View Full Version : pistons fire carlisle
gioperation 05-31-2003, 02:13 AM Fifty victories. A spot in the Eastern Conference finals. It just was not enough to earn a third season in Detroit.
Rick Carlisle has been fired as head coach of the Pistons after two seasons, he told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher late Friday.
Carlisle's Pistons went 50-32 this season, the best record in the East. Detroit advanced to the conference finals before getting swept by the Nets.

podstock 05-31-2003, 03:42 AM wow, I am shocked!
The Pistons totally over-achieved the last 2 seasons, and Carlisle got canned?
Who the hell do the Pistons have, outside of Ben Wallace?!?!?
I mean, the coach for the Celtics just got an extension for several more years, and the Celtics have BOTH Walker and Pierce. Celtics totally UNDER-achieved.
what a shame.
Carlisle won't have a problem getting a job. The Clippers are looking, lolol
gioperation 05-31-2003, 04:34 AM listening to espn the radio, they say now that the report is unconfirmed that they have spoke with the pistons and they deny it, but carlisle has a press conf for tommorrow. carlisle is saying he doesn't know whether he wants to stay in coaching per his agent.
wdwain 05-31-2003, 05:01 AM I think it's a bad move on the Pistons part to get rid of Carlisle! They are a good team and they have a good group of young players.
I agree Carlisle will have no problem finding another coaching job.
Victory Sports 05-31-2003, 06:55 AM the pistons have rip, chauncey, and now soon to be darko, besides ben.
IggyWH 05-31-2003, 01:12 PM ESPN.com is now saying Larry Brown will be given the job on Monday :

Well that's the only reason why I could see them firing him.
Larry Brown is a great coach.
But the Pistons did not have that much talent and they did the best they could.
He will have no problem finding a job somewhere else.
Qball76 05-31-2003, 01:28 PM I was shocked to hear that they fired him for as well as the Pistons did this year considering what they had to work with...I'm sure he won't have much of a problem finding another job, if he wants one....
RedMania 05-31-2003, 01:35 PM i am shocked too, wow
podstock 05-31-2003, 04:03 PM wouldn't it be great irony if the Sixers hired Carlisle, and the Sixers destroy the Pistons in next year's playoffs?
Sixers have better talent than Pistons..if only the Sixers weren't injured
gioperation 05-31-2003, 04:55 PM the GM's in new orleans and detroit are dumb, silas'; team made the playoff's every year he was there, and was building a very good team, and so was the pistons, I understand they want to go all the way, but you must have all the pieces together to go all the way, larry brown in a good coach, but he didn't go all the way, you take away iverson desire, and they had crap for a team.

Your point there is exactly why everyone is currently high on Brown. Everyone knows Philly has jack and he took them to the Finals the one year.

yeah I guess you got a point, I thought about that but never mentioned it, but does that mean he is going to take another team to the promise land, how many rings does he have as a coach, don't get me wrong I like Brown. I hope silas ends up in philly.
