Even though I think 500 HRS is not what it use to be. You still can't deny him getting there. Good job Raffy.
IggyWH 05-11-2003, 10:10 PM Guess he'll be needing himself some Viagra 2nyte. What did you buy big guy?
podstock 05-11-2003, 11:44 PM well, unless Palmeiro's retiring soon, or drastically stops hitting, he's probably headed for at least 520 by season's end, if not more.
And assuming he plays 1-2 more years (still has a good stroke and batting average), that's 550+ homers.
Not to mention possibility of 3000 hits.
500 homers and 3000 hits will get Palmeiro into the Hall
Currently at 2,664 hits. If he collects 136 more by end of season, that's 2800.
Then 2 more years, and he'll be way over 3000 hits.
j.e.lew 05-12-2003, 02:50 AM congrads to him, ..... ex cubbie!!! DAMN!
podstock 05-12-2003, 02:53 AM and to think, the Cubs could've had 10-15 years with BOTH Palmeiro and Maddux
Then add Sammy, Woods, Prior
perhaps they might have had a chance to get into playoffs huh?
j.e.lew 05-12-2003, 03:10 AM Expos of the west!
gioperation 05-12-2003, 03:53 AM shut up lew LOL even though the cubbies are our team, I was going to start a thread with ex-cubbies. where would mark grace had played, raffy didn't like playing LF and sandberg didn't like him playing with his wife(so the reports say)
BGray 05-12-2003, 05:22 AM I'm sure Tom Hicks it pissed! I know he wanted to suck this thing for all it was worth for a couple more games!
Congrats to Raffy!
BGray
j.e.lew 05-12-2003, 05:25 AM gio, Are you from Gary?
I think I knew this but...?
gioperation 05-12-2003, 05:46 AM wait are you the police? je lew
plunge 05-12-2003, 01:04 PM Way to go Raffy! I think he may surpass Sosa this season. Incidentally, lmk if anyone's interested in his 1990 Upper Deck card. I just found it on Saturday when I was visiting mother.

If you were talking to me I got the 1997 Berkman Chrome RC.
podstock 05-12-2003, 09:04 PM oooh..now that's a good one.
As for me, I am awaiting a Jerry Rice 1986 Topps rookie.
You think BGray will ever put that one in the store, lolol.

Well Steve Young's RC is in there so there's a good shot that Rice's could eventually be put in.
podstock 05-12-2003, 09:33 PM pwaldo..ya! I saw that Young rookie card and was sooo tempted to get it.
But I can wait.
Lots of folks here are into current players and cards of 2000-2003
So, I am betting, right or wrong, that the Young won't be taken so fast.

Yeah watch as soon as you buy that Young RC BGray will put up a Rice RC. LOL
But you are right most people do collect current guys that is why you can find so many good deals on rookies and boxes from previous years.
stkmtimo 05-15-2003, 05:37 PM See the thing with Palmeiro is that 500 HRs don't automatically guarantee you a place in the Hall. He might not get in...
Tim
podstock 05-15-2003, 06:50 PM pwaldo..lolol. Bgray and Iggy and I was talking just about that issue the other day.
And BGray told me he wouldn't do that (i.e. wait for me to use points to grab the Steve Young, then instantly put Rice cards in the store).
Some dude here who just signed up has over 414 Rice cards. I do not know how many different Rice cards there are, but I don't even have half of that many different cards.

He will get in.
Right now he may not be a lock but by the time he retires he will.
podstock 05-16-2003, 04:23 PM Palmeiro is young enough, and with enough skills left, that if he plays 2 more average season, he'll get 150 hits each season, and get into 3,000 hits club.
500+ homers
3000 hits.
that's a Hall of Famer, lock stock and barrel.
Otherwise, you go into the Hall of Fame and start removing busts of everyone who wasn't a Yankee and didn't win World Series titles.
And that includes Ernie Banks
stkmtimo 05-17-2003, 12:37 AM No, but there's a difference. When you look at players today do you see a true "legend"? I don't see any, and I'm hesistant to put Barry Bonds in that class. Granted, we can speculate but it's not worth it. Back then, you saw a guy like Mickey Mantle and said: "Now there's a legend". That's the difference maker for getting into the Hall of Fame. That's why Palmeiro might not get in, I just don't consider him "great" or a "legend".
