I picked this one up in a trade at a card show in 1996 (i think) in FL. I traded a 1995 Pinnacle Artist Proof Ken Griffey Jr for it. I believe the Griffey booked around $80 at the time and the Arod only booked $40. The dealer who traded me had to get the better end of the deal so I had to give double in bv for the trade. Now who's smiling :becky: . I thought it would have gotten a better grade...at least a 9. The card still looks flawless to me but no way would I unslab and resubmit it to get it graded again. It received 9.5 for centering, 9.5 for surface, 8.5 for edges, and 8 ($%^##@) for corners. The front corners look great. On back two of the corners have some microscopic white showing (need a magnifying glass to see it). If they would have graded the corners 8.5..I'd have had a 9 overall.

I got this one in a lot. A guy was selling 50 Alex Rodriguez's on eBay (back in the late 90's). He was a coin dealer and didn't seem to know much about cards. He listed 3 of the cards as "1995 SP" #15. I realized by the number of the card that they were actually 1994 SP rookie cards. For a minimum bid of $100, I picked up 3 1994 SP Arod rookies, a 1994 Sportsflics Arod rookie insert, a 1994 Leaf Lim. Phenoms Arod, 30 or so 1994 Collector's Choice base set rookies (could be where I got my 1 with white letter A on back variation). There were some assorted 1994 Classic cards of Arod also. The card below was one of five of '94 Coll. Choice Arod silver signature cards I received in the lot. The thing with this one is that it is a base card (white lettering front and back), and not the silver parallel version. Only the silver parallel is supposed to have the silver fascimile signature. I've only seen one other like it and that was on ebay. Every now and then I see these 1994 Collector's Choice error cards pop up of other players, including Jeter, but they are super rare in my opinion...thus it is one of my real favorites!!!

and last but not least, this is one of my favorites because it was a tough card to finally get. I don't remeber what I traded for it, but it was something around $200 in autograph cards and game used cards back in 2000 or 2001. To me this is definitely a tough Arod rookie year parallel card to get...and it graded better than I thought it would have--BONUS!!:thumb:

Thanks for letting me share my good fortunes.

I have a couple of UDCC A-Rods, I didn't realize it was that rare.

At least I've never seen any others but one of these Arod '94 UD CC base cards (white lettering) with the silver signature and that was on eBay. I'm sure there are more out there, but not a whole lot. I guess it would be considered a manufacturing error. I'm not sure how it compares to the other variant of the same card with the white letter "A" on back. I only have one of those out of my 50 base cards. I've seen someone selling the Jeter base card with silver signature error card also.

ANYONE ELSE SEEN THESE SILVER SIGNATURE ERROR VARIATION BASE CARDS?

I'm not a fan of A-Rod, but those are some pretty sweet cards you have.
