I picked up the first hobby box in three months today at the shop of 2007 WAT. Here is the breakdown:
base: 81/83 cards for the base set--no doubles
inserts:
10/25 Starting grid--Dale Jr., Gordon, Martin the big ones
4/12 American Dream--Dale Jr., Gordon, Kenseth, Ky. Busch
2/9 American Muscle--Kenseth, JJ
2 NASCAR Comics??? I thought they were to be in Traks ONLY!!!
1 Thunder Road--marlin
1 contest card
the good stuff:
Race used:
Triple hat: Jarrett 49/99 black/black/brown
Cool Threads; martin 233/299 black
autos:
Kurt Busch Thunder Strokes
David Gilliland Rookie Thunder Auto--WARNING!!! this card is a redemption, so who knows how long they will take?
DISLIKES: I am not looking forward to sending off for the Gilliland, but it beats not having one at all. I just hope they didn't do the rest of them like that.
I wasn't happy either with the design of the set, too busy for me with the either the strong colors (cards 1-36) or too much foil (37-49). Looks like the sets in 06...and 05...and 04...
LIKES: I did like the designs of the inserts sets, especially the Starting Grid set being die cut to the driver's number. I even liked the designs of the race used cards as well; clean, crisp, promoting the swatch(es), not the driver.
to be two cards short of a base set is great. Now if they had them instead of the comics cards...
ratings: box: 4.5/5 stars set; 4/5 stars. Retire the design of the set, at least for a while.
On a personal note, it is great to be busting wax again, even if isn't the multi-box busts I was accustomed to in the past. But with Lauren (my daughter) beign born, the following maternity leave (about three months worth) and the following move into her parents' house, cards went to the backburner.
