Will the NCAA look at this tape?

I mean the ref sizes him up, like he's coming down the line, then blatantly gives him the shoulder shiver??

Thats insane. I can see that Ref losing his job over something stupid like that.

why would a ref knowingly do that when he has dozens of cameras on him?

I was watching when it happened and I about laughed my butt off. I was thinking of the BW3 commercial too. I'd say the guy was trying to get into position to watch the play, but realized too late he was getting in the way and was just trying to protect himself...I thought it looked pretty bad when I saw it live, but watching that clip makes it look even more like he was playing LB.

I don't see how that wasn't intentional. It looks like he got in the runners way to make a tackle.

Trying to protect himself, your kidding right ??!! The guy is like zoned in on him and then as soon as he gets near, he lunges at him !

Yeah, you're right. Refs have now taken it upon themselves to keep the Gamecocks out of the end zone. He probably had money on the game and decided to help himself out a little.

He was trying to get in position to call the play, but he realized too late that he was in the way of the play. Once he saw he was in the way, he braced himself and stuck his shoulder out to avoid being ran over. You're telling me if a 6'2" 221lbs football player in pads is running right at you you're going to just stand there and let him knock you on your tail? He did more than he should have, but to imply he did that on purpose is ridiculous.

Come on now he took a step foward, if he was trying to protect himself human nature says step back not into the attack.

I don't know if you've heard the latest on this. I'm sure some of you have. It looks like it won't even be investigated. Apparently Steve Spurrier said that he thought the play was NOT intentional, that the ref was trying to protect himself. An official from the SEC also said that they haven't found anything wrong with the play. I can understand the whole "speed of the game" and everything about only having an instant to move, but there was clearly meaning and pupose behind it. He read that play better than LSU did. They claim he "acted appropriately"!! If he gets away with it, it'll be the biggest BS since the BCS!!

Not if you're already moving forward. Did you see the guy? He's pretty old, I'm sure he doesn't have cat-like reflexes. If he's already moving forward, it's pretty hard for him to stop and take a step back in a split second. That's a move a lot of RBs couldn't make.

I know what it looks like, but the question is why would he do it on purpose? Even if he had some motivation strong enough to make him try to influence the game beyond making some questionable calls, he was out in the open all by himself and lowered his shoulder into a runner in the open field....how obvious could you be? If he really was trying to influence the game, call a hold on that play and give them a 10 yard penalty.

I'm not saying he was or wasn't just saying it was fishy, and if you watch he takes a step back before he steps foward with his little 1970's forearm shiver. He didn't need to read and flow with the play like that he could have watched the play from where he was, maybe he used to play football and got caught up in the moment.

maybe he used to play football and got caught up in the moment.

Now there's a thought. Maybe it was a flashback and he forgot what uniform he was in for a minute. I could buy that!

Awesome - those new LSU uniforms look familiar though.

Are you seriously going to sit there and try to defend this guy ? I have no idea what he was thinking nor do any of us and we never will but I think it's clear that he was doing a lot more than just 'trying to protect himself'. He tracks the play the whole way all the while moving towards the ball carrier, he starts off and he's not even in the frame but he somehow ends up in the middle of the play, protecting himself. WHAT A JOKE ! And anyone can use the argument that he can't move fast enough but that's a load of BS because either way, why didn't he move backwards, hell if he just stood still he wouldn't even have touched the guy. My mother is over 50 years old and she can still jump backwards, this stuff is inexcusable.

I have to agree that the ref went w/ the forearm shiver and steped into it. There is no way that was an accident. If he was trying to protect himself why not back-up or use your hands to shield yourself from the blow. That wasn't a move to defend himself but to attack the player.

It looks pretty bad from that clip but if the QB can be taken down that easily the ref should be allowed to tackle him.

I dont see the big deal the linebacker nailed him right after the ref anyways

You're right...If I was a ref, I would risk my credibility and my job just because I don't like South Carolina. On a nationally televised game, I'm going to wait until I get the QB out by himself where everyone can see clearly and then I'm going to go after him. Makes complete sense!

Unless thugs had a gun to his wife and kids' heads and told him to make sure USC loses, there's absolutely no reason to do that and many, many reasons not to...and even then, he could have called holding and it would have worked better!

So what ? Does everything have to make sense in this world ? Are all the video's on America's Most Dumbest Criminals fake because the thieves are stupid enough to run in front of a camera with no mask ? Come on now.

I have to agree, if he was trying to protect himself he wouldn't be launching himself into the ball carrier. If this was a common occurence more videos like this would be out.

I give up...apparently refs are now taking it upon themselves to tackle QBs headed for the end zone just for fun. I guess I should start looking for the most implausible explanation to everything else in life.

So the ref only gets credited with the assist?
