

That's cool. I wish I knew somebody like that.
famod 05-21-2003, 06:00 PM As long as there is no strike in baseball, those changes don't bother me if they dont bother the players
IggyWH 05-21-2003, 09:01 PM Anyone hear of the new idea of during spring training have teams from each country with MLB players have a playoff for a championship? I think it's safe to say USA would win that one but could be interesting to see an all Japaniese team or all Cuban team play an all USA team.
RedMania 05-21-2003, 09:46 PM i like the world vs american all stars, the world would have the definite advantage now a days. look at this team
C pudge, posada, santiago
1B delgado, palmeiro, durazo
2B soriano, vidro, castillo
SS arod, tejada, renteria
3B batista, alfonzo, lowell
RF sosa, vladimir, magglio
CF andruw jones, ichrio (move him), abreu
LF pujols, juan gone, manny
SP pedro, vazquez, nomo, colon, odalis perez
RP mariano rivera, kaz sasaki, benitez, guardado, feliz rodriguez
thats what i could get and i tried to mix it, any guys you could add is fine, but the world team would be loaded. someone should do a USA team, compare them.
IggyWH 05-21-2003, 09:54 PM Although Arod is Rican, he was born in America so would someone like him be classified as a World All-Star?
