Sammy was placed on the 15 day disabled list today w/ a big toe problem, Troy O'leary is to take his spot.

That's bad news for Cubbie fans. As minor as a big toe injury sounds, we all know via Shaq that it's no walk in the park. You really need those suckers.

If you ask my grandfather he would (I don't need it) when I asked how he was going to walk when he had his toes on his right foot amputated. LOL and he walking like a champ...although not as good as he used to.

This is the first time he's been placed on the DL in 7 years.

I believe Sammy got the big toenail removed.

And will be on DL 15 days.

That sounds about right.

Most folks with their toe-nail removed (most common reason being chronic ingrown nails) need 2-4 weeks recovery, mostly to NOT be on their feet all day long, especially the first 10-14 days.

Sammy should recover well enough.

Shaq had a different problem -- his big toe joint was not as mobile as most folks; with such limited range of motion of the big toe, that results in him compensating by putting more pressure elsewhere on his foot and body, resulting in back pain, heel pain, etc.

15 DAYS DL? WHAT? hehe. If he was a real man he would take the pain just like the football players do. :)

Mookie, I agree. and if he were a hockey player, he'd be out playing the next day, lol.

Actually, when you think about it, Sosa should just grin and bear it.

In baseball, as a right fielder, you're not really doing much. It's not like being a pitcher or a catcher. Sosa should really only need 1 week off.

Be like a footballer? What are you talking about,

First , He played with that toe all season,

Second, How many players in the NFL ***** about injurys that dont mean anything? ALOT!

Are you going to tell me Warners finger was A true injury? "Oh but he needed that to throw"

Well Sammy needed that to ..... HMMM........, Walk, Run, Step at a pitch while batting ( and I dont mean to get hit)

Have any of you tried to to walk without hobbling a little w/o a nail, Or try to grab something with a nail missing on you finger?

BTY, Baseball does'nt have a 7 day dl.

JE...that's a good point about baseball no have 7-day DL.

Remember, athletes make millions of dollars a day. I have no sympathy for players with injuries.

Lots of us regular folks have injuries here and there while at work, during weekends doing recreational stuff. Yet, we still go to work.

But none of us have the chance to be financially secure.

Sosa could quit tomorrow, and he's got enough money to survive.

So, all I can say is Sosa should be out there playing his butt off.

He does, (even though it does'nt look like it so far this season)
