View Full Version : Who's your favorite MMA fighter? Enigma 07-16-2008, 06:13 PM Real simple...who's your fave and why? Be respectful of everyone's opinion... UGAdawg 07-16-2008, 06:16 PM mine has to be Anderson Silva just like the inovative ways he uses to knock the crap out of people, he'll use his elbows and knees almost more than he punches, also like Tito Ortiz too because of his toughness and even though he hasnt been doing to good lately he's still a great fighter. BTW thanks to SCF to making this forum! sportzluvr1 07-16-2008, 06:18 PM alex sauer....great fighter......really quick too! Norball79 07-16-2008, 06:30 PM Urijah Faber! Awesome pound for pound fighter. Norball79 07-16-2008, 06:32 PM oops i messed up theproudestmonkey 07-16-2008, 06:44 PM man, thats the crazy thing about individual sports, especially combat sports - really tough for me to pick favorites (i just wanna see good fights) here are a few that i try not to miss though: Urijah Faber - nothing he cant do.....world class wrestler with solid BJJ / MT skills, powerful striker, and tough as nails Rashad Evans - a flat out beast, one of the most powerful strikers ive seen in MMA, and currently undefeated (look out Forrest) BJ Penn - he's got it all.....quick as hell, his ju jitsu is sick and he'll knock you out if ya wanna punch with him......by far the best at 155 in the UFC, although id pay $75 to see Penn/Faber fight!!! Spencer Fisher - always liked The King.....tough kid, stand up striker who's not afraid to stand toe to toe with anyone. i could go on and on.....honestly, the list of guys i hate is much shorter than those i like.....other than Tito, Rich Franklin, and Matt Hughes there are very few guys i dont like smejus57 07-16-2008, 06:48 PM Always been a Rampage fan back to his Pride days. I also like Anderson Silva. IMO, the best P4P fighter around. We'll see how he does Saturday when he moves up a weight class. Finally, will agree with monkey, BJ Penn. What doesn't he excel at in the ring, and he's crazy! Any predications on this weekends fights? Fedor or Tim? Anderson Silva or James Irvin? theproudestmonkey 07-16-2008, 06:55 PM i love how they are hyping up the silvia/fedor fight as "the greatest fight card ever"......lol, really?? silva will kill irvin despite moving up......irvin is too one dimensional to stand a chance against silva - he knows not to get caught with anything to put him in danger.....really excited to see how the spider does against the elite light heavy's though!! the crazy thing about penn is how much he's improved and still continues to improve sch1tz0fr3nik 07-16-2008, 07:45 PM I'll toss a Name out there I havent seen yet... Chris Leben...He is a beast, That fight with Cote won me over. I cant wait to see Fedor Destroy Silvia, I hate that Guy...Tim Silvia Is Boring, Period capt55 07-16-2008, 08:08 PM CHUCKIE, Thanks konerkocollector 07-16-2008, 08:35 PM My favorite - Matt "The Hammer" Hamill. The guy is true class, which leads me to my least favorite.... Michael Bisping! After their fight, Hamill did the right thing. Bisping knew he lost that fight. The entire MMA community was outraged over the decision, yet he actually stood there and acted as if he easily won! I lost all respect for the guy after that! JammingJames23 07-16-2008, 09:00 PM Georges St. Pierre. He's simply an exciting all-around fighter with a great attitude and work ethic. I always enjoy every one of his fights. bigevil1985 07-16-2008, 09:10 PM I'm my favorite Pro fight. No joke. tyler91999 07-16-2008, 09:24 PM Anderson Silva hands down. Simply amazing. He will win by tap on Saturday. Like Rampage very funny....but I think he needs to learn how to drive a little better :ashamed0001: I also like Clay Guida....Just love his style ....all or nothing tmoneywon 07-16-2008, 10:03 PM Rampage was my favorite for a long time, loved him in Pride. His pure brutality, picking guys up slamming on their heads. Technically probably Sakuraba, again was a huge pride fan. Back in the day Mark Coleman was my guy, first I'm a OSU fan and live in OHio, but he perfected the ground and pound. Too bad many of my favorites are either retired or on the downside of their careers. Matt Huges, Ken Shamrock, Tito Ortiz (in his prime just amazing), Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, and also in his prime Gary Goodrich. Of all the current guys, Anderson Silva St-Pierre and Penn, I like them all. Don't see Silva getting beat anytime soon, just insane skills. But I like BJ Penn, not only his skills but his personality. I would love to see him and and Pulver go at again, but Pulver's better days are behind him. bigevil1985 07-16-2008, 10:13 PM Gary Goodrich. I would totally agree. but his prime lasted about 3 fights. JammingJames23 07-17-2008, 07:03 AM Like Rampage very funny....but I think he needs to learn how to drive a little better :ashamed0001: Say no to cellphones! :sign0020: I've watched the UFC since 1995, so here are a few old favorites as well: Royce Gracie, of course (mom and the fiance have hilarious debates over how Royce would fare if he were in his prime today; admittedly, the UFC had different rules and skillsets in the early days), Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Kimo, Bas Rutten, Vitor Belfort, Pat Miletich, Kevin Randleman, Tito Ortiz (I know he just fought, but he hasn't been dominant for a few years), Randy Couture angel0430 07-17-2008, 12:26 PM I'll have to go with The Iceman theproudestmonkey 07-17-2008, 01:58 PM Say no to cellphones! :sign0020: I've watched the UFC since 1995, so here are a few old favorites as well: Royce Gracie, of course (mom and the fiance have hilarious debates over how Royce would fare if he were in his prime today; admittedly, the UFC had different rules and skillsets in the early days), Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Kimo, Bas Rutten, Vitor Belfort, Pat Miletich, Kevin Randleman, Tito Ortiz (I know he just fought, but he hasn't been dominant for a few years), Randy Couture i break out my old ufc tapes all the time!! i think royce would be dominant today, but maybe not as dominant as he was in the mid 90s....his BJJ was one of the best EVER!!!......just so much more quality trained talent out there today (hell, 1/2 of those guys you mentioned run some of the most successful camps in mma) i loved the old school ufc.....bare knuckles, no round-breaks, legal knees to the head on the ground......some crazy fights!!! stynga 07-22-2008, 07:15 AM Nick Diaz and BJ Penn still a fan of Igor too Aharvey 07-22-2008, 09:37 PM Got to go with Faber. He a great all around fighter. I like Silva too though. windmortal 07-22-2008, 10:41 PM My favorites are Gonzaga, Stout, Swick, J. Rivera, Edgar, M. Davis, MacDonald, Arianny and Edith ... met them all in march in Ohio. Also like Shonie Carter. Met him at UFC 77 in Cincinatti (along with Jorge Gurgel) and saw him again in Columbus at UFC 82. MrMojo 07-22-2008, 10:50 PM The Ice Man izzyfiles 07-22-2008, 11:05 PM I guess I will be the first to say it. My favorite is Forrest Griffin, the dude is awesome. All his fights are exciting, he leaves it all in the ring everytime, dude bleeds with the best of them. Glad he is the champ now!!! etmill01 07-23-2008, 12:03 AM The Ice Man He is my favorite too...Thanks Ed fdgowin 07-23-2008, 12:17 AM Wow, don't know how I missed this thread! I've been an MMA fan since day one of the UFC. Before the UFC started, there were a couple of guys I liked to watch fight - one being "Bad" Brad Hefton, and Joe Lewis. I wrestled in a tournament in college with Bob Golic the year he finished 3rd in the NCAAs at heavyweight. (before the Browns drafted him!) So, I'm really glad that wrestlers can continue their love beyond college. My dislike list is definitely shorter than my favorites. It will be interesting to see how this board goes. Definitely a lot more civil than most of the MMA forums, where literacy seems to rate below obscenities and personal attacks. fdgowin ensbergcollector 07-23-2008, 12:46 AM yeah, thanks scf for this section of the site. favorite fighters: forrest griffin - fun to watch. even if he loses, you know it will be entertaining. rampage - his slams in pride were amazing!! gsp, faber, anderson silva: all equally amazing guys I love to root against: penn - the guys attitude just bothers me (does not take away his amazing skill!!) rashad - has there ever been a guy who won more split decisions? JammingJames23 07-23-2008, 01:19 AM I have to admit that I don't particularly care for B.J. Penn either for the same reasons that ensberg outlines above, but he seemed classier in his latest victory at least.. fdgowin - sorry to hear that about other MMA forums. I like it here on SCF too, especially after seeing what basketballforum.com has become for basketball fans (ick). adam334581 07-23-2008, 03:56 PM Anderson Silva! cards4good_edawg 07-25-2008, 06:09 PM Great thread! Favorites: Karo Parisyan-just "tough" and I love the throws St. Pierre-incredibly well-rounded, can do anything BJ Penn-sick Ju-Jitsu, dude uses submissions like he has two sets of hands. (I also like the guy who won the last UF (Amir Sadollah), he was/is so composed and calm, for a young fighter.) Charlie Hustle 07-26-2008, 02:12 PM I like Clay Guida and Uriah Faber. basketball fiend 07-26-2008, 05:17 PM gotta go with the the local boy......BJ PENN also vitor belfort (when he first came out) fedor emalienenko ( simply unstopable!) br.ett 07-26-2008, 05:19 PM Anderson Silva...withoutta doubt hector234 08-07-2008, 09:32 PM #1) DAN HENDERSON #2) Sean Sherk #3) Takanori Gomi #4) Mauricio "Shogun" Rua #5) Randy Couture OMG QUAAAADS 09-08-2008, 12:55 PM gsp because he will never lose again jamesrud7380 09-08-2008, 06:12 PM George St. Pierre and Fedor. roundhouse 09-10-2008, 02:34 AM Gotta go with fellow nuck..GSP !! all the tools also Tito Ortiz ,i know he yaps a lot and his best days are behind him ..but the dude could bring it back in the day ..besides someone needs to be the bad guy. Forrest Griffen- really how can anyone not like Forrest. The UFC should market this guy to the moon ..nothing but class. end of the day,i enjoy the sport, all these guys are warriors, i just want to see a good fight ,and in the end hope nobody gets seriously hurt. hector234 09-10-2008, 04:10 AM Favorite fighter of all-time http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x219/zakk20/DAN.jpg 2nd favorite fighter http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x219/zakk20/sherk.jpg souperman79 09-12-2008, 01:48 PM Well I have just recently started watching and following MMA and I would have to say GSP and Rashad Evans are my favs. Watching Evans knock the snot out of Liddell was CRAZY! I grew up watching boxing and never saw a KO like that, unreal. Can't wait to get my Upper Deck MMA box, thanks to Enigma for that! minnesotamaniac 09-15-2008, 02:15 PM I like Clay Guida and Uriah Faber. YYEEAAHH! Yes. Herring beat Kongo at UFC 81. minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 12:42 AM o ok, im kinda interested in the couture lesnar fight in a couple months hector234 09-18-2008, 12:44 AM o ok, im kinda interested in the couture lesnar fight in a couple months It should be good. Couture has the experience and more skills, but Lesnar is a beast. I would love to see Faber fight Kid Yamamoto minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 12:44 AM ok im not sure who that is, fill me in hector234 09-18-2008, 12:51 AM ok im not sure who that is, fill me in Youtube him, he's a featherweight from Japan. Either him, or Takanori Gomi, but I think Gomi would kill Faber :winking0071: minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 12:52 AM really? hector234 09-18-2008, 12:52 AM really? Gomi is a beast. He was the PRIDE lightweight champ. Look him up on youtube, he's a beast. I like Faber though, just wish WEC had more comp for him minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 12:56 AM yamamoto dances just as much as silva haha hector234 09-18-2008, 12:56 AM yamamoto dances just as much as silva haha Did you ever see Silva's fights in PRIDE? He was so raw then, I remember Ryo Chonnan made him tap with a heel hook :sign0020: minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 12:58 AM gomi has some vicious knees man, yeah id love to see my boy fight them itd be great minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 12:58 AM Did you ever see Silva's fights in PRIDE? He was so raw then, I remember Ryo Chonnan made him tap with a heel hook :sign0020: nah i never saw any of his pride stuff hector234 09-18-2008, 12:59 AM gomi has some vicious knees man, yeah id love to see my boy fight them itd be great He's got sick punching. He knocked out Pulver and Sakurai buffalo5edwards 09-18-2008, 12:59 AM Rashad Evans. He's from the Buffalo area and can throw a hell of a punch (Chuck Lidell would agree), so I have to root for him. After Evans it has to be Silva. I just love how he fights. minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 01:01 AM He's got sick punching. He knocked out Pulver and Sakurai dana needs to get them in the wec hector234 09-18-2008, 01:05 AM dana needs to get them in the wec :sign0020: Gomi won't join UFC or W.E.C. They've tried for a long time. He'd rather stay in Japan. He would be sick in the UFC, im sure he can give BJ Penn a good fight. I know UFC is also trying to get Fedor, but I doubt that will ever happen. Unless they offer him an insane contract. minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 01:06 AM whats fedor gonna do when affliction tanks...cause it will hector234 09-18-2008, 01:08 AM whats fedor gonna do when affliction tanks...cause it will Probably go to DREAMS or some other organization minnesotamaniac 09-18-2008, 01:08 AM ooic, why is everybody hating on ufc/wec? hector234 09-18-2008, 01:15 AM ooic, why is everybody hating on ufc/wec? They need to add a featherweight division mmacollector 09-23-2008, 09:11 AM Sakuraba badkins95 12-06-2008, 12:46 PM Do you have any Chuck Lidell???????????? badkins95 12-06-2008, 12:48 PM Because my dad works for MMA. He designs Cage Fighter, MMA, and Roman Glatitoria clothing for the fighters and etc. and I really want to get him a Chuck Lidell auto for X-Mas. moxon4 12-11-2008, 12:43 AM Josh Koscheck for sure. I like Urijah Faber as well so i'd def say those 2. Koscheck had an AMAZING knockout tonight on the fightforthetroops UFC Spike TV event. If u havent seen it then i highly recommend it! batista007 02-24-2009, 05:49 PM Im going to have to say my favorites are UFC- GSP, classy guy I know the vaseline scandal vs penn but who knows I still thing gsp would of kicked his butt anywase. Affliction- Fedor best heavyweight of all time. Strikeforce- Frank Shamrock as a bay area guy this guy is awesome WEC- Uriah Faber again local guy I pull for him he destroyed pulver in there last fight. NyFanCam01 02-24-2009, 05:50 PM tito !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TheMadOne 02-25-2009, 03:54 PM Fedor hands down. Best fighter of all time, best fighter pound for pound. Everybody made a big deal out of Anderson Silva going from 185 to 205 and winning vs. Irvin. Fedor has fought guys 10 inches taller, and 150 pounds heavier and NEVER been beat. He beat former UFC champs Tim Sylvia in 36 seconds, and KO'd Arlovski in 3 minutes of round 1. Paralakz 02-25-2009, 05:54 PM So this thread is mad old but it seems people are still posting on it. My favorite fighters are: Jon Jones - Great up and coming fighter, exponential growth between all of his fights and has potential to be a champion. Not to mention I've known him since I was about 12 :-D. Georges St. Pierre: Best pound for pound fighter in the world in my personal opinion. I think he is the only living man that with weight being equivalent could beat Anderson Silva in a fight. Forrest Griffin: Cocky little ******* eh? So good, could win his title back, maybe not though. Paralakz 02-25-2009, 05:56 PM Fedor hands down. Fedor has 1 loss. Paralakz 02-25-2009, 05:59 PM I don't know. I dislike how they dont make an effort to get Gomi, and Fedor, and other fighters like that Actually it's on Fedor... Dana has extended the first courtesy, he told Fedor "If you want to fight the best fighters in the world then come here". That's not direct but that was the point of his statement, Fedor has no interest in fighting the guys in the UFC. Don't get me wrong I think he'd be a champion there too... but I'll tell you this much... Brock Lesnar in two years will be able to beat him. Fedor is not a Super Athlete... he's a Super Fighter. Brock Lesnar has the POTENTIAL to be the best fighter IN THE WORLD. He's possibly the greatest living athlete, how many guys can make an NFL team, professionally wrestle, be a national champion in wrestling, and fight in the UFC. Guy could probably weight lift in the Olympics too. Paralakz 02-25-2009, 06:09 PM Im going to have to say my favorites are UFC- GSP, classy guy I know the vaseline scandal vs penn but who knows I still thing gsp would of kicked his butt anywase. Affliction- Fedor best heavyweight of all time. Strikeforce- Frank Shamrock as a bay area guy this guy is awesome WEC- Uriah Faber again local guy I pull for him he destroyed pulver in there last fight. Like all of your choices and just want to comment on the "vaseline scandal". It's not even close to a matter of opinion... GSP had about a zero percent chance of losing that fight and anyone that denies it is well... in denial. BJ is a great fighter... he just isn't at that super-athlete level though. The only people that are at that SUPER-ATHLETE level are: Urijah if he keeps improving... dude has amazing potential. GSP Rashad Anderson Silva Fedor The last two I'll seperate because though they're both amazing athletes... they're not the best they could be AT ALL. First of all Jon Jones. 9 months of MMA training before his first UFC fight... yeah friggin right man... Dude is a hometown hero and has ridiculous amounts of potential. Sup Stephan Bonnar!? Brock Lesnar - Made the Vikings team before an injury took him out because he missed practices. NCAA champion, UFC fighter. Now... the issue I have with Lesnar is this. Though he's a SUPER FREAK ATHLETE... he didn't deserve to be in title contention... I have no clue how you give him Randy Couture... yes he won... but that doesn't change the fight that there were other guys who deserved it more. Those are my picks for super athletes. Justin 02-25-2009, 07:30 PM Actually it's on Fedor... Dana has extended the first courtesy, he told Fedor "If you want to fight the best fighters in the world then come here". That's not direct but that was the point of his statement, Fedor has no interest in fighting the guys in the UFC. There was an article why Fedor has stayed away from the UFC. Dana wants to out and out own him. He would not be able to compete anywhere and that includes his beloved sambo. Fedor does not want to sign his soul away and I do not blame him. On a side note my favorite fighter is Dan Henderson. |
