Blue Jays look pretty good this year, esp. with that offense of theirs.

They also beat the Angels 4 out of 5 as well.

Perhaps a sign that the Blue Jays are a team to be reckoned with come August/Sept?

Joe Carter ---- ahhh, who'll ever forget that mammoth homer he hit?!

Is he a future hall-of-famer?

No Carter is not a HOFamer.

Too borderline IMO.

Carter is not a Hall of Famer, that's the only "great" thing he did during his career.

Secondly, Clemens gets his 300th today, and the Yankees will do well these coming few weeks. They're just in a slump and they'll snap out of it. Mark my word.

pwaldo...I would agree with you on Joe Carter.

But, he had pretty good stats, and was a very good guy during his career...the anti-Albert Belle.

That should count for something, shouldn't it?

No.

He only had 396 Career HRS with a BA of .259.

Not that steller. He was good but not great.

hmmmmm, a much lower statistics that I had thought (I was expecting him in the 0.285 BA and mid 400s in homers)

I wondered why he retired so early?

I too thought he had better stats than that.

He played 16 years so its not like he didn't play that long.

hmmm, 16 years and less than 400 homers? That's what, less than 25 homers averaged per year?

On second thought, I'd have to say he's below par for the Hall, even if he had that spectacular clutch hit.

Same for Kirk Gibson --- this guy was a monster in the clutch (won 1984 title with Tigers, hit the homer in 1988 and won title with Dodgers, despite only having that one at-bat in World Series). But his overall stats were just average. I loved his intensity.

If Canseco and Sierra had that intensity, they'd be headed for the Hall.

Gibson and Carter were average. Nothing special, I don't think either will be in the Hall. Only known for postseason heroics.

Tim, very true.

But, I'd rather be Gibson, and known for my Playoffs and World Series heroics, which will forever be immortalized (esp. that game winning homer off Eckersley in game 1 1988 World Series)......

Than to be Don Mattingly, for instance

Me too. Mattingly is a forgotten name to many people, though a great player in an age when the Yankees weren't that good. I'd rather be known for heroics than like a Mattingly, too.
