2006-07 ITG Heroes & Prospects Box break Review

http://www.sportstradercentral.com/images/itg/itg-heros-prospects-box.jpg Description. The 2006-07 In the Game Heroes & Prospects product is a colorful, simple set of hockey cards. The set features a clean base card with a bright, colorful design. What I like best about this product is that there are only few non-game used or non-autographed inserts.

The box contains 24 packs with each pack containing 5 cards and a "He Shoots He Scores" redemption point (more on this later). In our box of 2006-07 ITG Heroes & Prospects we pulled 117 of the 150 base cards (78% of the set) with no duplicates. We also pulled 4 inserts; a game used card, an autograph card and 2 base inserts. Each pack contained a "He Shoots He Scores (http://www.itgtradingcards.com/redemption/0607_hp_hshs.html)" decoy card (unless we pulled a premium insert) worth one redemption point. Get 250 redemption points and you can cash them in for one of 40 special game used memorabilia cards produced by ITG. Each card is numbered to 20! See full list of cards and details here (http://www.itgtradingcards.com/redemption/0607_hp_hshs.html#mem).

Game Used Memorabilia and autographs
We pulled one autograph and one game used memorabilia card. We couldn't have asked for a better number of premium inserts. The jersey swatch card of hot prospect John Tavares covers about 2/5 of the card.

Base Inserts - Checklist (http://www.itgtradingcards.com/products/0607_hp/0607_hp_c_nonmeminsert.html)
The other two inserts were a Class of 2006 of Derick Brassard and a Calder Cup Champions Brooks Laich card. What is great about 2006-07 In the Game Heroes & Prospects product is there are not a lot of base inserts. This is great for set collectors.

Base Cards - Checklist (http://www.itgtradingcards.com/products/0607_hp/0607_hp_c_base.html)
The base set of 2006-07 In the Game Heroes & Prospects is 150 cards. The base set is broken down into Heroes, Prospects, International, Team Canada, CHL grad, and AHL Grad. The base set looks and feels great and is the best part of this product. We completed most of the set and should have no trouble trading for the rest of the cards.

Out of the case I saw opened from others who bought from me there was alot of great pulls game used wise and some decent autos. Alot of quality came out of 12 boxes and yours looks like a above average break.

You pulled the top player game used wise out of the base jersey set. I wish some new players were added into the base set that have not been on a card yet from the CHL. ECHL players would be a nice addition as they were in 05-06 series two. And there are alot of AHL fans that go after base cards from the local area teams, so that helps secondary sales on base.

One thing I like about ITG is you get players before they will ever be in a licensed product. Look at Tavares as a example as he will not be NHL ready until 2009 I believe but he has cards, auto's, and game used etc. ITG does a great job searching for players that will make a impact in the future and the swatches of some of the Emblems, Patches, etc. are to die for. Take a look at the sweet swatches in Beckett and a lot of times you will see a picture of a H&P patch or emblem. So kudo's to ITG for putting out a great product.

Another solid effort by ITG. They could stand to have a re-design though. They look the same as previous years.

I like the fact that In The game is coming out with prospects even before they make to nhl, I also like the super sized swatches they put on the Game Used, 1 thing that I would like to see more of, hard signed auto's instead of stickers, and 1 thing that I would like to mention, and I know that not everyone is going to agree with, but this goes out to all the card manufacturers, not just to In The Game, but since they actually read these reviews I will mention it.

Please, Please lay off the game used stuff for awhile, the market is getting so over crowded with GU,printing plates, etc.. that it is getting harder to get your moneys worth out of a box cards these days especially when the box costs close to $100 dollars and more.

ITG always delivers great products. I also like the large G-U swatches. As a collector of goalie cards, there are always new players every year for me to add to my collection. The lack of redemption cards is a plus... I've been waiting nearly two years for a card from the competition. The HSHS program is a hit with collectors. There are always collectors that trade for points to redeem these for cards, some of which don't even get the regular set.
