Once everyone busts their box(es) of 2007 Press Pass VIP, could you please make a nice, orderly post showing what you got out of your boxes. Also, if possible, provide a scan of the best card you pulled? If you need help posting scans, PM anyone on the STC Racing team and we will try to help. Also please make sure to put how you felt about this product, quality of cards, pull ratios, looks, etc., good or bad post it and be honest.

When reviewing a product that you have personally opened, try to include....

**The name, brand, and year of the product
**Listed inserts and odds of pulling
**Number of packs per box and number of cards per pack
**Your assessment of how your actual pulls were versus how the odds say you should have pulled
**Also note if you were able to complete a base or insert set or how close you got to a complete set
**Your opinion of the quality of cards, quality of packaging, collation, etc, etc, anything a collector would be interested in before investing in this product

Yay! First post of the string!

Stopped off at the local hobby shop and bought one box to see what it was like. Here's the breakdown:

Base cards: 79 of the 90 card set. No duplicates. Two SP rookies (Allmendinger and Gilliland)

Inserts: 10 Sunday Best, 5 Gear Gallery, 3 Trophy Club.

Parallels: Two transparent cards. Gear Gallery 4/12 Jeff Gordon and Trophy Club 1/9 Tony Stewart.

Autographs: Bronze Press Pass Signings Rex White

Race Used: None

For now I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I'm disappointed that they only have 20 packs in the box instead of 24 and that they only have one auto or race used per box on average. I would have been willing to pay a little more for a 24 pack box that had at least one of each per box on average. This may have been a bad box but they'll never get another chance to make a first impression and this one wasn't good.

I have no doubt that the boxes I get from Les on the case break will be much better...:becky:

My Take Is 5 Of 5. I Liked The Look Of The Subset Cards & Trans Cards, Not Happy With That Ratio, But Cain't Complain. It Will Take At Least 3 Boxes To Put Together The 90 Card Set & 2 For The Regular Set To 84. The $57.00 Price Per Box Is Very Reasonable For This Release. Thumbs-up To Press Pass For A Change. The odds were pretty much on the mark for an 'average' box with only the Gear Gallery being a card short of the odds and coming up one card short of the total that was due per box. I didn’t get any of the insert or parallels of Harvick cards for my collection, but I did get the three base cards. Guess I'll need to get all of them through trades!!!

Base Cards ~ Nice mix of color and black & white. Cards aren't overly gaudy with foil or wild colors. They seem to have just the right mix to make them look good. I also liked the VIP Rides subset sharing the drivers off track interests especially Gordon's Paul Yaffe chopper!!!

Gear Gallery ~ A decent enough replacement for the Head Gear cards. Only bad feature… too shiny and yu barely touch them on the edges and still leave a litle bit of a print on the card!!! Grrrrr!!!

Trophy Club ~ Nice card design… only bad thing I see so far… the other two drivers that I have cards of are holding their TROPHY... where is Jeff Burton's trophy? Isn't that why the subset is called Trophy Club ???

Gear Gallery & Trophy Club Trans ~ Nicely done! I'm a sucker for the plastic cards anyway and with the holofoil accents, it just makes me like them even more!

Sunday Best ~ Another HIGH shiny foil card. Grrrr!!! I do like the car on the track with an inset picture of the driver on the front. The design/layout I like, only thing I don't like is that all of the cards don't carry the same checkered background on them.

My rants… :rant: Disappointed with being a card short from my box. Why also is the checker design missing from some of the Sunday Best cards? I don't think they will look good all together for the cards that are missing or extremely light in color and the set won't match. Grrrr!!!

My overall product rating based on the card designs, pull ratios, etc. is:

"Could this be a "variation within a variation""? I doubt it becuase each one I have seen on eBay has looked the same way. I didn;t see any checkers on the Kasey Kahne card, the Tony Stewart card has them, but they are so faint you can barely make them out.

"Has Press Pass confirmed variations within this year's VIP product?" They rarely tell you in advance, we will need to carefully go over what we pull and find them ourselves, lol. When they do these things, they are hoping to get the collectors looking over their cards carefully to find these changes. Kind of like an a picture search puzzle book, LOL.

i am extremely pleased with the product and pull ratios. i don't understand why there are so many jarrett, rudd, waltrip inserts but i guess they drive too. base are nice as always, inserts are nice. not real fond of the gear gallery shiny foil.

i give it a 4.5/5 stars especially since i did better than i should have. should have only gotten 3 race used or autos and i got 5. all good drivers and the dale jr gold signings made it all worht while.

I was pleased with the pulls, was hoping to get an auto, but am still satisfied with what was received. The Reutimann Rookie Stripe was a nice surprise as I've considered starting a collection of his cards. I like the look of the base cards, very clean and nicely designed. But the shiny foil of the Gear Galleries and the Sunday Best cards are a bit too gaudy for my personal taste. Got several Gordon cards for my PC which I was happy about. I'd give it a rating of 4/5.

Overall, I am really happy with my box. I got down to the last 4 packs and hadn't gotten a race used or autograph. Then I got the AJ Allmendinger Get a Grip. It's a 3 color. It's definately the best card I've ever gotten from a box.

Overall, I'm pleased with my 2 boxes. The odds were correct, and after all I pulled my best card to date. I'm thrilled about that, I don't know how many of you hunt, but I had that feeling like when you kill your first decent buck. I like the look of the base cards, the Gear Gallery was terrible, i don't like that much foil at all. I like the Head Gear better. I'd give the product a 4 out of 5 stars

Odds for the pulls were right there, wished I would of pulled another Trophy dash, was on the short side of it. Beat the odds with auto and ru'd.

Base Cards ~ Always liked the VIP set when it comes to the base cards.

Gear Gallery ~ A nice card if you want to wear gloves when you handle them, feel like I have to use kid gloves.

Trophy Club ~ Card design is nice but have to agree w/Les, where is Burton's trophy and why is Jarrett even in the set(w/no trophy even), what has he won lately..grrrr waste of the card.

Gear Gallery & Trophy Club Trans ~ Always like the trans cards also. They did a better job this year with them!!!

Sunday Best ~ Don't care for these at all, remind me to much of the Making the show cards of the past. They just put a new name to them and what shine. Another kid glove card.

Over all like the product. Was really happy when I pulled the Pedal to Metal and then 3 packs later pulled the auto. Liked the black and white to clolor design of the Pedal to Metal card also.

I give this a 4.75/5 stars for collation and pulls

A 4/5 stars for the overall set (cause of the kid gloves needed to handle cards)

well i got the odds...but hardly anything of my drivers which sucks, i hate the idea of the planes and the drivers motorcycles and cars..i'm kinda upset that most of the cards are not drivers

i like the inserts to a degree: i don't know why jarrett and waltrip are in the inserts, they haven't been doing anything

Overall I did a little better than the published odds. Combined Race Used and Autograph are 2:80 or 2.5% and I hit 6.25% (5:80). The one pack out of box two that had four transparent inserts was odd. I knew something was up from the thickness. I was hoping for something really thick and race used but it wasn’t to be. I’m not disappointed in the overall pulls because I beat the odds. Still, TWO Waltrip race used out of four boxes? Please. Does he have any fans left? http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif I’m sure he does so I’ve got great trade bait for down the road. Received a total of 202 cards out of total advertised 200 cards in packs. Each box had 1 extra card. I pretty much hit or did better on the odds so I am pretty happy.

As for the design and concept, I like the design of the base set and like most of the photos, but do not care for cards #40-48...VIP Rides and AIR NASCAR. I just don't care what the drivers are flying in or driving other than their NASCAR cars. The card stock does seem thinner than past VIP issues as someone already mentioned. The cards seem more fragile...I like them a bit thicker. The design reminds me of Premium a bit with the color photos in the foreground with black/white photos in the background on cards #1-32. I think those are cool and really have nothing negative about the remaining parts of the base set. Thank goodness they put the SPs at the end of the set again.

I like the transparent cards (both Trophy Club and Gear Gallery). They seemed to be my favorites in the set. I think they would have been fine with just those as the base insert instead of having a parallel set. I really liked the design of the Gallery Gear, but the card could have been black, white, or other colors...anything besides silver foil. There's just way too much foil. Same thing with the Sunday's Best...too much foil. I think the card design was OK with those, but didn't seem too unique. I generally liked the Trophy Club cards, but have to agree that driver selection in this set was not well thought out (I agree that Jarrett and Waltrip should not be in that set...they could have done a Sunday's Worst insert set and put them and a few other drivers in there. :sign0020:.

I like the Get A Grip cards...not too simple but not too gaudy.

So I beat the over all r/u & autos per stated by the one. So I have to be happy with that. Not so happy about not getting at least one more base set minus rookies or two even. Have like 2 or more of each base card left over except for a couple missing cards and they are like for weird cards. Go figure. Unhappy also about no sunday best set (I am shocked about that and was quite a few shy to make the set and missing drivers were not even the popular ones, go figure) or trophy set. For collation of the boxes I give it 3.5 of 5 stars for pull ratio r/u & auto I give it 4.3/4 of 5 stars just becuz I got an extra goodie in mine. As I had read some others had too but also some bad? boxes as well.
For design, over all it was nice on the base (even if a bit on the thin side), the trans were by far the best so far. But too much foil on the SB's & Gallerys. Glad I read some posts first so knew to handle by edges only till got into sorted & into sleeves. So only a 3 of 5 stars for design & quality. (are we suppose to rate quality?)

But a big thanks to Les as always as it is much appreciated what he does for us and how much he puts into these case breaks for us.

Then pack 17 dropped out the Johnson GGD. I was more then ecstatic at that point. I guess that box was well worth having 18 more base duplicates then the first.

Noteables on box 3 - This box as well only produced 1 duplicate base card. All odds were hit on everything else, and then some. So i wasn't complaining at all.
Pack 14 or 15 contained the Rookie Stripes of Menard.

Overall I'd have to say this release was pretty good. I'm not a set collector, but seeing 2 of the 3 boxes only produced 1 duplicate, that's a serious plus in my book. I think another plus to this release was all the new pictures from the 07 season. The card stock may be a tad thinnner then previous years but I don't think that hurts in the quality of the graphics on the card. The coating on the card I think is a lil to glossy, but it does help bring out the vibrance in colors. I'll also go along with others that are saying "too much foil". It shouldn't be used as a background. I think it's purpose should be to accent the card, not dominate it. The Transparent cards are always nice to see as a subset, and this years Gear Gallery really stand out. Nice job on those. All three types of race used show similarites to other releases, but yet still have original qualities that make them stand out. The Gear Gripper set must be rather lengthey if Johnson is card #29.....


This release was well worth the price of admission. I don't collect sets, so I was only after my personal collection needs of Harvick, and some trade bait to help me work on my Eclipse sets. To see both the Harvick gear gallery cards in the same pack was a surprise, but to back that up with a SWEET looking dual raced used card of Harvicks just made my day. It was well worth the wait.


Also have to thank Les for making all this possible. This man goes the extra step to help all of us racing junkies get our fix when needed. he's a very rare breed, and one of the few that bring this whole hobby together. A tried and true honest man that should be prasied for all he does

My thoughts on this release:

Base cards, as always a nice design, could do without the (personal)cars and planes, but still a nice set. Not too thrilled with the flimsier card stock this year.

Inserts:

Sunday's Best, too much foil, leaves fingerprint marks too easily, even when holding by the edges. Not sure why the Kahne and Stremme (maybe others?) don't have the pattern on them?


Like the look of the Gear Gallery, except for the foil, too easy to leave fingerprints on, and they are not easy to clean off.

Trophy club is a nice set (again except for the foil) but would have been nice to be consistent with the photography, should have been able to find pictures of all the drivers holding their trophies.


Get A Grip, nice look, but Press Pass needs to look at the In the Game (hockey) releases. They have good size swatches.

Rookie Stripes, a nice clean design.

Overall I rate this release as 4 of 5 stars for content and design (1 off for too much foil) and 3 of 5 for collation (only 1 complete base set, and NO other SP/insert sets complete from 4 boxes).

I will try to post my wants and traders soon.
