View Full Version : 2007 Wheels High Gear
Lesracing 01-10-2007, 02:29 AM Hey guys and gals,
Once everyone busts their box(es) of 2007 Wheels High Gear, could you please make a nice, orderly post showing what you got out of your boxes. Also, if possible, provide a scan of the best card you pulled? If you need help posting scans, PM anyone on the STC Racing team and we will try to help. Also please make sure to put how you felt about this product, quality of cards, pull ratios, looks, etc., good or bad post it and be honest.
When reviewing a product that you have personally opened, try to include....
**The name, brand, and year of the product
**Listed inserts and odds of pulling
**Number of packs per box and number of cards per pack
**Your assessment of how your actual pulls were versus how the odds say you should have pulled
**Also note if you were able to complete a base or insert set or how close you got to a complete set
**Your opinion of the quality of cards, quality of packaging, collation, etc, etc, anything a collector would be interested in before investing in this product
Thanks for your input!!
Thanks
STC Racing Team

I like this year's sets. I didn't really care for the Touring and other Series that were inserted into High Gear this year. It was kinda weird that of the three boxes Paul (odin8448) bought, we pulled two Danny O'Quinn autos. I did like the Final Standing Cards. I like the Driven insert set better than the Flag to Flags. All in all even though I didn't get a flag chaser in this year's box I would still give this a 4 out of 5 cause that Martin #6/9 card made me feel better :)

stewart20rulz 01-19-2007, 04:51 PM Here's what came out of my two boxes:
159 base cards (88 different -- need #23 and #80 to complete the set (my dupes are trade bait)
(1) variation : (Earnhardt Jr RED variation) from what I can tell
(1)#0 Champion Jimmie Johnson card
(2) Daytona contest cards
(10) Top Tier: (Johnson (x2), Gordon (x2), Hamlin (x2),Kahne (x2), Martin (x2) (both boxes had the same 5 Top Tier cards  ) Dupes are trade bait.
(6) Full Throttle: Gordon, Harvick, Dale Jr, Kahne, Stewart, Truex
(1) MPH #M72 Scott Riggs #68/100 (trade bait)
(21) DRIVEN including 4 dupes (trade bait)
:amen: Jeff Gordon White Flag #57/89 (trade bait for Stewart Flag or equivalent race used)
:appl: David Ragan Wheels Autograph (is his name supposed to be spelled Regan or Ragan???) (trade bait for Stewart race used or auto)
I think it is an OK base set but past Wheels High Gear were better. I thought with two boxes I'd have at least one base set but came up two cards short. I think the Full Throttle inserts are colorful and neat, but the Top Tier seemed kind of blah and dark to me even with the shiny surface and fireworks. It also sucked that I got the same five Top Tier cards out of each box. The Driven inserts remind me of another bordered set from the past for some reason other than the shiny surface and I didn't care much for them. I didn't care much for last year's Flag-to-Flag set either, but didn't like either set more than the other. The card stock seems a lot cheaper and thinner too, even for the flag cards. The autographs are OK, but kind of plain to me. The Ragan has a portrait of him with stripes behind him and a large white space for his itty bitty signature at the bottom. Thankfully Press Pass hasn't gone to using sticker autographs like the other brands. The Flag Chaser card I got isn't too appealing to look at (not much color other than white and gray on the card except for the picture of the car), but I'm happy I got one. Overall, this isn't one of the better Wheels High gear products I've collected, but is average. I'd give it a 3 out of a 5. Would have been less, but I got an autograph and flag card so I can't knock the boxes too bad.
DID ANYONE NOTICE WE"RE ALL GETTING NEARLY THE SAME 5 TOP TIER CARDS and NEARLY THE SAME FULL THROTTLE CARDS IN EACH OF THESE BOXES SO FAR!!!!!!!!!

Over all I like the looks of the set. Like the Driven card 100% better then the Flag to Flag. Full Throttles look good but didn't captivate you. Top Tier are to plain, didn't like at all. Thrilled I recieve 2 Flag Chasers in 2 boxes. Could of used an Auto also, oh well. Pull Ratio were about right. Didn't like the fact that out of 2 boxes I didn't finish a base set and maybe could of been better odds at pulling a MPH. Last year was 2 per box.
I give this one a 4.25 out of 5 stars. Everything with ***** is not for trade. Will list in traders after IOW's are paid out.
Thanks Les, great break.

haleysgirl 01-19-2007, 09:50 PM Working on my third box, pull ratio is on the money for once.
Have Kenseth & Kluever Autos, and Jr Black Flag #15/89.
Still need several Top Tier, Driven, and Full Throttles.
Like everyone else I had to break the third box to complete my base set, yes, missing two cards!
Have not taken the time to look for variations. After I pull the variants all my dupes will be for trade, hope to have that list up later tonight. Bear with me if it takes till Monday... Not sure what I will do with the Flag and Autos just yet, so don't going filling up my email or PM box til they are offered.

I was pretty pleased to complete my "Master Set" except for the variations from five boxes. I like the looks of the base set. I wish if they were gonna do variations they would be more substantial.
I like the Driven set a lot. The colors and foil look are real nice. A big improvement over the Flag to Flag
I both like and dislike the Full Throttle set. Really nice looking cards with interesting pictures and colors. But they ding and flake way to easy! Or maybe some of the cards I pulled just have stray silver flakes on them.
The Top Tier cards I started out not liking - they seemed kinda dark. But then I noticed that under a lamp if you rock the card the fireworks seem to "pop". I decided that's rather cool.
Not at all impress with the background on the Autographs. I don't know if it's to much white or just the plainness of the colored stripes. Prior year backgrounds were just more interesting.
Flag Chasers are OK. I'm just not real thrilled with the whole concept of the flag thing.
I'm real pleased with my boxes and I give Wheels High Gear 4 out of 5 stars
Lauriebugg 01-21-2007, 05:02 AM I did 10 boxes of this release so will just give general run down of pulls. Took a bit longer than usual as per looking for the variations.
2007 wheels high gear
base sets - 6 complete - 1 missing only 5 (they have been found & on way)
stack of almost 200 dupes
Variations - 5 (4 of the 6)
1 jr (mine)
1 hamlin (gone)
1 harvick (listed)
2 johnson (listed)
Driven - 1 full set - 1 almost set missing 2 (but they on way)
Lots of dupes!
Top Tier - 4 full sets
Lots of dupes!
Full Throttle - 1 full set
2 more almost full sets (fillers on way)
so only few dupes (most listed already)
Zero '0' johnson champion cards - 3
Daytona contest - 10 (mine, I send in)
MPH - 6 (one sold already, rest are listed)
Final Standings - 3 (none in top 10)
Autos - 4
Kluever - Truex Jr - Stewart - Harvick
Flag Chasers - 6
Jr black (mine)
Edwards yellow
Edwards white
Kenseth red
Gordon black
Johnson blue/yellow
That pretty much sums up my break. Not the greatest but by far not the worse. Pull ratios were pretty much as stated. But they was kinda skimpy on the MPH ones never the less. I liked the new looks of all of them. And can definately live without the diecuts as the corners bend (marr, mess up) so easily. So like the new Driven ones. What I did not like is that the ones I was short was for mostly less popular drivers, go figure. Way too many dupes which suprized me as I had 2 different box checkers?, inspectors, 5 from each one and still had lots of dupes and could not complete sets. And no 'hot' box. Do they even do hot boxes anymore? Used to kinda be general rule, one hot box to each case. Guess I getting wrong side of case! :sign0020:
And by the way, the top tier do look like the fireworks are exploding if held under light and turned a bit. Is a nice touch.
Thanks much Les for all you do for us and these case breaks. Big :appl: for Les folks. He deserves a hug too!
But not too tightly, he married! :pound:
Besides my keepers, most will be for sale as have already done any trades I needed.
Thanks again Les!

pezesu 01-21-2007, 12:10 PM hi all, opened 10 boxes. was a little disappionted with the flag chaser looks, liked last years much better with the driver on the front. i was also upset with the quality of the full throttle cards, alot of chipping on the backs mostly. l liked the driven cards & the # to the piont standings would have loved to pull a top ten driver. the breakdown.

realricrod 01-27-2007, 03:56 PM Here is my box break for 2 boxes:
Box #1
Base Set: 79 cards with no doubles
Variation: 1 (Kevin Harvick)
Driven: 10 cards with no doubles
Top Tier: 5 cards with no doubles
Full Throttle: 3 cards with no doubles
MPH: 1 (M17 Ryan Newman 004/100)
Power Pick: 1 card
Flag Chasers: 1 (FC4 Tony Stewart White Flag 75/89)
Autographs: 0
Zero Card: 0
Box #2
Base Set: 78 cards with no doubles
Variation: 0
Driven: 10 cards with no doubles
Top Tier: 5 cards with no doubles
Full Throttle: 3 cards with no doubles
MPH: 1 (M63 Tony Stewart 095/100)
Power Pick: 1 card
Flag Chasers: 2 (FC3 Kevin Harvick Red Flag 66/89) (FC8 Jeff Gordon Green Flag 21/89)
Autographs: 0
Zero Card: 1
I did get to open a third box with my friend but did not separate the cards, they ended up being blended in. In it the good card was a FC4 Tony Stewart Green Flag.
Overall reaction:
Looks:
- Base cards: I have always liked the looks of High Gear, a good stock on the cards, good photos etc.
- Variations: Sorry I am still one that does not care for having to figure them out, just give me a insert.
- Driven: Did not care for the look of this at all, the border I just did not like at all.
- Top Tier: I do like the changes here, nice looking cards, good change.
- Full Throttle: Great looking, best looking card of the set.
- MPH: I am very happy that high gear only does one parallel set, I enjoy this set up.
- Power Pick: I am not one that is big on these entry cards at all, enough said.
- Flag Chasers: Did not care for the look at all, Gray bland looking card, sorry but just did not like them.
- Autographs: I did not pull any but have seen them on line, too busy!!!!
- Zero Card: Always like the 0 cards, keep them going!
Final thoughts:
Good pulls for the odds, that is including not only inserts but also the race used. For the price in my opinion this is a good buy. I have noticed that some are not getting a auto or race used, hate to see that, the odds really look like you should get a RU or Auto. But they are just odds. I did enjoy what I pulled but the looks of the Flag Chasers just did not impress me. Now I just have to trade for drivers I collect!
I would give this 3 out of 5 stars (low because I did not like the looks of the Race Used and Autos)
Thanks,
Rick

Lesracing 02-01-2007, 01:32 AM I didn't buy any boxes, but I was given the "remains" of the two boxes my buddy got from our case break and busted.
Overall the base set seems about normal for the High Gear release. I did however like the slight "retro" look that took me back to the roots of High Gear. The angled design sort of looks like the '94 cards and that was a nice touch.
I was sort of disappointed in the Carmeleon cards. I have always liked these cards as a subset, but the design this year was disappointing. Sadly, there were only 8 cards this year and it didn't work out mathetical in the position of the set for all of them to be on the same page which has always made a nice display in the past. (I use 9 pocket pages). I have ALWAYS favored the 1st Gear cards and for the Carmeleon cards, they have always been awesome looking and GR8 for displaying seperately. I wish we'd get that look back, First Gears were ALWAYS nice looking!!!
From what I could see, the pull ratios were just about right on for the two boxes. I am only "guessing" on this based on what was in the box of cards when I got it (and both boxes were mixed in one). My buddy told me he only kept 3 cards from the two boxes and he gave me all the rest.
I do like the fact that the Flag Chasers cards have increased the overall surface area displayed for the piece of flag itself (even if it is only a tiny bit larger).
I thought the Top Tier cards were pretty dark looking when I first saw them, but after seeing them under the light, they were much nicer since you get to see the fireworks clearly. They're kinda neat!!!
The Driven set are really nice cards. Sure beats some of the past choices for "a set within a set". Very nice insert!
The Full Throttle cards were very cool. I liked the mix of b&w with the color on the plastic card. Hope to see similar designs in the future like these.
Overall... I liked the set. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 based on the designs and looks of the product!
I guess I am "lucky" that with the two boxes Rich got that I was able to complete a base set. I'll still have to do allot of trading to complete my full set, but that's what it's about. :becky:
kahnefan 02-02-2007, 09:10 PM great pulls everyone..looks like there were some good flags pulled
ajwest92 02-02-2007, 09:48 PM I busted my box of High gear and here is the scuttlebutt:
base: 79/90 for a set with no doubles; plus a Edwards parallel M33 36/100 and the Dale Jr. variation--only 5 variations to go
inserts: 10 driven, 5 top tier, 3 full throttle; no doubles
Paul Menard wheels autograph--MINE
not bad set but if there is to be variations, have them at better odds than 1/3 boxes. It looks like you need to gets at least two boxes for a set, though. the inserts looked decent but not great. the design of the set needs work--worst design i've seen in a loooong time in any set.
the set gets a 3.5 out of 5 stars and my box also gets 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Believe 03-09-2007, 07:04 PM Well, I busted three more boxes of High Gear and I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed, but not in the product. I love High Gear, always have. Les has told me on different occassions to not base the bust on getting scarce cards and race-used, but I got ZERO MPH's out of the three boxes and I love the MPH's! I didn't get any Final Standings either. I should have plenty enough to make a base set and I"m going to look back and see what variations I got. Should have quite a few dupes of Drivens and Full Throttles, so if anyone needs anything, let me know. I am happy about the really good cards I did pull, though! I pulled a Matt Kenseth Auto, a Steve Wallace Auto and a Denny Hamlin Flag Chaser White Flag 87/89. I am willing to trade all three, but they would have to be for something I really like. I'm more willing to give up the Wallace than I am the Kenseth and I'm more willing to give up both of those before the Flag Chaser of Hamlin. I also pulled two Zero cards and one of them I'll gladly trade. Overall, I give the product a 4.5/5, but I'll give my pulls a more modest 4/5. I love the MPH's, but sadly they did not love me this time.
