Definately not! I know that others may think so and it is just because there teams are perennial losers. Hey, I know how you feel, Im a huge Cubs fan... I really believe that baseball should be left alone and that teams should spend there money wisely. A lot of teams in the past and of now try to buy a team and it proves nothing as they still lose.... If an owner is willing to spend the bucks let him, this is a free enterprise system and regulating salaries is a step in the wrong direction IMHO.. I know people think parity is great and thats what they like about the NFL but I personally dont. Whats the matter with a dynasty.? Whats the matter with seeing a team that is superstar loaded with no basic scrub players?? Yes, I wish the Cubs would spend a little more $$ but hey there the Cubs...

just wanted some opinions so i brought this back up.... i believe they should have a salary cap so we can see all teams playing on a level field although it is fun to see teams like the marlins to beat the yankees who pay a lot more out

Screw the salary cap. Owners should take a lesson from George Steinbrenner, John Henry, etc. Spend and you'll win. Too many of baseball's owners shove the money into other ventures and have a low payroll. Even if there is a cap the owners still won't spend. What's more important to baseball is a salary floor. It should be around 75 million. That's plenty to field a contending team yearly. The teams that are serious about winning spend money or find other ways to do it (i.e. Oakland, Minnesota).

John Henry? LOL... the Red Sox spend but have yet to win anything of importance.

yes. the game has gotten out of hand and the players get way too much money for the least physical of major contact sports: football, hockey, basketball

25 mil a year?? a joke ppl that work year round deserve that money when they have a harder job and make 400k

lol..

Angels won in 2002
Marlins won in 2003

both had team salaries ranging in the middle of the pack

Lets see-

The Angels failed to qualify for the play offs in 2003 and finished ahead of only the lowly Rangers.

I have serious doubt that Florida will make the play offs in '04.

Meanwhile the Yankees have made the play offs every year since 1995. Four of those years the Yankees were the champions. In 1997 Florida won with a high payroll of hired all stars.

Yes, the short term has proved that teams with low payrolls can win but how many actually do? The Pirates, Brewers, Expos, etc. with low pay rolls can't seem to win- ever.
