Here are just some tips for those of you making banners and other web graphics..

1. If you are making a graphic for the web, it should have a resolution of 72 dpi.

2. You need to know the size of your graphic before you start making it. If you add pixels to make it larger after you start, the editing program has to "guess" the color of the added pixels. This results in a grainy, pixelated look.

3. It is preferable to have it in GIF format, but if it has a photograph, or lots of shadows, it will probably need to be saved as a JPEG.

4. You need to optimize the graphic for the web. This means you need to make the file size as small as possible while maintaining the integrity of the graphic. You do this by using as few colors as possible (you do this after you have already made your graphic) and selecting a dithering percent and pattern that keeps the graphic looking as close to the original as possible.
