The Nextel Cup 2007 season will feature more points for victories and more drivers in the Chase for the Cup, NASCAR vice president of corporate communications Jim Hunter said this afternoon. How many points and how many drivers are being determined, Hunter said during a visit to USA TODAY's newsroom in McLean, Va. I think more drivers in the Chase would/could make it a bit more exciting..and it would be nice to see more points for a win.

I like the idea for more points for wins, but I DON'T like the idea for more drivers in the chase.

This gets brought up in other sports whenever someone suggests more teams should be in the playoffs. It waters down the meaning to be that good. If you allow 12-15 drivers in the chase... then what does the first 26 races mean? Not a whole lot. And it shouldn't be that way. If you want a chance at the title, then you and your team better work your butt off to be that good and get into the top 10.
