Hello Everyone,

Just wondering.

If you pulled a Vick Autograph would you still be happy with it or would you be ticked?

Even if BV was over $100??

Input is appreciated.

Thank you,
Mike

Ok.

I don't know about anyone else, but I own a Vick Auto Jersey card BV-$120 and because he is accused of this stuff I am going to get screwed....:icon_roll

For anyone who owns a Michael Vick Autograph, are you mad right now?

I am....:new_uklia

What happens if he is found innocent of all charges? (I know it is a big IF because they are some serious charges). But what happens? Does he ever play in the NFL again? Would any company sponsor Vick again? Would he ever have another trading card made??

I sure am glad I never spent $1000+ on his SP Authentic RC Auto Patch....:icon_roll

Thank you,
Mike

The problem with athletes in general is this. Your on a public stage. You shouldn't even be associated with anyone who knows a guy who has a friend who's cousin is involved in dog fighting or drugs or shooting people. He did this all to himself and he deserves to lose all of his sponsor deals, regardless of the fact if he is innocent or not. If he is innocent, he'll play again for sure, but he'll never get back all of the sponsors. But from the looks of things, not only is he guilty, his representation is going to try and make this a racial issue, which it is not.

I never liked him or collected his cards. If I pulled one it never went near my PC.

Probably not these days. I have pulled them before and was happy.

If it was a nice card, I wouldn't be ticked. I've never been a Vick fan, but I really don't find this to be a big deal. But thanks to the good ol' blow-everything-so-far-out-of-proportion-it-isn't-even-recognizable media for making a big deal out of not-so-big a deal. So he knew about dog fighting going on at one of his properties, maybe fought some dogs himself, and possibly killed a few....Ray Lewis was up on DOUBLE MURDER and no one made this big of a deal out of it. If this was a lower tier NFL player, not to mention a common citizen, we wouldn't hear more than one or two things about it. So I don't really care...he shouldn't have done it, he should be punished APPROPRIATELY (which is unlikely that will happen either) if he is proven guilty, but I don't really think any less of him over this. After all, this is Ron Mexico who couldn't just throw away the water bottle...

I've got one of his UD 1st Ed cards...very nice card in my opinion. I'm selling it on eBay and I'm gonna try to get another one to keep. As for people like Stang that spent over $1,000 on one of his cards...yeah you're getting screwed and I feel for ya. I'll never have that problem cuz I can't see spending that much on any card (and don't have the money too even if I did :)). There's my two cents, I'll step down off the soapbox now :)

Naw I would be happy just to pull an auto right now and if it happened to be Vick I know a couple of members who would be more than happy to take it.

Stang- I wouldn't be happy if I pulled one now, six months ago I would have been happy, I hope he never gets into another new product, thats for sure, but he can still be pulled from older packs

Greenbeans- you nailed it

OnePimpTiger- "it's not a big deal"??? I can't belive you don't think less of him for this..... it is EXACTLY a big deal, I think less of him after this, and the finger at his fans, and the secret water bottle thing at the airport....... he's a thug, he hurt/fought/profited from animals pain and mistreatment, like he needed more money.....would you let him kick your dog and say "no big deal" ? ......fricken unreal

mike, sorry about this one man......i think you just might have to cut your losses with this vick card. i can only see it go down-hill from here, when/if he gets booted from the league and hes not in the spotlight anymore.

Wait, I did NOT buy his SP Authentic RC Auto Patch. I said I am glad I NEVER did buy it.

The card I have I paid probably about $40-$50 for, I planned to use it as my Major Mojo for my product.

I purchased it WAY before anything about Dog Fighting ever came out about him. I had 4 total rounds on hand and this was the 4th round Major Mojo.

So now I will have to try to sell or trade it so that I can get something else to use in it's place.

Trust me, I am not supporting/endorsing Vick. I will probably pull ALL of his cards even from my product.

I think Dog Fighting is very wrong. Back when I was younger a BIG white Pitbull lived next door to our house (for a short time). The owner probably did fight him because he had a spring that he tied up on a tree and let the dog hang from and shake (for a LONG time). Onc snowy night my dad started to take our dog for a walk and before my dad even closed the house door this Pitbull was on our dog's neck shaking the hell out of it. I just happened to be busting a box of 1993-94 Upper Deck Hockey (pulled a Gretzky Electric Ice card BV-$60 at the time....:new_shock ). I heard this awful sound and I ran to my bedroom window and looked out to see our dog getting tore up by this pitbull. That was some scary stuff. The snow turned red, the guy and my dad were yelling at each other.....the cops came....:icon_roll

I can't imagine people going to these types of events and Cheering....:icon_roll

Luckily our dog was OK but had to have emergency surgery to insert a hollow tube in her neck (she had a puncture that went from the top of her neck to the bottom by her vital organs).

I guess I have been "VICKtimized".....:icon_evil

Thanks
Mike

Mike, wow what a memory! I've know a couple people who have had pit-bulls, they are nice dogs like any other if treated properly, but they were given that name for a reason, its just a shame all this gets the spotlight for someone of Vicks standing in the public eye, its a bigger shame that anyone would defend him, when people are wrong they should just be able to swallow pride and say I'm wrong.....blahblahblahblah, sorry for the thread high-jack

I have heard Pitbulls can be nice if trained properly.

But natural instinct for these dogs are to go for the neck and shake it up.

You don't know how many times I heard this dude next door saying "skktt...skktt" (sound) and then "get em Cain, watch em"..."shake it"

I have a 2 1/2 year old daugher, what if back when my dad was walking the dog, what it if was me taking my daughter out to our car and the dog just runs through and attacks?

Has anyone ever seen that show "when animals attack"? There was some Pitbull that some lady had and a woman animal control officer was going to make a report or something and the lady says "you better get outta here, I am letting him loose" and the dog gets out of the house, looks around and attacks the heck out of the lady. It doesn't have to just be another dog.

I know that I would never own a Pitbull (I have a husky/black lab mix) and if I knew there was a Pitbull living in our area I would be much more cautious about letting our kids play outside or ride their bikes alot or stuff like that.

Thanks
Mike

guess i will weigh in on the subject

lets just say i have a few extra top loaders now, as mike is no longer worthy of protection. i would be unhappy receiving ANY mike vick stuff from this point on.

as far as pits go, i used to own one for 4+ years. was a great pet, very well trained, and was even great with kids. from what i have been told by an avid pit owner, alot of the problem with violence comes from the breading of them. it has to do with the size of their brain vs. skull. aparently, when bread a certain way, their brains actually exceed the size of their skull thus making them very violent.

bottom line, pits get a bad rap when they can be just as loving as any other bread.

dont blame the dogs, blame the owners.

What's frickin unreal...the fact that someone has an opinion that differs from yours? I personally couldn't care less what other people do on their time either, as long as it doesn't affect me. Why is everyone always so worried about what the other guy is doing? Do what you want and let everyone else be. I don't see why this is such a big deal either.

the fact that someone has an opinion thats different from mine is fine, I encourage free thinking and opinions, I find it unreal that no one cares until it affects them though, why wait until your in a situation to give a damn? I don't care about Mike Vick either, or what he does on his time, but what he did is a big deal and people that don't think so are entitled to feel that way, like you do, I just can't understand why that would be fine with you, because its not your dog or something?

If someone is foolish enough to spend $5,000- $10,000 on a dog and risk getting it killed then so be it. That's their choice. If that dog attacked mine then yes, I would be pretty upset. But as long as they are kept caged/penned up then what, really, are they doing to hurt you? They breed these dogs specifically for fighting, like cattle are bred for butchering. If that is what they choose to do with their money then that's fine with me. If they get caught they should get punished for it accordingly. I just don't see why everyone is getting all worked up about it because it's not affecting you at all.

its just not right, thats all, but everyone is entitled to think what they want, just because people breed them for fighting doesn't make it right or, ok with me, its not like we are eating the dogs, putting the dead animal to use, they just kill dogs for amusement, and if one got out of its 'cage' and went crazy on someone the whole thing could be avoided if they weren't allowed to be kept(for fighting) in the first place.... don't see how thats ok with anyone....I guess its just principle where we differ Mike!

but I'm actually tired of hearing about it now, the media just plays stuff to death, and it will be swept away with new bad news once someone else tops the Vick story in a week or two

Oh wow, not to sound mean or anything but if a pitbull came at me i'd probably kick it in the head or something...not trying to be funny either.

I dont think Vick cards are just gonna plummet in value and stay there. Look at Chris Benoit. His stuff is selling pretty well considering he's a double murderer. I realize its not the same...but Vick's rare stuff is still rare...and will be even more rare if he never plays again.

even with the dog thing

the reason benoit stuff went up is because of death. vick stuff will level off, and if he were to die they would shoot up as well.

vick stuff will probably do the same as o j s did, hit the basement, and stay there, now that he is getting ready to plead guilty.

I'm happy I sold my Vick Ultimate auto /25 last year on Ebay.

I only got about $75 for it. I was hoping it would be over $100.

Probably wouldn't fetch half that now.

I don't think Vick will be coming back. I'm trying to envision a scenario where dog-lovers wouldn't heckle him even out of his home stadium.
