"The contract that Palmer signed with Cincinnati three days before the draft, a six-year deal that could be worth as much as $49 million according to NFL Players Association calculations, includes a loyalty clause Bengals officials have been negotiating into deals for the last few years.

Under terms of the loyalty clause, Palmer could conceivably forfeit his entire signing bonus if he makes remarks critical of the Bengals during his first season with the team. The penalty is prorated, annually reduced by one-sixth of the total signing bonus, for the subsequent seasons."

They're so bad they have to put into their players contracts that they can't say anything bad about the team. LOL

hahahahaha, well there goes "..aww, man, my team sucked today; I got sacked 6 times, receivers dropped 7 balls, and my RB fumbled 3 times....."

So, I suppose Palmer can only say "...we look to improve our play week to week..."

Palmer better keep his mouth shut because I don't see the team getting that much better next year. But how bad has it gotten for them now that they have to censor their own players on critcizing them.

hee hee hee....exactly. To have to put a CLAUSE that prevents a player from speaking his mind is pretty stringent.

It's one thing to put clauses in for:

no felonies (rape, robbery with gun, etc)

dangerous activities in off-season (motor-bike off road racing, bungee jumping)

etc

But when you put in a clause to censor a guy, wow!!

I do see the Bengals getting better..but that's only on the premise that they cannot get worse. Of course, if they didn't win a single game, that would technically be getting worse,

That's because the rumors that come out of Cincinatti are true... if they fixed their problems, they wouldn't have to worry about players badmouthing the organization!

LOL it's a sad day when your multi million dollar contract balances on whether or not you will be so dissapointed in your team that you will make a bad comment about your own team...And to the Bengals I say don't worry about what he might say because everyone already knows.....

Agreed Iggy.

Its the worst team in sports and they need to concentrate on fixing the team rather than penalizing its players for being critical of them.

Man you cant dis my hometown team like that. What they are trying to do is get the right guys to stay in there and change the image of the Bengals. Seriously give them a chance this year. But ya know its gonna take at least a couple of years for this kid to get good.

i love the bengals, they will be improved this season. they have had maybe the best offseason and draft combination in the whole NFL and marvin lewis really seems to be setting a standard in cincinnati. i know as of now there is nothin except fact to back up, no production, but as a true bengals fan and going through the last 12 years or crappy teams, i believe they are building. one good sign, they wont enter the season to be picked as the NFL's worst team, hopefully they can maintain some dignity and start winning.

Actually, I think they are on the right track to be one of the more improved teams in the coming years. Warrick and Johnson give Palmer some great targets. Dillon needs a line to block for him though. What's this about Kitna most likely being the starter and Palmer battling Akili Smith for the backup role? That's suicide if you ask me.

Palmer needs at least the first few games to learn the new system.

He is their QB of the future, but there's no reason to rush him in, esp. with as bad a team as they have.

Last thing Bengals need is for Palmer to take the very first snap of the season, get sacked by a blitzing LB b/c he didn't see the defensive scheme, and get injured.

There's plenty of time.
