My girlfriend and I took a little trip to Secaucus, NJ to go to this little card show which featured a bunch of Yankees and some other baseball greats. I was able to get Bob Gibson, Mike Stanley, Darryl Strawberry (who was very nice), Paul O'Neill, and Graig Nettles on baseballs. She got Stanley, O'Neill, Bobby Murcer, and Goose Gossage.
The players were very nice and I saw Wilson Betemit get stopped by a young kid and the two of them chatted away. He was pretty cool considering he was on his way out.
The event itself would have been better if there was some order to it. In the beginning things went smoothly but then everyone showed up for O'Neill, Gossage, and Tim McCarver among others. It got crazy. Order broke down and a few collectors and myself passed the time by chatting up our collections. Finally they restored a bit of order and things went ok from there.
I picked up Melky Cabrera, Robinson Cano, and Brandon Webb baseballs from some of the vendors. I also got a Mark Bavaro signed mini-helmet and got a Will Peterson (former Giant current Eagle) for the cost of the helmet. The vendors were pretty good and had a few deals and some were willing to negotiate which is always nice.
If anyone else went let me know what you thought. This was my first show in a looooong time. I had a good time for the most part, but I do hate crowds like that.
