This is something I have been wondering for awhile. How does Press Pass decide what drivers they are going to use on Race Used cards? I just wonder because I am going to be expanding my collection into the Johnny Sauter area and noticed all he has RU wise is a triple hat (thats just by looking on ebay). So I guess a second question to my original question is, am I going to be chasing a white whale when it comes to Johnny's RU cards. (reguardless I am still going to collect his cards just was wondering if I might be able to excpect some more RU stuff)

It seems that they mainly just use the bigger named drivers. You won't find much Sauter stuff. It's usually the bigger named guys (Jr., Gordon, Johnson, Stewart, Kenseth, etc.)

Thats what I thought but if you look at some of the drivers who have RU items you wouldnt think they would.

They do that for the big race used product of American Thunder. Practically every driver has a hat card or something.

i was told by susan at press pass that it is a determination of what they already have and what they can get from certain teams.for example,no mark martin firesuit card in 05 or 06.they have to get material from teams rep. and if they don't get it in time, well, then no card for that driver.she also said it is ALOT easier to get up and coming drivers than vets used items.she said they also have to look ahead and pull some older drivers for drivers like edwards,hamlin,kahne,etc... hope that helps.

Yeah, I can understand the whole vets tor ookies thing but if you really think about it Johnny Sauter isnt really a vetran so to speak (along the lines of Nextel Cup) But I guess it falls under "What teams give press pass" Maybe I should e-mail his team and tell them to give away more of his stuff lol.

for 2007 all i would look for in sauter would probably be triple hat,and maybe cool threads and 1 or 2 others.

Yeah, I excpect the minimum but if he continues running full time I can only hope for more.

I think it also comes down to the fact that us, as collectors, know, that if we're paying a decent amount for a box of cards, we want to pull someone who's either valuable, or can be traded. For example, most people would rather pull a Jeff Gordon RU, than a Robby Gordon RU (no offense to Robby fans), just because even if you don't like Jeff, you know that you can trade it away for something of someone you can collect. I think thats the main reason they put the bigger named drivers in there. B/c us, as collectors, would be angry if we pulled lower end guys, who not many people collect, and don't sell that high.

But if thats the case, why even go ahead and put in CTS drivers and legends autographs? If you think about it they dont command a huge trade intrest or after market selling point. There are exceptions but it seems like you can pull a legend autograph alot eaiser then anything else.

Well, those are autos. I'm talking RU. There's usually around 10-15 guys in RU sets. As far as Autos go, theres usually at least 50+ people per set. PP can send blank cards to get signed to pretty much anybody. But it's tougher getting RU pieces. Thats why I think if they are gonna go after RU stuff, it would make more sense to go after bigger named guys.
