Busch no longer sponsoring series after 2007

<!-- Writer -->SCENEDAILY - 11:48AM ET MONDAY DECEMBER 18, 2006 -

Anheuser-Busch (http://www.scenedaily.com/search/?op=query&q=%22Anheuser-Busch%22) will no longer serve as title sponsor of NASCAR (http://www.scenedaily.com/search/?op=query&q=%22NASCAR%22)'s No. 2 series after 2007, Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal reports. Anheuser-Busch's contract with NASCAR for the NASCAR Busch Series comes to an end after 2007, and NASCAR officials say the cost to sponsor the series will go up.
Tony Ponturo (http://www.scenedaily.com/search/?op=query&q=%22Tony%20Ponturo%22), Anheuser-Busch's vice president of global media and sports marketing, told the SBJ (http://www.scenedaily.com/search/?op=query&q=%22SBJ%22) that it was his company's decision to withdraw from the sponsorship. The company began sponsoring the series in 1982, when the series was called the NASCAR Budweiser (http://www.scenedaily.com/search/?op=query&q=%22Budweiser%22) Late Model Sportsman Series. It was changed to the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series in 1984 and then the NASCAR Busch Series in 1995.

SBJ reports that industry sources are estimating the new sponsorship deal could be worth more than $30 million a year, which is three times what Anheuser-Busch is paying.

This has been rumored for about a year now. All that's left is to see who will take over as sponsor. I'm sure there's a line to take it over lol.

Wow. It's gonna be weird for it to be called anything else. I heard a couple months ago that they were thinking about changing it to some Monster drink stuff or something.

Well, if Busch was $10 million a year, that is a lot of beer they would have to sell to make up for the cost!

I read something on Jayski that it might be either Walmart or Samsung.

Yea, I read that on Jayski a few months back...I went back through his archives, and found the article...

UPDATE: Hearing the Monster Energy drink (http://www.monsterenergy.com/), which is distributed [not owned] by Anheuser-Busch, will be the new sponsor of the 'Busch' Series. So the Monster Series or the Monster Energy Drink Series?.(9-28-2006)

But, Jayski says it's most likely going to be either Wal-Mart, Samsung, or Subway.

After actually reading the article (or another similar), it seems pretty clear that NASCAR raised the price on Anheiser-Busch and they balked at it. NASCAR is forcing out other long-time sponsors for more lucrative deals. Unical 76, Goody's, and others are gone. Look the price to sponsor the Busch Series triple from last year. The Frances are looking to move up that Forbes 500 ladder it seems.

It really is sad to see NASCAR going the way it is
It's become so much about money & show
No loyalty to the corporations that got them where they are

Look at the stands for a Busch race - pretty empty. Will they really get 30 million from a sponsor?

I still love racing but it sure has changed

I would love to see Samsung take it, why... cuz I do tech support for Samsung and have direct contact with the VIPs of the company. Then my coworkers wouldnt be able to say much when I add a new diecast to my already cluttered desk, lol.

also on another note, Sirius radio is in the same building as us and they have Tony Stewart crap all over the place, oh well at least is racing decore.
