Mark Martin is finally a part-timer... no, wait...
The world's worst retiree is at it again. As we all know, Mark Martin was supposed to have hung up his Nextel Cup helmet at the end of 2005, but extended his farewell "Salute to You" tour through 2006 with Roush Racing. Then, he shocked the world by announcing that — in '07 — he would be joining perennial second-division MB2 (now Ginn Racing) as a part-time teammate of fellow 40-somethings Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek.
Now Martin is hinting at the fact that part-time might again become full-time, admitting that he and team GM Jay Frye have agreed to see where the No. 01 car is at the end of the spring before determining the number of races Martin will or will not run through the remainder of the season. In other words, if Martin is within sniffing distance of the top 10 in points — or whatever number NASCAR will allow into The Chase after its expected rule changes — then he might extend his farewell tour at least one more year.
