So are you into graded cards or getting your cards graded?

If so, who do you use and why?

I hate grading, I think it's ruining the hobby, but yes I do get cards graded. It takes a $40 a can't sell and could turn it into a $1000 that everyone wants to buy from me. BGS is the best to get the most money for, but I think PSA is the most generous.

I like to buy vintage graded cards by PSA. The reasons being numerous,
#1 - I didnt have to pay the grading fees or have to have a membership
#2 - I know my card is authentic
#3 - I can collect the grade I want
#4 - PSA 7 and 8's in Vintage are really top notch IMO
#5 - There stackable
#6 - I hate beckett
#7 - PSA Rocks with vintage
#8 - Im tired of typing.....

lol
grading ruined the card business because it took regular cards and made them out of reach for kids to buy.......thats my opinion...i have three graded cards....2 auto's for the simple reason of proof they are real and a Hank Aaron for the same reason as auto's but i would rather put them in a hard case and save my money

etoppscardguy, after the case-cracking controversy with psa, i wouldnt deal with them if my life depended on it. i don't trust them. besides, i dealt with jimmy spence from psa/dna and the guy is... well i'm more dignified than to go on a tirade... but anyone who associates themselves with that scumbag doesn't get my vote.

Grading definitely upped the ante from card collecting to card investing. It costs quite a dime to get a card graded. The whole grading system, especially Beckett, seems to favor dealers who have many many cards they want to get graded.

I miss the days when I didn't care about the condition of the card and just wanted the card.

Awhile ago I even thought I was cool to be able to identify the year of any card from Topps between 1960 and 1983.

I use BGS for the most part. I'm still trying to put together a massive amount of good cards to send off, so I can get them done as inexpensively as possible. If you do use BGS, make sure you go through Ebay's link to them. You'll get a 10% discount. Also, I really like that they provide you with a hard, thick, slab, some details of why they graded your card the way they did, and online population reports. Overall, they're the best in the biz.

I do wish that the costs would come down. Maybe some of us in the NYC area would want to put together a shippment for BGS... so we can do it more cheaply?

I heard that and it really makes you rethink your position..
I do not send in cards to be graded myself but have been tempted as I own some really great conditioned oldies... I only hope that this is an isolated case but who really knows. I would find this hard to believe with vintage cards as a good collector can detect a fake and or a PSA 6 in a PSA 7 case in a flat second. PSA 7 and PSA 8 in vintage is a pretty easy spot also... 8's 9's and 10's you really got to know your stuff.. Bottom line, when I am buying a vintage graded cards I like to know who Im dealling with, like to see a great scan, and like to pay a fair price... If you stick by them rules I dont think you can get hurt.....

Now if your a submitter, thats a different story and I would be worried. How do you really know your getting the card back that you submitted? Im sorry, but I would have to stand there and supervise the whole deal as I wouldnt trust just anybody..

Some things are worth a risk, some things aren't. I agree, the whole submit via mail is a bit strange, and who knows if you're getting your cards back the way you sent them. I have some faith in Beckett because of the major public eye they're in to avoid screwing up. PSA is part of a publicly traded company, and if they messed up big, their investors would have a serious financial problem to deal with. Other than these two... all of the others could simply yell bankruptcy, and run. At least Beckett & PSA have a lot more to lose by cheating their customers.
