is named the Charlotte Bobcats. Why didn't Bob Johnson just name them the Charotte Johnsons? This guy's an ego-maniac. At least if he named them the Johnsons he could have sold some condoms at the arena. Oh well!!!

Where did they come up with that name??? It should have been like the Charlotte Cougars or something like that.

It's supposed to be a play on owner Bob Johnson's name. The guy thinks his ish don't stink.

hey, I agree with you, but when you got the dough to shell out for a team, he can name it what he wants.

I am not a ego-maniac, but I would name the team "the Ryan's"...lol

It's better than the "Flight", like they were going to be called.

Let me get this straight; when the Charlotte Hornets were there, very few fans came (lots of fans first few years; then the music died).

So Charlotte moves to New Orleans, and the commish says that Charlotte can have another franchise?

huh?!?!?

Agreed! I think it's so odd how this seems to become the trend with franchises and sports moves...

Happened twice now in the NFL:

The Browns move to Baltimore... so Cleveland gets a new franchise.

The Oilers move to Tenessee... so Houston gets a new franchise.

If it didn't work there once, what makes you think it's gonna work there again?!?

Charlotte NBA fans are great fans, but they stopped coming to the games when it was apparent that their scumbag owner Shinn was ruining the team without caring about the city at all. They loved Muggsy, 'Zo, and LJ - but Shinn let the team collapse because he was cheap. I can't blame them for not caring anymore. Watch the fan base at the new team's games, I guarantee you they will be crazy. North Carolina is the best basketball hotbed out there (apologies to Indiana and high-school hoops).

LOL

I know the guy can name it what he wants but come on Bobcats. LOL

That's so unoriginal.

What was his final two names Bobcats and Wildcats and then he just flipped a coin?

The NBA doesn't need another franchise. They already have enough crappy teams that will never be any good.

Bobcat was the status you were given in cub scouts after completing a few good deeds, then came wolf, followed by bear.

I know with baseball, expansion teams lower the bar in quality players and home runs increase overall throughout MLB. How does an expansion team effect the NBA?

It makes the play of the game worse because there is not enough "quality" players.

If you add another team you need 5 more starters and when you look at how many teams lack good players you'll realize that they don't NEED another team.

Most teams don't even have enough big men to play center. They have power forwards playing that position.

an expansion team means that when the Lakers / Spurs are playing them, it's a boring game, with the outcome already decided before the tipoff

Bobcats isn't too bad. I like that better than Flight. Flight sounds like a WNBA team.

Just look at the Raptors and Grizzlies.

It has been years since they came into the league and they still can't compete.

Raptors at one time were good -- barely missed almost advancing to the Finals.

Then Vince Carter got hurt, missed games; McGrady was sent packing due to feud with Vince, and it was all downhill from there.

Grizzlies will come on strong. Jerry West orchestrated the Shaq / Kobe / Phil Jackson masterpiece (that's why he lives in the exclusive district of Bel Air -- West is that good!!). I think he will make them a playoff contender in about 2-3 more years.

by the way....

how is it that Kobe plays with hurt wrist, hurt shoulder, sprained ankle, etc. etc.

but Carter is out for the majority of the season?

I don't recall Carter having surgery? Or did he?

He does have a nice fat $110M multi-year deal with the Raptors, not to mention the endorsements from Nike.

What a shame. Vince Carter and Grant Hill both make more money that Jerry Rice did in his first 9 years combined.

Yeah but like you said they haven't really be contending since McGrady left the Raptors.

Expansion is very dangerous and needs to be done correctly or you will end up with horrible franchises that nobody likes and will never be good.

expansions are done not for the good of the league, but for the bank accounts of the current commissioner.

Tagliabue gets paid $8M / year.

What the fark does this guy do, exactly?
