We're looking for input on how we can improve the Hockey Trading Forum.
Please post any ideas you have here. The hockey staff will discuss these ideas and implement the ones that we think will improve the forum.

Thanks for any input...

for a newbie like myself i think when someone posts - if they know it can they posost the book value and if they dont and someone else does can they add it.
find being a newbie and looking to trade i have no idea what a card is worth......

thanks for the input. when everyone gets their "my card inventory" updated, that will have BV's listed. it will be a while before most folks get their stuff in there, but that will help.
thanks again and we'll see what else we can do.

you can also sign up for a free account at www.beckett.com

Here you can look up individual Card values for a certain card, only downside unless you pay for the PriceGuides is that you can only do 1 card at a time.

Can you make it absolutely clear to NEWBIES that they must send first. for the first ?many trades or they can stop wasting our time on our site. I found this year really bad for new people just trying to come here and try to get a quick rip off.

gretzky99

habs - that's actually a site-wide issue. i believe everyone with under 20 feedback automatically has to send first. they may not have a tag, but if you agree to a trade, it comes up in the trade manager that they have to send first.
part of the problem is many of the established members aren't asking new members send first. there is nothing we can do about that.

also, i would suggest putting something in your sig stating that anyone that trades with you that has > than so many feedback needs to send first. that really helped me out when i did it.

You're Joking correct? I am down to the lowest number of cards in my trading in the last 15 years, however I am now down to about 15,000 cards. How on Earth would I possibly live long enough to post that many cards the way you have the inventory set up? It would take me over 2 years at 10 hours per day.

Now what happens if I want to get my inventory back to the way it was at around 75,000 cards? I will never use your inventory form as it's far too complicated and restrictive.

If you take away the Old Option of trading and only use the Inventory method, then everyone will quit, & the site will be a Ghost Town.

I'm sorry, but the Inventory Form is only a step forward if you have less than 50 cards.

you can still use the old way of trading. there's an option in the trade system for that if you would rather.

I'd like to see a pop-up with the decription of the trade in the trade manager when you point at the trade ID number. Just like when you point at a title in the forums. It would save alot of navigating from page to page when you have lots of trades on the go.

Hey, I was wondering. Isn't there a rule about trading cards you don't have in hand?

2FarGone
01-21-2008, 12:31 PM
Fact is there is just such a rule. All cards to be traded or sold must be in hand to conduct any deals.

habslover
01-21-2008, 12:33 PM
I see alot of people with buckets that say INCOMMING. I have had a couple of trade go bad because the trader didn't have or get the card.

Contact a hockey staff member if you see users trying to move incoming cards...

I'm probably one of those people you are talking about, but I'm not trading them. I'll set up a tentative trade, and let the person know the card is not in yet, but I never post it.

What I would like to know, is why people ask "since you are a new trader, do you mind sending first" or why those new traders get mad when asked to do so. Is this not a rule as well? Isn't that why there is an exclamation mark with these words bolded: "_______ is a new trader and must send first!" when you make a trade?

gretzky99
01-21-2008, 03:06 PM
it is a rule, but i always like to make sure folks know they need to send first. also, if they are new they may not know the rule so it's good to let folks know up front.

as far as trading incoming cards, flyshyts is right in that it is against the rules. i think it's ok to talk about what you have coming in, but no deals can be agreed to in the trade manager until cards are in hand.

What about a forum only for base cards, everybody have tons of those. On this kind of forum it could be good for team collector or even player collector. It could help people to get rid of some of those bases.

gretzky99
01-21-2008, 03:20 PM
we do have a player collector forum, so that would be a good place to trade base. it is now better organized and is much easier to use.

Is it just me or what, but every time I go in that forum, it's always sorted by Thread Name, unlike the other forums, which are sorted by last post???

Yea I go to there and click on "last post" to find who posted last on threads.

yes, that is how they re-organized the list. that way you aren't looking by last post but by alphabetical order.

We have a set building section for that now. As well as player/team collector section.Believe me I have over 125,000 cards and the majority is all base.I'm slowly starting to add them to the set building section to help others complete there needs...

if you are going to enforce a 12 hour bump rule you need to limit the amount of posts a person can bump. if i have 8 or 10 posts open and bump them all.. i have just taken up half the front page.. now everyone that just bumped has to wait 12 hours to see the top of the board agian

gretzky99
01-22-2008, 10:06 AM
i agree. there are always ways around rules so we need to figure out what to do about it. i know one thing we encourage members is to combine multiple threads into one. it's something the staff needs to figure out. if you think hockey is bad, you should see the football boards.

Hey, wanted to know why trades that take longer to complete, seem to disappear from the traders trade list. Then when you do find it you can't get it back to your list.

hazmatman
01-24-2008, 03:30 PM
I have the same problem... I don't know how many trades I've lost track of because they've gone missing from the trade manager.

gretzky99
01-24-2008, 04:31 PM
you can still look them up. if you go to "list trades" in the user cp, you'll see all of your trades. there is a drop down box in the upper right where you can see all your completed trades, pending trades, etc.

habslover
01-25-2008, 03:31 AM
I tried that and the two trades I speak of still are not in there.

gretzky99

really? i can try and look them up for you. can you let me know who they were with and when they were approximately?

if its a long post its alot of scrolling to edit

I actually have a question on this note. You note "newbies", but...Is the fact that someone has more than 20 trades here the only reason to say they can be trusted?

As a member who has been reasonably active on the boards for a year (yes, I transferred from STC, nonetheless), does that not count for something?

At this rate I would send first here for the next 10 years, and I've already been trading hockey cards on-line for almost 12 years...so not really a "newbie" in my mind.

Just wondering. I can understand a new guy who's been here two weeks or whatnot, but thinking there could be more to consider in this :confused0024:

gretzky99
01-29-2008, 10:04 PM
if you had feedback at STC and came over in the merger, we can take that feedback into account here. staff have the ability to take off MSF tags if they are established on an affiliated site. so lmk what kind of feedback you had and if there is anyone here on staff that you know that i can talk to. i'm not sure if we have those feedback numbers, but i'll check.

snowkat
01-29-2008, 10:13 PM
My feedback from STC was transferred successfully. I'm not sure which sites are affiliated, so can't really answer on that note yet.

gretzky99
01-29-2008, 10:27 PM
so you only had 2 feedback at STC? like most other places, the only concrete way to measure traders is feedback. of course someone could make 20 little trades and then rip someone off on their 21st. but in general number of trades is the best way we have come up with to evaluate traders.

snowkat
01-29-2008, 10:43 PM
Okay, well as I asked: Which sites are affiliated so that feedback from those sources could be considered?

Like I said after 12 years I've got trade feedback from numerous places, but don't know which will count...

gretzky99
01-29-2008, 10:48 PM
i think just TR and STC. basically any site owned by Mike (the owner here). if you have a lot of feedback somewhere else that might come into play.

This site seems to be a lot better then Beckett but seems to have less people. This is my first night on the boards but it seems like that to me. I am going to tell everyone about the site, hopefully more people will come!!!!! Much better boards and overall site. I am glad I was informed about it.

scf is way better than beckett... no comparison... especially with the trade manager setup... way easier to track trades, feedback, etc.
Tell everyone... I'm draining this site of Flyers cards... lol

Hello,

here's my idea, which is always a big problem for me. If I have a card and I want to trade/sell it, I have to go through about 100 threads to find someone who need that card. All the other 100 posts are "offering" not looking for. This makes my thing always harder. I know I'm a new guy, but how's that if you make a detailed thread e.g. Looking for/I have this to trade. I want to sell/I want to buy thrads.
I know, the player/team thread is for specially this, but this is confusing for me in te hockey trading.

Just an idea

is there a way to delete a thread that i have started. i started several threads in the set building forum, but have since finished these sets, it would be nice if i could just delete them and have them gone from the forum. then no one would have to browse through out of date threads.

i would just suggest to make a final post saying "please close thread" as we have someone that looks over that forum and will close the thread when it's done.
he's also just started cleaning up the forum, so it should start thinning out a bit.

I do not know if this a feature on this site or not, so if it is PLMK...

But I would like to see a "Note Taking" feature on our profile. Like on online poker, I can take notes on my apposing players. I really enjoy searching peoples buckets for would be trades and I have a TON of little post it notes all over my desk...lol. If I could just type in my "Notes" section that Person A has a card that I want, or Person B needs cards that I have...

I hope that makes sense....

gretzky99

I'd like to see more club action, possibly divisions. Like when someone joins SCF, they say where there from, and from there they can choose a division. For US, West coast, Central, East coast. You know what I mean? Do the same for Canada and Europe too.

Any progress on a wants sub-forum?

I've always thought these would make the most sense, one sub-forum For Trade, and one sub-forum for Wanted in Trade, making searches far more valuable.
