View Full Version : Tory Hunter wants to sign with yanks??! UnC_OwnZ61 03-06-2003, 07:18 PM tory hunter said that he has talked to george s. over the phone and "might" sign with the yankees at the end of his contract... any comments? mtduff4208 03-06-2003, 07:19 PM the empire grows..... IggyWH 03-06-2003, 07:24 PM It was all a joke on The Hot Seat that has been blow out of proportion. It was asked if he'd ever play for the Yankees and he said sure, because they give people a lot of money. Minnesota can't afford to let a player like Hunter go and they won't. UnC_OwnZ61 03-06-2003, 07:31 PM yes i heard that too but thats not what im talking about.. ive heard something different about a week ago... not on ESPN IggyWH 03-06-2003, 07:35 PM I know, I'm just saying all this talk now has come from this ESPN interview. People blow stuff up when it's meaningless. 03-06-2003, 07:50 PM they cant jbman187 03-06-2003, 07:57 PM Hunter is a awsome player.. will he repeat from last year? Hopefully! Molina00 03-06-2003, 08:17 PM Why do they need Hunter when they still have Williams roaming center? IggyWH 03-06-2003, 08:28 PM Originally posted by Molina00 Why do they need Hunter when they still have Williams roaming center? Exactly, like I said before, it was all a rumor started from his ESPN interview where he took a shot at the Yankees and then took it back saying I might want to sign with them one day because they pay the big bucks. nyyanks 03-06-2003, 08:43 PM being a yankees fan, i know its just a rumor, hunter has made people forget about pucket why would even a cash-stripped team let their franchise player go?? Although Torii Hunter would bring a nice right-handed bat the yankee lineup. lol :hop: :hop: :hop: :hop: :hop: :hop: :hop: :hop: Ipster 03-06-2003, 09:05 PM its Torii not Tory bassmaster 03-07-2003, 01:16 PM Everybody says they want to play for the Yankees but most of the time it's just a ploy to try and get more money. eegro369 03-07-2003, 04:23 PM fkin rich Bastards they mave so muvh money they should have a cap BrenFinn 03-07-2003, 04:36 PM i agree with eeger gioperation 03-07-2003, 05:02 PM Originally posted by Ipster its Torii not Tory it's kedar not torii and you would play for the yanks to, the way they spend money, why do people want more, because they can. If a competing company offered you double or triple your salary if you would come work for them and do the same thing, you can not tell me you wouldn't consider and another thing NY is the 2nd nicest city next to chicago and almost every ballplayer loves to go there. I bet if they MLB'er were polled on what road trip their wives clear their schedules for it would between NY or Chicago. I know a couple of the players and their wives always go to both each and everytime. Ryan tygercub12 03-07-2003, 07:26 PM I think the Yankee bashers are funny... it's just like any corporation... or even school. If someone offers you more money for a nicer environment, are you going to turn it down? Or say the admissions director offered you a scholarship to Harvard... and another from Bumbledunk College offered you the same scholarship money... you'd most likely go with the more prestigous school. Piazza31 03-07-2003, 09:10 PM He just signed a huge contract so he should be a twin for a couple of years to come. BrenFinn 03-08-2003, 09:59 AM the mLb should have salary caps that way all the teams could be evenly stacked swedishfish 03-08-2003, 05:04 PM As a yankee fan, i would love to have a player like Torii hunter in center, but by the time his contract is up George Steinbrenner will have bought more OF's not to mention we already have bernie for a couple more years and matsui. Juan Rivera is gonna be good too once he gets to play ETOPPSCARDGUY 03-09-2003, 01:44 AM Originally posted by BrenFinn the mLb should have salary caps that way all the teams could be evenly stacked Why?? Make smart decsions, be informed, have a good farm system. What about the Angels, didnt they win the series last year? Diamondbacks a 2 years ago. Baseball doesnt need to have salary caps. I really believe this will take and not add to the game. Ya it sucks that the Royals, Marlins etc... dont have that type of money but look at the Twins. Prime Example of a good system in place without the money of the bigger markets. JMO BGray 03-09-2003, 01:47 AM Whether its true or not, I would like to see a cap. Even though my team is probably over what it would be I think it is necessary for the future of baseball. I don't know if I can make it through another season of a looming strike. :( BGray ETOPPSCARDGUY 03-09-2003, 02:14 AM Originally posted by BGray Whether its true or not, I would like to see a cap. A person that runs a business should be able to spend what he wants on that business. I just dont like the thought of regulation in anything. (except my taxes) Its a free enterprize system and the owners should all be in agreemant.... It might be necessary but if the owners are willing to pay and we the consumer are here to purchase I say so be it. Just my opinion and I know its not a popular one....:( David 05-28-2003, 09:51 PM Even if the rumor was true, why would George give up his most consistent bat in the line-up?? Bernie is the most underrated player in baseball. podstock 05-29-2003, 12:53 PM Didn't the Twins just re-sign Torii to a new contract? It won't matter. Yankees can afford to pay a player 10x over. Given the choice of $10M per year, or $40M per year, which do you choose? Tejada's probably headed to NY, and any other big time stars at the end of their contracts. FARK the Yanks. It's pure BS when their salaries run upwards of $200M and the Devil Rays team makes less than $25M (or what A.Rod is paid) gioperation 05-29-2003, 01:30 PM where tejada going to play 3rd, and torrii said yeah he would think about going to the yanks, but he loves minnesota and they are like family, try talking to them about the matt lawton trade, they didn't talk about it for months. pwaldo 05-29-2003, 02:58 PM Originally posted by podstock Didn't the Twins just re-sign Torii to a new contract? You always bring this up and I have never heard of them going after Tejeda. Do you have some reason why he would go there? podstock 05-29-2003, 03:18 PM pwaldo... I heard/read on ESPN/Sportsline.com sometime before the MLB season started that the A's probably won't be able to pay Tejada more than $100M multi-year contract, and that the yankees are one of the few teams (presumably, the Dodgers and Mets) that have the money to spend. And yes, I do have a reason why Tejada would go to the Yankees rather than re-sign with the A's. When given the choice to sign a $100M multi-year contract vs. a $150M - $400M contract, which option do ***YOU*** choose? I don't know Tejada from a hole in the wall, but I bet you I know which one he'll pick. Like all athlete's, "..it's not about money, it's the $ign of re$pect that I am looking for..." Get the picture? pwaldo 05-29-2003, 03:24 PM Originally posted by podstock pwaldo... Get the picture? Okay... Where did $150-$400 million dollar contract come into talks? The Yankees already have a SS and aren't interested in Tejada. They WANT Guerrero because they NEED another outfielder. Yes they did express some interest in Tejada a long time ago but they no longer want him so why do we keep bringing up old rumors like this one and T. Hunter. Hunter just signed an extension with the Twins. Some of you people are paranoid. The Yankees DO NOT sign every player in the league. LOL podstock 05-29-2003, 03:39 PM Naturally, it only follows that the Yankees cannot sign every player in the league; otherwise, you can't have baseball games if everyone's a Yankee. Of course, you could have split squad games, but who's going to watch Yankee players play each other (outside of Yankees fans) for 162 games? But, every great player that's available will be given a chance to sign on the Yankees team. Arastis 05-31-2003, 03:29 PM They don't need him. leftyshan 05-31-2003, 03:38 PM I wouldn't be surprised to see Tejada in a Padres uniform next season. God knows they need the help, plus they're building a brand new stadium downtown in the heart of the city. They need a big time player to bring in the fans. podstock 05-31-2003, 04:04 PM hmmmm, i think Padres are too cheap to pay Tejada 100M+ salary Didn't they just sign Phil Nevin to big contract, only to have him out for the season due to season-ending injury pwaldo 05-31-2003, 08:12 PM Originally posted by leftyshan I wouldn't be surprised to see Tejada in a Padres uniform next season. The Padres seem to be the best fit now or either the Dodgers. I heard the Padres before were the front runner but now that the Dodgers offense has been lagging they are in desperate need of a batter. If another team signed him other than these 2 then I would be very surprised. gioperation 05-31-2003, 08:15 PM the cubbies could use him and they can dump gonzalez or trade him with some extras. he is a quality SS and has some pop in his bat as well. podstock 05-31-2003, 08:22 PM Torii Hunter is known more for his defense than offense. Struggling mightily this year; but that hasn't prevented him from playing gold glove-like defense there in centerfield!! kevsyrock 06-01-2003, 09:43 PM i think that the yanks should just buy everyone in the league just so they could win every year, oh wait they do kevsyrock 06-01-2003, 09:43 PM oh and thats torii |
